Six Secret Hideouts sit tucked beneath ordinary-looking storefronts across Control Resonant’s Manhattan. Each one hides behind an environmental puzzle, and cracking it opens a wall marked with a spray-painted keyhole logo that leads down to a basement holding a Health Upgrade point and files on a shadow group watching the FBC. The catch is that a hideout’s question-mark marker only appears on your map once Dylan Faden gets close, so it is easy to walk straight past one.
Quick answer: Each zone has one Secret Hideout, with Underpass as the exception, making six in all. Solve the puzzle in every shop to access its basement; finding all six awards the Backroom Espionage trophy/achievement.
| Zone | Location | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Downtown | Atlantis Cafe | Activate appliances in order |
| Central | Wear’Em & Wash’Em | Set washers by the note’s pattern |
| Evacuation Zone | Konstig | Light four specific paintings |
| West Incursion Zone | Urban Fresh Mart | Register code 1213 |
| The Park | Atlantis Cafe | Register code BDAC |
| Unknown | Pulse Fitness | Follow the workout routine |
Cash register code hideouts
At two hideouts, a cash register secures the basement. Clues inside the shop reveal the code; enter it to uncover the entrance next to the counter.

West Incursion Zone — Urban Fresh Mart
From the West Incursion Zone Fast Travel point, head south along the street until you reach the Urban Fresh Mart. Interact with the Thirst Station soda dispenser and watch its lights blink in the order 3121. The nearby note tells you to reverse that sequence, which gives the register code 1213. Enter it at the till to open the hidden door, then take the stairs down for the Health Upgrade.

The Park — Atlantis Cafe
Another Atlantis Cafe is located in southeast The Park, close to the Research Site. Check the weekly table-reservation note to learn the table sequence, then pair each table’s drink leaflet with its menu letter.
- Table 1 — Iced Coffee — B
- Table 5 — The Spiciest Chai — D
- Table 4 — Espresso — A
- Table 2 — Caramel Latte — C
That produces the register code BDAC. Enter it at the counter terminal to reveal the doorway, then head downstairs for the Health Upgrade and the intel stored there.

At two additional hideouts, you must activate items in a specific sequence. Begin by reading the shop note, which starts the puzzle and gives you the order.
Downtown — Atlantis Cafe
The Downtown hideout lies near the Oldest House. Spot the electronic road-closed sign marking a detour and use Shift to get above it; the Atlantis Cafe is just ahead. You need the Shift traversal ability for this route, which you obtain at the West Incursion Zone Fault, so return later if you don’t have it yet.

Inside, flip the electrical breaker box first to power the room. The note explains that the owner switches appliances on from smallest to largest, and a radio sits alone on the far wall where it is easy to miss. Activate everything in this exact order:
- Radio (on the western wall)
- Coffee Machine (on the red counter)
- White Coffee Brewer (larger, on the back cabinet)
- Soda Machine
- Microwave
- Refrigerator
Finish the sequence and the keyhole-marked door opens. Descend to grab the Health Upgrade and the files.
Unknown — Pulse Fitness gym
The last hideout is in Pulse Fitness, on the lower level near the middle of Unknown. In the locker room, a note gives the workout sequence for solving the puzzle. Use the equipment in this order:
- Set the Treadmill to 0.5 MPH
- Set the Cycling Machine to 15 MPH
- Interact with the Limu Vending Machine
- Set the Treadmill to 15 MPH
- Set the Cycling Machine to 0.5 MPH
Finish the routine to open the hallway door. If you’ve completed the other five, Backroom Espionage unlocks here. Go down the hallway to collect the final Health Upgrade.
Pattern hideouts
The last two hideouts hinge on reading a layout correctly, one with washing machines and one with gallery lighting.
Central — Wear’Em & Wash’Em laundromat
The Central hideout is in the Wear’Em & Wash’Em laundromat, close to East Park Station and a little south of Field Office Station; its blue fascia makes it easy to spot. To get inside, remove the Hiss Barrier outside by tracing the tendrils to all three Hiss Nodes and destroying them.

Inside, a note lists rows of 0s and 1s. Each line matches a row of washing machines counted from the left as you enter, where 1 means run the machine and 0 means leave it off. Face the machines, work each row left to right, and set them like this:
- Row 1 — middle machine on
- Row 2 — the two middle machines on
- Row 3 — first and last machines on
- Rows 4 and 5 — all machines off
- Row 6 — first machine on
With the right machines running, the back-room door unlocks. Head downstairs to the bunker for your Health Upgrade.
Evacuation Zone — Konstig art gallery
The Evacuation Zone hideout is inside the Konstig gallery near the center of the zone, close to a Fast Travel point and just south of the Main Street door. A note at reception names that month’s four paintings — Journey, Windows, Thunder, and Tides — and you need to aim the spotlights onto those exact pieces. Identify each one by position and subject:
- Journey — the middle painting showing a road leading to a tree
- Windows — the first painting with twisting, looped branches
- Thunder — shown in the first painting, this scene has a V-shaped tree in a field without cover
- Tides — the central painting depicts a tree lying in the water
Light those four and leave the rest dark, and the hidden entrance in the back corner opens. Descend into the maintenance level to claim the reward.
Rewards and confirming Backroom Espionage
Every hideout basement holds one permanent Health Upgrade point along with lore files. Collecting three Health Upgrade points raises Dylan’s maximum health and unlocks the Core Competency trophy, which makes both the early hours and the later Resonant fights noticeably easier.

Backroom Espionage requires visiting and solving all six hideouts. You know a puzzle worked when the keyhole-marked wall slides open and reveals the staircase down, and the trophy itself pops the moment you clear the final one. If you are missing a location and it is not showing on your map, comb that zone more closely on foot, since the question-mark marker only appears once Dylan is standing near the hideout.
