Blox Fruits: How to Get the Adventurer’s Hat (Thieving Monkey Quest)

Everything needed to trigger the footprints on Jungle Island, beat the Thieving Monkey, and claim your Star.

Everything needed to trigger the footprints on Jungle Island, beat the Thieving Monkey, and claim your Star.

A monkey on Jungle Island has made off with the Adventurer’s hat, and getting it back is one of the three secret quests Update 30 added to the island. It is called The Thieving Monkey, it rewards secret levels that push you past the normal cap, and it is the only Jungle secret with a random spawn — which is why so many players wander the island for half an hour and find nothing.

Quick answer: Talk to the Adventurer on Jungle Island and pick the Rumor dialogue, then patrol the medium and large trees until glowing footprints appear at a trunk. Punch that tree with M1 until the Thieving Monkey (Lv. 14) drops out, kill it, pick up the hat from the ground, and hand it back to the Adventurer.

What the Adventurer’s Hat quest is worth

Island Secrets are First Sea quests that sit outside normal progression. Each one you finish grants 5 levels and raises your level cap by 5, so clearing all 40 across the 16 islands adds up to 200 secret levels. Every completed secret also awards a Star, and collecting all 40 Stars unlocks the teleporter inside the central building in Middle Town.

How to complete the Thieving Monkey quest on Jungle Island

Head to the wooden bridge in the middle of Jungle Island and speak to the Adventurer NPC. His menu lists the usual Monkeys, Gorillas and Gorilla King quests, plus a Rumor option at the bottom.
Pick Rumor and read what he says. He needs to tell you that a monkey stole his hat and is hiding in a tree somewhere. If he says anything else, the quest is not active for you yet.
Start circling the island and check the ground at the base of every medium and large tree. The thief’s hiding spot is not fixed, and the footprints can take a while to appear — expect to spend a stretch of time on the island before anything shows up.

Watch for glowing footprints in the grass leading up to a trunk, or an on-screen notice about suspicious steps under a tree. That marks the exact tree the monkey is in.
Attack that tree with your fighting style M1s. Fruit moves are not needed here — plain melee hits shake the trunk until the Thieving Monkey falls out.
Fight the monkey and drain its health bar. It is only level 14, so anything you are already using on Jungle Island will do the job.

The hat drops at the base of the tree once the monkey dies. Interact with it to pick it up. You should see the message You recovered the Adventurer’s hat! on screen.
Go back to the Adventurer and choose Return the hat. He takes it, you get a burst of EXP, and you should level up several times as the secret levels land.

How to confirm the secret quest actually registered

Two things tell you it worked. The hat pickup notification fires when you grab it off the ground, and the Adventurer’s dialogue changes to a completion turn-in once you bring it back. After that, the Star counts toward Jungle Island’s three-secret total.

Note: There is a known bug where the quest NPC hands over only 2 levels instead of 5. Keep talking to him until the remaining levels come through. If you leave the server before collecting them, they are gone for good.

Why the footprints won’t spawn

ProblemWhat to do
The Adventurer never mentions the stolen hatRe-select the Rumor option. The quest only opens once he brings up the missing hat.
Nothing appears after hitting treesOnly the tree with footprints under it hides the monkey. Hitting random trunks does nothing on its own.
You have been searching for a long timeThe spawn is on a timer with no fixed spot. Server-hopping is the fastest way to skip long waits on secrets like this.
Another player got there firstSome Island Secrets allow only one player per spawn, so you may need to wait for the next one or switch servers.
You are checking small treesThe monkey hides in medium and large trees only.

The hat is one of three Stars on the island, alongside the zipline repair and the Awakened Gorilla King fight. Clear all three and Jungle unlocks as a teleport destination from Middle Town, which makes it far less painful to come back later — and since the thief is the only one of the three gated behind a random spawn, it is worth starting the search while you knock out the other two.
