Control Resonant: How to Restore the Power in the Underpass

The Recursions and Iterations objective hinges on carrying three electrical charges back to one room of dead Power Cores.

The Underpass is where Control Resonant stops holding your hand. Partway through the Recursions and Iterations main quest, the lights go out, Ayad tells you the power is down, and the objective that follows drops you into a maze of identical service rooms with a charge that drains while you run. The layout is doing most of the work to confuse you, so the fix is to stop exploring and start reading the floor.

Quick answer: Follow the yellow wires to the room holding four Power Cores, then carry a charge from three separate active Cores back into that same room, one trip at a time, using the yellow tape as your route.

Where the Restore the Power objective begins

Recursions and Iterations sends Dylan below the sinkhole to find the rest of the team, which puts you in the Underpass. You search the Research Site, speak with Grist, and pick up the Track the Time Fluctuations objective. Ayad is waiting nearby, and he is the one who flags the outage and mentions the tape running across the ground.

That tape is the entire puzzle. Ignore it for a moment, though, because your first job is finding the destination rather than the sources.

How the Power Core charge works here

Follow the yellow wires and they lead to a small room containing four Power Cores. Three of them are dead. Three other Cores elsewhere in the Underpass are still active, and your task is to move a charge out of each one and into that room. The charge is temporary, which is what makes a straightforward errand feel tight in a space this confusing.

Three visual cues carry all the information you need:

  • Yellow wires point to the delivery room with the four Power Cores.
  • Yellow tape on the floor marks each route out to an active Core.
  • Reach reshapes parts of the environment so a tape route can be completed.

Every charge goes back to the room the wires lead to. Dropping one into a Core in any other room wastes the trip.

Restore the power in the Underpass: Full route

Trace the yellow wires from Ayad’s position to the service room holding the four Power Cores. Note where the three dead ones sit so you can hit them quickly later, and treat this room as your only drop-off point for the rest of the objective.
Pick a single strip of yellow tape and follow it away from that room. Each strip ends at a smaller chamber with one active Power Core. Work one strip at a time instead of trying to scout the whole area first.
Take the charge from the active Core, then immediately retrace the exact path you walked in on. The route you already know is faster than any shortcut you might guess at while the charge is ticking down.

Use Reach where a route is blocked. It shifts the surrounding geometry, so the space will look different on the way back than it did on the way in. Plan the return line before you grab the charge and the altered layout stops being a problem.
Deposit the charge into one of the dead Power Cores in the wire room. Then repeat the same loop for the remaining two tape strips until all four Cores in that room are live.

Not every run is flat. At least one route climbs through a tall shaft with platforms, so expect vertical movement and give yourself a clean line up before you are holding a charge.

How to confirm the power is back on

The moment the last dead Core takes a charge, the puzzle closes out and the quest log changes. You will see a Quest Updated prompt and the new objective reads Return to Ayad. If that line has not appeared, one of the Cores in the wire room is still unpowered and another tape route is waiting.

What comes after the Underpass power puzzle

Head back to Ayad and the quest moves on to inspecting time anomalies at the other research sites. The rest of Recursions and Iterations is much more direct, with a handful of enemy fights along the way and probes to place. Once the final probe is down, the quest wraps up and hands you the Prime Candidate Restraint outfit along with a Living Shard.
