The index in Build A Soccer Squad is the running record of every footballer you have pulled from more than 1,000 collectible cards spanning 1970 to the present. Completing it is not about grabbing every player at once. It works team by team, and finishing a full team collection is what unlocks that squad’s 99 OVR captain.

Quick answer: Pick one 2026 team, then pull every player that belongs to it using packs, the Hourly Shop, and quest rewards. When the last card for that team lands in your index, the game awards that team’s 99 OVR captain.

What completing a team in the index does

Captains are the reward for collection progress, not for spending the most currency overall. Complete an entire eligible 2026 squad and the game hands you that team’s 99 OVR captain card. Spreading rerolls across many teams at once delays every unlock, so the fastest route is to commit to a single roster and finish it before moving on.

A completed captain also raises your squad’s overall rating. That matters because Cup Mode opens once your squad reaches 93 OVR, and higher-rated squads carry you toward the 100+ OVR territory where Limitbreaker cards live.

Currency you need before you start

Two currencies drive index progress. Rerolls re-open packs so you can keep pulling new players, and Refreshes reshuffle the shop so fresh cards rotate in. Both come from quests, codes, and daily activity. Building a small stockpile before you chase a team prevents you from stalling halfway through a collection.

Steps to complete a team in the index

Choose one 2026 team to complete first and check which of its players you already own in your index. Keeping every card that belongs to that team stops you from rerolling away progress you have already made.

Redeem active codes for free Rerolls and Refreshes before you spend anything. CONSOLE grants 25 Rerolls plus 25 Refreshes, LIMITBREAKER grants 25 of each, and DOUBLE grants 20 of each through the in-game Codes menu.
Open the quest list and let the 8-hour timers run. These quests pay out Rerolls and Refreshes over time, so starting them early gives you passive currency while you play.
Spend Refreshes on the Hourly Shop, where 100+ OVR Prime players rotate in. Watch that rotation for the specific cards your chosen team still needs rather than buying whoever appears.

Use Rerolls to open packs and fill the remaining gaps in that team. Keep rolling until every player belonging to the team is logged in your index, and the captain unlock triggers automatically on the final card.

How to know a team is complete

When the final missing player enters your index, the game confirms the collection and delivers that team’s 99 OVR captain. The captain then appears among your cards and can slot into your active squad, lifting your overall rating.

If the captain does not appear, the most common reason is that the team is not fully collected yet. Double-check that every listed player for that specific team is present, since a single missing card leaves the collection incomplete. Spreading currency across several teams is the other frequent cause of a stalled index, because no single team reaches 100 percent.

Speeding up index progress

Save your Rerolls and Refreshes for the Hourly Shop rotations that carry Prime players instead of spending them in bursts. Prime cards are high-value pulls, and timing your Refreshes to catch them cuts down the number of pack pulls you need. The Auto Reveal feature flips your pulled cards automatically, which makes bulk pack opening far quicker when you are grinding a collection.

Once a captain is unlocked and your squad clears 93 OVR, Cup Mode becomes a follow-up goal. Winning cups awards 105+ OVR Cup Players, which then feed into the Limitbreaker cards that push past the normal OVR ceiling. Finishing your first team collection is the entry point that opens all of that.
