Every job in Demonology comes down to one task. You find the ghost room, collect three unique evidence types, and match them to a single ghost in your Journal before it kills you. There are eight evidence types in the game, and each one needs a specific piece of equipment to detect. Get all three correct and the ghost list filters down to one answer.

Quick answer: The eight evidence types are EMF Level 5, Spirit Box, Handprints, Freezing Temperatures, Ghost Orb, Ghost Writing, Laser Projector, and Wither. Each ghost leaves exactly three. Mark the three you confirm in the Journal to identify the spirit.

Each evidence type pairs with one main tool. Use this as a fast reference before you head into a job, then read the detailed confirmation rules below to avoid marking the wrong thing.

EMF Level 5

The EMF Reader reacts whenever a ghost interacts with an object, manifests, or starts a hunt nearby. Lower readings happen often in the ghost room, but only the top reading counts. EMF Level 5 is confirmed when the final red light illuminates and all five lights are on. At that point you also hear a sharp, high-pitched beep. Anything below Level 5 is not evidence, so do not mark it.

Spirit Box

The Spirit Box lets the ghost talk back to you. To get a response, stand inside the ghost room with the lights off and hold the device. If the ghost replies, you hear it audibly and see red caption text at the bottom of the screen. Either signal confirms the evidence.

Roblox voice chat does not work for Spirit Box prompts, so ask through in-game text. The Plushie equipment forces a guaranteed response when it starts levitating, which is useful when the ghost stays quiet.

Handprints

Handprints, also called fingerprints or footprints, appear after the ghost touches doors, windows, walls, other investigators, or disturbed salt lines. They are invisible to the naked eye, so scan surfaces with the Blacklight to reveal green marks.

Prints fade after a set time that depends on the difficulty, so check rooms quickly. For a guaranteed result, spread lines with the Salt Canister. If the ghost steps through them, it leaves footprints behind, which confirms the evidence.

Freezing Temperatures

Use the Thermometer to read the room. Freezing Temperatures is confirmed once the temperature drops below 0°C or 32°F. You can also read the room visually. Visible breath, fog spreading across the floor, and windows that freeze over all count as the same evidence.

Note: A reading that dips near freezing and then climbs back up usually rules this evidence out. Hold the thermometer until the temperature settles before deciding.

Ghost Orb

A Ghost Orb is a small floating ball of light inside the ghost room. You cannot see it with the naked eye. It only shows up through a camera, so view it through the Video Monitor, through a teammate wearing a Head-Mounted Camera, by placing a Video Camera in the room, or by looking through the Video Camera directly.

On Nightmare difficulty the ghost room can change, and the orb slowly drifts to the new room over time. Be careful here. Skinwalkers can fake Ghost Orb evidence, so confirm three other evidences before you trust an orb on the list.

Ghost Writing

Place the Spirit Book on the floor inside the ghost’s favorite room and wait. If the ghost has this evidence, it leaves scribbles or markings inside the pages. The evidence only counts once visible writing appears.

Ghost Writing can be disproven if the ghost throws the book outside of a hunt. As of May 2026, this evidence is set to be renamed Inscription, since ghosts will also leave markings on walls, not just inside the book. Until that update lands, Spirit Book writing still counts.


Laser Projector

The Laser Projector throws a grid of light across a room. Ghosts with this evidence become faintly visible when they walk near or through the beam. The effect is subtle, so point a Video Camera at the projector to catch the movement more easily.

Tip: If silhouettes are hard to see, open the Roblox menu, go to Settings, switch Graphics Mode to Manual, and set the graphics level to 1 bar. Lower graphics make the ghost easier to spot and reduce visual delay on some devices.

Wither

Wither shows up when the ghost passively decays the environment over time. Metal rusts, paintings distort, and other parts of the map start to deteriorate. The timing is random, so it can take a while to show.

The cleanest way to confirm it is the Flower Pot. Place it in the ghost’s favorite room, and if the ghost interacts with it the flower wilts and dies. On the Prison map, certain prisoner NPC animations also act as a Wither indicator, so factor that in there.

Ghost evidence combinations

Every ghost type uses a fixed set of three evidences. Once you confirm three correct readings, the Journal narrows the list to one ghost. Use the table below to match your findings, but cross-check carefully when a Skinwalker is possible, since it fakes Ghost Orb and mimics other abilities.

How to confirm you identified the ghost

Toggle each confirmed evidence on in your Journal and scratch out the types you have ruled out. The desktop hotkey for the Journal is J. When three correct evidences are marked, the list auto-filters to a single ghost. If that happens, you have your answer. Call it in and extract while you are still alive.

One trap worth repeating. If three confirmed evidences plus a Ghost Orb point to no single ghost, the orb is fake and you are dealing with a Skinwalker. Four marked evidences always mean the orb does not belong, so verify with the Spirit Book and Spirit Box before you commit.

The two easiest evidences to read are Freezing Temperatures and EMF Level 5, since both give clear visual and audio signals through their tools. Lead with those when you are still locating the ghost room, then layer in the slower evidence types like Ghost Writing and Wither once your kit is placed.
