Dead by Daylight: How to Play Haunted by Daylight 2026

Void Energy sources, Portal rules, Void Crystal and Captured Haunt costs, and Void Haunts for Survivors and Killers.

Dead by Daylight’s 2026 Haunted by Daylight event runs from 13 October through 3 November 2026. There’s no separate Void Realm this year; all event activity takes place on the regular Trial map. Void Energy, Void Portals, Void Haunts and the Void Crystal appear alongside standard Generators and hooks. The event revolves around one resource, Void Energy, and the ways each role can use it.

Quick answer: Collect up to 8 Void Energy per Trial. Survivors spend 4 for a smoke cloud or 8 for a remote Generator repair. Killers spend 4 for a Captured Haunt shot or a Portal ambush, or 1 for faster breaks.

Haunted by Daylight 2026 event window and queue

The 2026 event opened on 13 October, with 3 November 2026 set as its final day. Behaviour hasn’t announced a precise closing time, so don’t assume you can play through the entire last evening. Event mechanics are available only in Haunted by Daylight Trials. Select the event mode from the main menu; the map’s strong orange-and-purple cast and the Void Energy meter on your HUD show you’re in the correct queue.

The old crafting step is gone. Survivors no longer build event tools in the Void. Every Survivor now starts the Trial with a Void Crystal already equipped, and Killers can use their abilities as soon as they have the energy.

How to collect Void Energy as Survivor or Killer

Both roles share the same cap of 8 Void Energy. Each role fills its meter through different actions, but Void Pumpkins work for both sides.

ActionSurvivorKiller
Destroy Void PumpkinsYesYes
Repair GeneratorsYesNo
Stun or blind the KillerYesNo
Channel an open Void PortalYes (large amount)No
Down a SurvivorNoYes
Hook a SurvivorNoYes
Hit a roaming Void HauntNoYes

Survivors get a second payoff from pumpkins. Kicking a Void Pumpkin also grants a short 15% Haste boost, so a pumpkin near a chase is worth hitting even if your meter is already full.

Void Portals: Opening, teleporting, and channeling

Six Void Rifts spawn at the start of every Trial. Opening a Rift turns it into a Void Portal that moves you to another spot on the same map instead of into a separate dimension. The rules are simple, and they work for both sides:

  • Two Portals are open as soon as the Trial begins.
  • The other four are closed and have to be opened with Void Energy.
  • Survivors and Killers can both teleport freely between open Portals.
  • Survivors can channel an open Portal to gain a large amount of Void Energy.
  • Killers can spend Void Energy to teleport to a Portal where a Survivor is channeling.

Channeling a Portal is the fastest way for a Survivor to fill the meter, but it also flags you as a target. A Killer with 4 energy can appear right next to you mid-channel.

Because both roles share the Portal network, treat it as part of the map layout rather than a safe zone. As Survivor, a Portal can get you out of a losing chase or move you toward an untouched Generator. As Killer, it cuts down walking time between objectives.

Survivor Void Crystal abilities

The Void Crystal does not take up your regular Item slot, so you can still bring a flashlight or medkit. As your meter fills, the Crystal unlocks two abilities.

AbilityCostEffect
Void Vanish (Fog Cloud)4 Void EnergySmoke cloud that blocks vision and sound
Void Crystal Repairing8 Void Energy0.8 charges/s for up to 30 seconds

Void Vanish drops a large cloud around you that hides sight and sound and suppresses Scratch Marks near its center. It’s a 4-energy escape button, and once its cooldown ends you can use it again.

How to repair a Generator remotely with the Void Crystal

Fill your meter to the full 8 Void Energy. A remote repair spends every point, so you’ll have nothing left for Void Vanish afterward.
Go to an incomplete Generator that is not regressing. The Crystal can’t be placed on a Generator the Killer has kicked into regression.
Set the Crystal on a Generator. It repairs itself at 0.8 charges each second for a maximum of 30 seconds while you move elsewhere.
Wait for the Crystal to come back. It returns to you when the repair cycle finishes or when the Killer destroys it. When the Crystal icon reappears on your HUD, you can collect energy again.

Remote repairs come with real tradeoffs while the Crystal is deployed:

  • Nobody can manually repair that Generator until the effect ends.
  • You can’t gain any more Void Energy.
  • You can’t use the Crystal for anything else.
  • The Killer can break the Crystal by damaging the Generator, which ends the repair early.

Players report that a Crystal-powered Generator keeps repairing through gen-block perks and resists Hex: Ruin. Behaviour has not confirmed this, and results vary between Trials. As Killer, damaging the Generator is the one confirmed way to stop the repair.

Killer Void abilities and Captured Haunts

Killers get three ways to spend Void Energy. Each needs enough energy in the meter before it can be used.

AbilityCostEffect
Captured Haunt4 Void EnergyProjectile that damages a Survivor
Portal ambush4 Void EnergyTeleport to a channeling Survivor
Empowered Break1 Void Energy+30% speed on break actions

A Captured Haunt flies at a Survivor and injures them on impact. The hit also makes them scream and interrupts whatever they were doing, which makes it useful for knocking someone off a Generator or a heal. After you fire it, there’s a short window where you can’t use your basic attack, so you can’t follow a Haunt hit with an instant second hit for a down.

Empowered Break lets you damage Generators and use basic breaks on Pallets and Breakable Walls with a 30% speed boost. Each use costs 1 energy, making it the cheapest way to turn spare energy into pressure.

Void Haunts: What they do to Survivors

Four Void Haunts spawn at the start of each Trial and roam the map looking for Survivors. When a Haunt spots you, it dashes at you. A hit makes you scream and applies Hindered. After each dash, the Haunt respawns somewhere else on the map, so a route that was clear one minute can be dangerous the next.

For Killers, Haunts are a source of income. Hitting one fills the Void Energy meter, which makes Haunts a fallback when there isn’t a Survivor nearby to down or hook.

Haunted by Daylight event items and the Arcane Dousing Rod

Several Halloween-only items return to the Bloodweb for the event window. They’re optional, but they can shape a loadout.

ItemTypeKey detail
All Hallows’ Eve LunchboxMedkit24 charges, faster healing of others
Will O’ WispFlashlight8 seconds of use
Broken BulbAdd-onEvent add-on
Refined SerumAdd-onEvent add-on
Blight SerumAdd-onEvent add-on
Arcane Dousing RodOffering+100% Bloodpoints on event actions

The Lunchbox heals other Survivors faster and unlocks self-healing at reduced speed and efficiency, but it also makes you considerably easier to see. The Arcane Dousing Rod only works in the Haunted by Daylight queue, so burn it in event Trials rather than regular matches.

Event play also feeds the reward track. Haunted by Daylight quests pay out Dark Trinkets, the temporary currency for event cosmetics, and completing enough quests unlocks new outfits for The Hillbilly and Shane Wiigwaas. Several quests tie directly to the mechanics above, including opening Portals, shattering Void Crystals, repairing Generators with a Crystal, and landing Empowered Breaks. Once the energy loop clicks, those objectives tend to finish themselves as you play.
