Being a smartphone focused video sharing platform, IGTV is entirely different from YouTube, FaceBook, and other similar services. If you’re a professional and looking to upload quality videos to IGTV, you need to do certain things differently for IGTV.

IGTV only supports vertical videos. It is a considerable change for creators who have just mastered recording in landscape formats until now. Recording vertical videos can be tricky initially because it significantly limits the field of view.

Also, it’s essential that you focus on the aspect ratio, resolution, and size of the videos for IGTV that you record vertically on your iPhone or Android device. The correct resolution for IGTV videos is something that fits in the 4:5 or 9:16 aspect ratio.

IGTV resolution guide (width x height)

9:16 ASPECT RATIO
  • 4K: 2160 x 3840
  • Full HD: 1080 x 1920
  • HD: 720 x 1280
4:5 ASPECT RATIO
  • 4K: 2160 x 2700
  • Full HD: 1080 x 1350
  • HD: 720 x 900

As of now, you cannot choose to record in 4:5 ratio in the stock camera app for iPhone or Android devices. We aren’t aware of any third-party apps either which have an option to record videos in 4:5 ratio. Hopefully, if IGTV gains popularity and vertical videos become a thing, we may see support for 4:5 in the stock and third-party camera apps very soon.
