The West Incursion Zone Resonant is one of the first Resonant quests in Control Resonant, and it doubles as the moment Dylan gains the Shift movement ability. You will travel to the West Incursion Zone, receive Shift from the Fault, follow Jesse’s trail toward the Theater, and finish with a fight against the Dancer.

Quick answer: Reach the West Incursion Zone checkpoint west of the Field Office, complete the Incursion Fault to unlock Shift, use it to reach the Theater, and defeat the Dancer to clear the quest.

How to start the West Incursion Zone Resonant quest

The quest becomes available during Welcome to Manhattan, after you speak with Zoe at the Watchtower and report the patterned spotlights. Wrap up the mission you are on, then head to the West Incursion Zone checkpoint, which sits to the west of the Field Office.

Reach the West Incursion Zone and find the Fault

Defeat the enemies around the checkpoint, then board the lift. After it reaches the upper level, continue ahead and follow the West Incursion Zone signboards to the blue door. Let it open before going outside into the zone.
The objective marker leads to the Theater, though the straight route is impassable. Travel north, then use the vertical bus to leap forward. Continue until the road ends and there is no route onward.

Go back to the previous spot and continue west until you hear Jesse’s voice. This triggers the Incursion Fault quest and points you toward the Parking Garage.

Find the Parking Garage key

Cross onto the western building’s rooftop and head toward the objective marker. On the way, activate the mapping Pylon to make getting around easier.
Enter the building to the south called House of Mirrors. Loot what you can, then hit the Power Core to take the Charge. Carry it outside and move west to a second Power Core to transfer it, which powers a nearby lift. Ride it to the upper section.
The Parking Garage requires a key. Since the Wear’em & Washem shop’s front entrance is blocked, go through the adjacent alley. Maneuver past the ground spikes and enter via the rear door.
Retrieve the Parking Garage key from the suspended corpse. Go back to the garage entrance and unlock it with the key. Ride the elevator upward, head south until Jesse’s silhouette appears, then drop through the opening to the garage’s lowest level and trigger the Incursion Fault.

The Incursion Fault: Unlock Shift and find the televisions

Once you reach the lower level, jump over to the eastern area and interact with the television. In the sequence that follows, navigate across the gaps until you reach Jesse; speak with her to gain the Shift ability. Shift lets Dylan align with gravity, allowing him to run along walls and vertical streets.

From here you use Shift constantly to realign gravity at the edge of each street, so keep the ability button ready as you climb through the sequence.

Television #1

Approach the vertical street ahead and use Shift so you line up with it. Run all the way to the end, then Shift once more to restore your alignment. Turn onto the street on the right and follow it to the first television; interact with it to unlock the next segment.

Television #2

Behind the television, enter the street and keep to the right. Leap over the gap to the street ahead, then turn right to reach the next street. Follow the left-hand street to its end, Shift across to the opposite side, then jump and Shift upward to the street above. The second television sits at the far end.

Television #3

Leap into the next section and use the street on the right. Shift while moving left to reach the third television.

Television #4

Move forward through the construction site and climb toward the upper section. Double-jump and Shift up to the street above, jump the gap, and take the left street higher. Keep going up, double-jump to the street ahead, and Shift again. Move to its edge, cross to the other side, and interact with the final television. The cutscenes that follow complete the Incursion Fault.

Climb out of the Parking Garage

Take the street behind the television and keep moving upward. Use Shift to work your way toward the top, following the Exit signs through each section. Along the route you will pass a jukebox holding a Health Upgrade point, so grab it before continuing.

Use the northern street, then turn onto the one on the left marked Exit. Advance, defeat the enemies in your way, and trace the Exit line upward to the top and out of the garage.

Reach the Theater through the Subway Station

Return to the earlier dead end where the road ran out. Use Shift to move quickly. At the edge, jump to the section on the left, then jump and Shift up to the section above. Climb higher and, at the edge, jump across to the opposite rooftop.
Follow the right-hand street until you reach a checkpoint. Use Shift to reach the platform, then repeat it to move onto the street on the right. Continue ahead, jump across the gap, and climb via the street in front of you. From the right side, make your way toward the Empire Cinema.
The Subway Station entrance is directly ahead of the cinema. Go downward, claim the Health Upgrade point inside the shop, and proceed north until you reach the exit. Once outside, use the street on the right to get to the higher street.
Turn right to find a blood mural, then head toward the Theater. Before you go inside, upgrade and adjust your build, because the Dancer is waiting.

How to beat the Dancer

The Dancer relies on relentless melee combos rather than projectiles, so the fight is built around Perfect Dodge. Stay patient, read her rhythm, and punish the gaps between her strings. If the pacing is too tough, Assist Mode lets you adjust the difficulty.

  • Back away when she starts her spinning combo, since chaining Perfect Dodges through it is risky.
  • Land your own combos in the interval between her attacks.
  • Each phase allows you to heal a maximum of three times.
  • In phase two, watch for long-range attacks. When she moves overhead, she throws humans at you.
  • When she launches projectiles from above, stay off the red markings on the ground.

After she falls, you can claim one of her two combat abilities, Ground Slam or Push. Push is the more flexible pick and works well with almost any build. Exit through the gap to finish the quest.

Defeating the Dancer triggers a Resonant Cycle, which revives every enemy you have killed and returns them slightly stronger. Gather some Health and Power Upgrade points before moving on.

Once you step out of the gap and the Resonant Cycle cutscene plays, the quest is marked complete and Shift is permanently yours. With that ability in hand, tackling The Central Resonant next is a strong move, since the reward there helps a lot when you eventually deal with the Mold in The Park.
