Borderlands 4: How to Start FL4K and the Last Resort

Reach the Bones of Sanctuary fast travel point in Terminus Range to grab the quest and drop into Providence Island.

Reach the Bones of Sanctuary fast travel point in Terminus Range to grab the quest and drop into Providence Island.

FL4K and the Last Resort adds Providence Island to Borderlands 4, along with a new campaign, side missions, bosses, and fresh Pearlescent and Legendary loot. Getting in takes only a short trip once the content is installed, whether you load an existing Vault Hunter or begin a brand-new character.

Quick answer: Fast travel to Bones of Sanctuary in the far east of Terminus Range, interact with the box outside the ship to pick up the “FL4K and the Last Resort” quest, then board Sanctuary III and use the door to Providence Island to trigger the opening cutscene.

What you need before you can start

The Story Pack 2 content must be owned and fully installed before the quest appears. Check your platform download to confirm it finished, since the marker at Bones of Sanctuary will not show up otherwise.

The DLC arrived with the Version 1.10 update, which raised the maximum player level from 60 to 70 for everyone, even players who do not buy the pack. If you plan to jump straight into the new zone on a new character, you will need to be at least Level 13.

Start from an existing Vault Hunter

If you are continuing with a current character, everything begins at the fast travel station on the eastern edge of Terminus Range.

Open your map and fast travel to Bones of Sanctuary, found in the far east region of Terminus Range (also referred to as the Heart of the Mountain). This is the launch point for the whole expansion.

After you spawn, look for the small box sitting outside the ship at the marked area. Interacting with it plays a broadcast from FL4K and lets you pick up the “FL4K and the Last Resort” quest. Accept it and set it as your tracked mission.
Head inside the Sanctuary III ship and find the “Welcome Home” door that leads to Providence Island. Interact with it to begin.
The opening cutscene for Story Pack 2 plays, after which you interact with the valve to leave your escape pod and step onto Providence. From here the campaign is underway.

Note: On an in-progress playthrough, the starting mission “The Skag and the Robot” becomes available once you have finished the fourth main campaign mission, “A Lot to Process.” If you have not reached that point, complete it first.

Start fresh from the New Game menu

Returning and new players can skip ahead and drop straight into the DLC from the main menu instead of playing through the base campaign.

From the main menu, choose the “New Game” option.
Pick whether you want to start any of the DLC, which locks your Vault Hunter’s starting level at 13, or begin a New Game – Ultimate Vault Hunter run.
Enable Shared Progression so your gear and unlocks carry over.
Select your character, including the new Vault Hunter Loveless the Hacker, and load in. A directly created character can begin the expansion at Level 13 or as a Level 30 Loveless, then follow the same route to Bones of Sanctuary and the Providence Island door.

How to confirm the DLC started

You have entered the expansion correctly once the opening cutscene plays and you climb out of the escape pod using the valve on Providence Island. Seeing the new tropical jungle zone and having “FL4K and the Last Resort” as your active mission confirms it is running.

If the quest box never appears at Bones of Sanctuary, the most common cause is that the Story Pack 2 content is not fully installed, or the character does not yet meet the entry requirement. Confirm the download and, on an existing save, complete “A Lot to Process” to make the starting mission available.

How long the expansion takes and how many bosses

The main story runs about four hours. Clearing the side missions and every boss encounter pushes total playtime higher, and the exact number depends on the difficulty you choose to run.

GoalEstimated time
Main story onlyAround 4 hours
Full completion (story, side missions, all bosses)Around 8–10 hours
Total bosses21 (story bosses and minibosses combined)

Providence rewards the extra time with new gear, including two Pearlescent weapons and 18 Legendary items, plus ziplines for fast vertical travel across the jungle. Once you are through the door on Sanctuary III, the hunt for Mr. Chew and the fight against Tediore begins in earnest.
