Middle Town is the hub island of the First Sea, and since Update 30 it also hides three Island Secrets. They are not marked on the map, two of them depend on timing rather than skill, and one of them can quietly eat an hour if you save it for last. Here is exactly what triggers each one.
Quick answer: Clear Early Access (talk to the developer NPC upstairs, grab the key, unlock the rear office door), Hidden Treasure (punch trees for the map, collect the pieces, dig up the chest, kill the skeletons), and Lookout Duty (answer the Experienced Captain’s four-round flag count correctly). Each one pays 5 levels and raises your level cap by 5.
Middle Town Island Secrets: names, NPCs, and start conditions
All three secrets start within about thirty seconds of walking distance from the fountain. The Experienced Captain stands by the overturned cart behind the mansion, and the Secrets Master sits upstairs in the central building — the same building that houses the island teleporter you unlock by three-starring other islands.
| Secret | Starts with | What gates it |
|---|---|---|
| Early Access | Janus, the developer NPC at the desk | He only appears at the desk at certain times |
| Lookout Duty | Experienced Captain, by the broken cart | The dialogue option is not always offered |
| Hidden Treasure | Trees around Middle Town (hint from the Secrets Master) | Nothing — you can start it immediately |

Order matters only in one direction. Because the developer NPC shows up on a timer, check his room every time you pass it and do the other two objectives while you wait. Players who leave Early Access for last are the ones who end up stuck on two stars.

Hidden Treasure: find the map, then dig up the chest

Note: you only need normal melee hits here. Skills that are still locked behind a mastery requirement won’t stop you from finishing the hunt.

Lookout Duty: counting flags in the four-round memory game
Rewards, the level cap, and the 2-level payout bug
Island Secrets in Blox Fruits exist to push you past the normal level cap. Each completed secret grants 5 levels and lifts the cap by 5. With 40 secrets across the First Sea, that’s 200 Secret Levels available in total.
Middle Town is the one exception to the teleport reward. Clearing all three secrets on any other island unlocks it as a fast-travel destination, and the teleporter itself lives in Middle Town’s central building.
There is one payout bug worth knowing about. Occasionally a quest NPC hands over 2 levels instead of 5. Keep talking to that NPC until the rest arrive — if you leave the server first, those levels are gone for good.
Why a Middle Town secret won’t complete
- The Captain keeps deferring you. Lookout Duty isn’t offered on every interaction. Hop servers or come back after finishing something else.
- The desk upstairs is empty. Janus spawns on a timer. Nothing you do in the room forces him to appear — rejoin a fresh server and check again.
- The rear door won’t open. You need the Rear Door Key from inside the yellow building, and you need Janus’s task active first.
- The treasure tree does nothing. Every map piece has to be collected before the final tree will produce the chest, and a Fighting Style must be equipped.
- The quest sits at 99 percent after looting. Skeletons are still alive somewhere nearby. Clear them, then talk to the Experienced Captain.
- Someone beat you to it. A few Island Secrets only allow one player to complete them per spawn, so a busy server can lock you out until the next cycle.
One last thing worth doing while you’re standing in the central building. During the final 10 minutes of each hour, the Secrets Master will tell you which boss awakens at the top of the next hour — useful for the awakened-boss secrets on Frozen Village, Marine Fortress, and the rest of the First Sea, since those only spawn on that schedule.
