Control Resonant: How to Find the Alan Wake Easter Egg

Alan Wake makes a hidden appearance in Control Resonant, tucked away inside a corrupted apartment in the Evacuation Zone. It is easy to walk past, and reaching it depends on how far you have progressed with Dylan’s traversal abilities. Once you interact with the right television, the writer delivers a short monologue and you keep a recording for your Archives.

Quick answer: In the Evacuation Zone, climb to the rooftop Altered Camera on the road south of Railyard Street Station, head down two floors into the Dark Place apartment, and interact with the buzzing TV.

What you need before you go

The rooftop route is far easier with a traversal ability, but it is not strictly mandatory. Keep the following in mind before heading out.

Access to the Evacuation Zone, specifically the area around Railyard Street Station.
Use Dylan’s Reach skill, available after completing the Subway Fault mission, to reach the target rooftop quickly.
No Reach yet? You can still climb up manually through a nearby building instead.

How to reach the Alan Wake apartment

Go to the Evacuation Zone’s northern area and find Railyard Street Station at the junction. Then take the road south.

Find the building with a shop marked Urban Fresh. The rooftop Altered Camera is there; use Reach to go straight up to the roof.

Without Reach, circle around until you spot a yellow building covered in Mold overgrowth. Enter it, take the stairs to its roof, then jump east across the rooftops until you land on the correct building.

Approach the camera on the roof. Its paranatural effect freezes Dylan in place for a moment. Wait until you regain control rather than leaving the area.

Go through the doorway the camera had obstructed, then descend two floors by the stairs. Find an apartment with its door partly open, a red carpet inside, and black material from the Dark Place spread around the entrance. A blinking lamp and blood on the nearby walls help identify it.

Go inside and follow the dark hallway toward the light at its end. It leads to a room with a static-filled TV. Interact with the screen to trigger the Easter egg.

How to confirm you unlocked it

When you activate the screen, a recording called The Master of Many Worlds is added to your Archives and Alan Wake begins speaking through the TV. That combination confirms the Easter egg triggered correctly.

To rewatch it later, open your Archives, scroll to the end of the collection, and find the recording under the Nightwatchman tab. Its log entry describes a dreamlike glimpse of a nightwatchman and his partner on their rounds.

What the Alan Wake broadcast shows

The cutscene opens on two men walking through the dark with a flashlight. One of them is revealed as Alan Wake, who delivers a monologue touching on his lack of sleep and the darkness around him. Accompanying him is Alex Casey, the detective players will recognize from Alan Wake 2.

A few jump scares interrupt the monologue before the scene shifts to Wake and Casey dancing, which brings the sequence to a close. The apartment itself resembles the twisted otherworldly version of Wake’s home from the Dark Place, and the recording’s language hints that the Dark Place may be pushing into the corruption spreading through Manhattan.

A second, smaller Alan Wake reference

There is one more nod later on. After finishing the game and gaining access to Dylan’s apartment during the Epilogue, you can pick up a postcard from a shelf called Season’s Greetings. It shows Ahti the Janitor posing in front of an Oceanview Hotel and Casino sign, a location that recurs across both the Control and Alan Wake games.
