Borderlands 4: Loveless Wyrm Leveling Build Guide

The Malignant Construct setup that clears mobs and elites at level 30 without needing specific legendary drops.

The Malignant Construct setup that clears mobs and elites at level 30 without needing specific legendary drops.

Loveless has three action skills, but only one of them carries a fresh character through the early levels without demanding a perfect weapon roll. That’s Malignant Construct, the Wyrm summon at the heart of the Irradiated Devourer tree. The Wyrm does its own damage, applies radiation on its own, and feeds a stack system that pumps up your gun damage while it fights.

Quick answer: Equip Malignant Construct, take enrag.exe as your capstone and Solid State Destruction as your augment, then put 5 points each into Corrupted Path, Drift Compatible, Status Update, IHATEYOU and Second Impact. Summon the Wyrm, tap the action skill key (F on PC) to teleport it into a pack for radiation damage, let it bank damage, then hold the key on an elite to trigger the berserk attach.

Skill setup: Irradiated Devourer tree at level 30

Malignant Construct summons the Wyrm for a duration, and summoning it grants Symbiosis stacks that decay over time. You regain stacks when the Wyrm kills something or through passives, so the whole tree is built around keeping the pet alive and active rather than around your gun.

At level 31 the base action skill card reads 116 melee damage, a breath attack at 116 per second over 5 seconds, 378 Executable damage on a 15-second Executable cooldown, and a 35-second skill cooldown. The two choices that change the build most are the capstone and the augment.

enrag.exe is an Executable Override. Holding the action skill sends the Wyrm completely berserk, latching onto a target for up to 7 seconds and dealing radiation melee damage until the enemy dies. The card lists 808 melee damage and 473 berserk swipe damage, on a 10-second Executable cooldown. The Wyrm loses health while berserk and ignores Function commands during the attack.

Solid State Destruction is the augment that makes the loop work. The Wyrm stores the damage it deals, and Executables consume that stored damage and release it as radiation damage. Function damage counts double toward the stored pool, which is why you keep teleporting the Wyrm into groups before you spend the Executable.

SkillPointsWhat it gives
Corrupted Path5/5+25% radiation damage, +30% irradiation chance, +4% bonus radiation damage per Symbiosis stack
Drift Compatible5/5+25% Wyrm critical hit chance, +3% critical hit damage per Symbiosis stack
Status Update5/5Bonus gun damage for 10 seconds when you apply radiation status effects (+40% on the card, up to 80%), plus +2.5% elemental effect chance per stack
IHATEYOU5/5757-damage homing radiation shurikens on radiation kills, with a nova that adds +57 per stack
Second Impact5/510% chance for shots dealing non-status radiation damage to spawn extra shurikens

Symbiosis caps at 25 stacks before you invest in stack-boosting skills, so Corrupted Path and Drift Compatible are both scaling off a number you can watch climb while the Wyrm is out.

Wyrm combat loop

Summon the Wyrm as soon as a fight starts. That grants your opening Symbiosis stacks and puts the pet in range to begin dealing tail whip damage on its own.
Tap the action skill key to use the Function. The Wyrm teleports to your target and detonates a radiation nova, and that Function damage counts double into the Solid State Destruction pool.
Shoot while the radiation is ticking. Every radiation status effect you apply refreshes Status Update’s gun damage bonus, and radiation kills start throwing homing shurikens from IHATEYOU.

Save the Executable for an elite or a boss. Hold the action skill key and the Wyrm goes berserk, attaches, and dumps the stored damage as radiation on top of its melee hits.

You can tell the loop is landing when the Executable burst is visibly larger after a run of Function teleports than it is when you fire it cold. If the Wyrm keeps dying before you reach the Executable, move points into Pure Fusion, which is the survivability option in this tree.

Critically Acclaimed or Overclock: pick based on what you farm

One 5-point choice changes depending on your leveling activity. If you are running drill sites, take Critically Acclaimed, which has a 50% chance to refund 15% of your action skill cooldown on critical kills. That keeps the Wyrm out almost permanently against packed trash waves.

If you are farming Vial Bounties instead, the points go into Overclock for increased action skill damage and duration. Single tough targets don’t hand you the stream of critical kills that Critically Acclaimed needs.

Gear for the Loveless leveling build

None of this is hard to get, which is the point. The build’s damage comes from the tree, so the gear only has to cover clear speed and uptime.

ItemTypeWhy it works / where it drops
Barrage Emollient FireworksArmor shieldSpawns fireworks on kills; 1,769 ward, 349 recharge rate, 1.5 delay, 26% resist with +15% resist
Ricocheting Captured DarkbeastSMG135×2 damage at 11.1 rounds per second with a 30-round magazine; dropped by Voraxis in Coastal Bonescape
Panicking HellwalkerShotgun292×10 damage, 2-round magazine, +20% critical hit damage; dropped by Meathead Riders in Cuspid Climb

Both weapon drops sit in ordinary open-world content, so you can pick them up while clearing side missions rather than setting up a dedicated farm.

Specialization and class mod

In the Daredevil specialization tree, Now With Caffeine cuts action skill cooldown, which directly raises how often the Wyrm is on the field. For the class mod, the Hacker mod named Irradiated Devourer gives the Wyrm a chance to devour enemies for percentage-based health damage, and its rolls include +19% reload speed and +17% action skill cooldown rate.

Where the later skill points go

Once you are past the level 30 core, Fusion Friends-y is the first upgrade worth chasing. It raises the Symbiosis cap by 15, adds +24% stacking chance, and grants +3 stacks at a time, which scales every per-stack bonus in the tree at once.

The utility pick is UUDDLRLRBAS, which instantly revives the Wyrm. On a build where every damage source runs through the pet, having it back immediately matters more than another flat percentage.

Loveless is the Hacker class, and she shares her kit with the digital virus that becomes the Wyrm. That framing is worth remembering while you level, because the fastest fights are the ones where you let the Wyrm do the opening work, keep radiation on the screen, and hold the Executable until something with a health bar worth deleting walks in.
