Reaching the message “You fell into Death’s trap” in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse can look like the game has ended on you. Credits roll, and you land back on the title screen. It is not a loss. This moment is a false ending built into the story, and the game is designed for you to continue straight afterward.
Quick answer: This is not a game over. Let the credits finish; when the title screen loads, select RESUME to wake beside a mirror and continue. A fresh character skin becomes available. To avoid the trap altogether, equip Soul Harvest before you use the clock on the Clock Tower Bridge.

Where Death’s trap triggers in the Clock Tower
The sequence starts in the Clock Tower. Clear the Upper Gallery, followed by The Way of the Fist, then emerge onto the Clock Tower Bridge, where a massive clock structure is engulfed in green flames. Leon, Medusa and Joan discuss Isaac and Dracula, who are still ahead.
Use INTERACT (R1, PC: E) on the clockwork glowing green. The face turns, splitting open a shadowy gateway edged in thorns. Leon suspects a snare, while the others encourage Rose to go ahead.

Beyond the gateway, Rose enters a corridor lined with red stained-glass windows. A boss bar marked “???” appears at the top; Rose sees that Isaac is missing and her companions have fallen silent. The route continues into the throne room, where Dracula sits on his throne and Rose immediately strikes him down.

Death steps in and explains that he engineered the snare. While Rose was distracted inside, her father’s blood returned power to Lord Dracula. The Belmont’s fall trophy appears, followed by a brief defeat message on screen.
You fell into Death’s trap. The curse devoured your soul… and your very existence is lost to oblivion.
After the credits play, the title screen returns with the options RESUME, SAVES, SETTINGS and CREDITS.
Can you avoid Death’s trap?
Yes. Death’s snare is activated by the green clock glowing on the Clock Tower Bridge. If you interact with it while Soul Harvest is unequipped, Rose is drawn through the illusory gateway into the throne room trap, causing the bad ending and awarding the “Belmont’s fall” achievement. Equip Soul Harvest before interacting to disable the snare and unlock the route to the genuine Isaac battle in the Heart of the Clock.
Soul Harvest is the spell of The Shadow Arcana, which Rose earns for defeating Death in the Transept of Notre-Dame. On the usual route you reach the bridge before that fight, so most players fall into the trap the first time, and that is fine. After the credits, choose Resume. Play picks back up at the Mirror of Life in Mechanic’s Ascent with the Ferryman, and you can return to the clock later with Soul Harvest equipped.
A clue in Mechanic’s Ascent points the way. Titled “Isaac waits in the Clock Tower.”, it reads: “The Zealot waits behind the trap, Where only Death may go. A victory there he hopes will give Redemption from his woe.” The Zealot is Isaac’s card, and “Death” points to Death’s spell. If you want the “Belmont’s fall” achievement, you need to see the bad ending, so use the clock without Soul Harvest equipped at least once.
How to continue after the credits

Seeing the Ferryman’s second-chance line and the skin unlock confirms you have come out the other side correctly. The false ending is behind you, and the run carries on as normal.
