Unlike YouTube, IGTV is built around the needs of smartphone users primarily. The service even displays videos in vertical format only because that’s how we hold our smartphones. The IGTV video requirements are also optimized for smartphone users.

The maximum file size for a video which is 15 seconds to 10 minutes long is 650MB. If you’re an average Instagram user with a few hundred followers, you can only upload videos up to 10 minutes long, and 650MB is the maximum video size IGTV will accept on your account.

For larger Instagram accounts, the IGTV video size limit is different. Popular accounts can post a video on IGTV of up to 60 minutes in length. The maximum file size for 60 minutes videos on IGTV is 5.4GB.

Additionally, IGTV displays videos with a minimum aspect ratio of 4:5 and maximum of 9:16. If you upload landscape videos to IGTV, they will be cropped to fit into these vertical aspect ratios.

Tip: If you want to upload landscape videos to IGTV with background blur to fit in a vertical frame, we did a detailed post how to do that on an iPhone. Check it out at the link below:
