Debt Hunt Guide: Best Roles and How to Get Money Fast

Role stats, DarkMarket prices, and the daily loot loop that clears the debt before the wolf starts hunting.

Role stats, DarkMarket prices, and the daily loot loop that clears the debt before the wolf starts hunting.

Debt Hunt drops you into a procedurally generated forest with a bill you did not agree to and a monster that starts hunting at sunset. The whole game is one loop: scavenge during daylight, dump everything into the sell box at the RV, and survive the night while the balance ticks up. Fall short by the final day and the run ends badly.

Quick answer: Pick Tank if you are playing solo, spend your first DarkMarket cash on the pickaxe ($274) and crowbar ($214), and deposit every item into the SELL box at the RV before sunset — loot in your hands at the end of the day is worth nothing until it goes in the box.

How the debt clock works

Every contract gives you a fixed target and three days to hit it. A standard run opens on DAY 1 MORNING with something like BALANCE 91 / 1500 $ and the reminder that you have 3 DAYS LEFT TO CLEAR THE DEBT. Harder contracts raise that number — a $2,000 quota is common — so check the target before you plan your route.

Cash is not credited the moment you pick something up. Items only count once they are inside the SELL crate beside the camper van, and the totals are tallied on the DAY RESULTS screen at the end of each phase. That screen is your verification: it lists each item sold, adds the total to your balance, and updates the days remaining.

Clear the full amount and the results screen subtracts the debt, leaves your surplus as the new balance, and rolls straight into the second objective — three days to hunt the wolf. That is when the rifle stops being optional.

Best roles in Debt Hunt and what each one does

Roles are bought from the store in the lobby and each one bends the money loop in a different direction. Prices sit between $4,500 and $5,600, so most players run the default for a while before committing.

RolePriceWhat it changes
Hunter$4,500Speed 0.9, higher rifle damage and faster reloads. Works solo or in a squad, and the obvious pick for the wolf phase.
Photographer$5,200Speed 1.1, starts with a camera, photos sell for 1.2x. The friendliest starting role.
Miner$5,500Stamina 0.8 from the pickaxe weight, minerals sell for 1.3x and nodes yield extra ore. Fastest raw income.
Tank$5,600125 health, 1.1 stamina, 22.5kg carry capacity. Strongest all-round option, especially alone.

Carry capacity is the stat that quietly decides how many trips you make, which is why Tank tends to out-earn the specialists on a solo run. In a crew, splitting a Miner and a Photographer covers both high-value ore and camera income without anyone doubling up.

Fastest ways to earn cash before sunset

The map is different every run, so a memorised route is useless. Grab what is on your path and skip anything that needs a long detour. Mushrooms, berries, wallets, coins, plushies, lighters, spray paint, scrap metal, wire coils, car batteries, cell phones, and expired driver licenses all sell, and they are scattered across picnic tables, workbenches, tents, watchtowers, brick cabins, and the underground bunker.

Locked supply crates are worth the stop. Notes and papers left around the map carry four-digit codes, such as 0310 or 3294, that open the forest supply crate near the information board. Those crates hand out tools like the pickaxe and hammer, which is the cheapest way to skip a DarkMarket purchase entirely.

Watch the ground while you run. Tripping over a log stuns you for a moment, and a stun on the wrong side of the map after dark is how runs end.

If you own a camera, photograph targets you pass and, once night falls, the monster itself. Photos upload through the laptop’s Photostock tab for extra cash, and the camera has limited memory, so empty it between shifts.

Pickaxe and crowbar: The two tools that change your income

Ore is the highest-density money on the map. The pickaxe breaks mineral deposits scattered around the park, in the cave, and on the grassy ridges, with pink, green, and glowing legendary nodes paying progressively more. A single good mining day can swing a balance from a few hundred dollars to over a thousand.

The crowbar handles everything the map has boarded up. It smashes the planks across cabin doors and pries open interior doors in the brick building, and those rooms hold scrap metal, shelves of small valuables, and the occasional electronics haul. A shovel is worth grabbing too — patches of disturbed earth hide buried coins.

Generator fuel and surviving the night

The generator at the RV powers the camp lights and needs gasoline canisters, which you find around the map and can also buy for $5. Turn it off during the day. Daylight costs you nothing and burning fuel while the sun is up leaves you dark at the worst possible time.

At sunset the monster starts hunting. Stop farming the moment it is out and you are exposed — head for the camper, the fenced perimeter, or the map edges. It will roar, charge the fence, and stalk right past the camper doorway, but staying inside works. If a teammate goes down, pick them up; downed players can also be revived from the laptop for cash.

Note: if you have already banked enough for the day, you can end the night early from the driver’s seat panel in the van rather than gambling on one more loot run.

DarkMarket prices and what to buy first

The laptop inside the camper opens the DarkMarket alongside the Photostock, Medhelp, and City News tabs. You do not need to shop every day, and hoarding cash is often the correct play when the quota is close.

ItemPriceWhy buy it
Gasoline$5Tops up the generator when the map is stingy with canisters.
Ammo Box$49Only useful once you own a rifle.
Bear Trap$99Placed on gateways and main paths as passive defence.
Crowbar$214Opens boarded cabins and locked interior doors.
Pickaxe$274Unlocks every mineral node on the map.
Rifle$1,000Required for the wolf hunt phase, not for clearing the debt.

Buy tools before weapons. The pickaxe and crowbar pay for themselves within a day, while a rifle bought on day one is $1,000 of quota you now have to re-earn. Save the gun for after the debt is cleared, then stock ammo boxes and medkits before the final night. Debt Hunt is flagged as an alpha build, so prices and values can shift between updates.

Redeem the RELEASE code for free cash and XP

One code is currently active, and it is a genuine head start toward a role purchase.

Launch Debt Hunt and wait until your character is standing in the lobby. Codes cannot be entered mid-run.
Click the gear icon on the left side of the screen to open Settings, then select the Codes tab along the top.
Type RELEASE into the entry box and press Enter. It grants 400 XP and $900.

You will know it worked when your cash and XP totals jump immediately. If nothing happens, the usual culprits are a stray space around the code, the wrong letter case, or the fact that the code is one use per account and you have already claimed it.

The runs that fail are almost never the ones that found too little loot — they are the ones still carrying it when the sun goes down. Set yourself a hard turnaround point each afternoon, walk everything back to the sell box, and let the DAY RESULTS screen tell you how much ground you actually made up.
