The Horadric Cube in Diablo 4 Season 15 does far more than its menu admits. Hell’s Legacy shipped with a layer of recipes that never appear in the interface, never announce themselves, and only resolve when you drop the exact right ingredients inside. Some of them rebuild Diablo 2 runewords from scratch. Others quietly hand you a coin that opens a portal to all three Prime Evils at once.

Quick answer: Hidden Cube recipes have no menu entry. Place the exact ingredients — a white base plus runes, three copies of a rune, or a specific item set — then hit Transmute. Valid combinations show as ???.
How hidden Horadric Cube recipes work in Season 15
There is no discovery step, no unlock, and no recipe list to consult. You place items in the Cube one at a time, and if the game recognizes the combination, the output slot displays ??? instead of a named result. Transmuting then produces the item. If the combination is invalid, nothing happens and your materials stay put.
This mirrors how Diablo 2 handled its unlisted Cube formulas, which is why so many of the working combinations are recognizable to anyone who spent time in the Worldstone Keep. The Cube itself unlocks through the Lord of Hatred campaign, and access is account wide once you finish the short tutorial that follows.

Add to Google Preferences →All 14 hidden rune upgrade recipes
Season 15’s system includes 12 runes: Amn and Eth; Mal and Ort; Tal and Ber; Ist and Ith; Lo and Ral; Sol and Tir. It also hides an upgrade route from lower runes to higher ones, but the route has a break: no recipe connecting Sol to Mal exists, leaving two separate ladders.
| Put in | Get |
|---|---|
| Tir x3 | Eth |
| Eth x3 | Ith |
| Ith x3 | Tal |
| Tal x3 | Ral |
| Ral x3 | Ort |
| Ort x3 | Thul |
| Thul x3 + Chipped Topaz | Amn |
| Amn x3 + Chipped Amethyst | Sol |
| Mal x2 + Flawless Amethyst | Ist |
| Ist x2 + Flawless Ruby | Vex |
| Vex x2 + Flawless Emerald | Ohm |
| Ohm x2 + Flawless Diamond | Lo |
| Lo x2 + Grand Topaz | Ber |
| Ber x2 + Grand Sapphire | Jah |
Use this progression as a simple reference. Each of the six lowest upgrades takes three runes alone. Thul and Amn each require three runes and a Chipped gem. Starting with Mal, recipes use two runes, while the required gem advances through Flawless and eventually Grand. The gem sequence is Topaz, Amethyst, Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald, then Diamond, moved up one tier because Diablo 4 begins with Crude instead of Chipped.
At the Jeweler, Royal Gems require 10 Forgotten Souls rather than 30, while Grand Gems now take 50 instead of 300. That makes the ladder’s upper recipes far less expensive.
Legacy Runeword recipes and the white bases they need
Legacy Runewords are the headline hidden system. They have nothing to do with the existing Ritual and Invocation rune pairings you socket into gear. Instead you drop a common-quality white base item into the Cube alongside loose runes, and the result is a named Unique modeled on its Diablo 2 counterpart. No sockets are required on the base.
| Runeword | Runes | Base item |
|---|---|---|
| Ancient’s Pledge | Ral + Ort + Tal | Focus, Totem, Shield |
| Call to Arms | Amn + Ral + Mal + Ist + Ohm | One-handed weapons or off-hands |
| Edge | Tir + Tal + Amn | Ranged or two-handed weapon |
| Enigma | Jah + Ith + Ber | Chest Armor |
| Grief | Eth + Tir + Lo + Mal + Ral | 1H Sword or Axe |
| Holy Thunder | Eth + Ral + Ort + Tal | Mace or Flail |
| Infinity | Ber + Mal + Ber + Ist | Two-handed weapons |
| Insight | Ral + Tir + Tal + Sol | Two-handed weapons |
| King’s Grace | Amn + Ral + Thul | Mace, Flail, or Sword |
| Leaf | Tir + Ral | Staff |
| Lore | Ort + Sol | Helm |
| Pattern | Tal + Ort + Thul | Dagger |
| Phoenix | Vex + Vex + Lo + Jah | One-handed weapons or off-hands |
| Prudence | Mal + Tir | Chest Armor |
| Rain | Ort + Mal + Ith | Chest Armor |
| Spirit | Tal + Thul + Ort + Amn | One-handed weapons or off-hands |
| Stealth | Tal + Eth | Chest Armor |
| Strength | Amn + Tir | One-handed weapons or off-hands |
| Zephyr | Ort + Eth | Bow or Crossbow |
Because some recipes accept several base types, the 19 recipes cover 84 item variants in total. The finished runeword behaves like any other Unique, so you can socket it, enchant it, and transfigure it. It scales off the base you used, so hold onto the highest Item Power white base you can find before committing a Jah or a Ber.
Legacy Runewords are not eligible for tempering. Also verify that your class equips the exact base category: even if a recipe calls for a Polearm, it does not grant every class access to every Polearm.
If you need clean white bases, gambling for white, gray, and blue items is the fastest route. Blue items can be stripped back down using the remove affix recipe in the Cube.
Hidden item recipes, including Wirt’s Lucky Coins
A second group of unlisted recipes turns junk consumables and quest leftovers into caches and curiosities. These only work while Season 15 is running.
| Put in | Get |
|---|---|
| Torn Page + Rusty Cow Bell x3 | Outcast’s Travel Pouch |
| Horadric Coin + Engagement Ring x2 + Lost Amulet | Sack of Ill Trinkets |
| 10 Gold | Torn Net |
| Cheap Bangles + Lost Amulet + Useless Key + Holy Chalice + Engagement Ring | Worthless Gold Cache |
| Neyrelle’s Hand + Rusted Bardiche + Stamina Potion | Trophy of the Faithful |
| Splinter of Terror + Splinter of Destruction + Splinter of Hatred | Wirt’s Lucky Coins |
Wirt’s Lucky Coins is the one worth farming for. The coin feeds the Echo of Tristram secret: throw one into the Tristram fountain and a red portal opens to a fight against Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto simultaneously. The rest range from mildly useful caches to outright developer jokes — the Worthless Gold Cache does exactly what its name suggests and drops small piles of 10 gold.

The Stealth to Enigma recycle trick
Legacy Runewords count as Uniques, which means the standard three-to-one recycling recipe accepts them. Feed the Cube three Stealth runewords and the output picks up Enigma-style teleport behavior, despite Stealth being the cheapest chest recipe in the game at Tal + Eth.

The prevailing read is that this is unintended, since Stealth and Enigma share the same icon internally. Until it gets patched, it is a far cheaper route to a teleport effect than chasing down a Jah, an Ith, and a Ber.
Lock a Greater Affix at the Occultist before rerolling
This one is not a Cube recipe at all, but it protects everything you do inside the Cube. Enchanting an affix at the Occultist permanently locks that slot, even if you pick the no-change option, and a locked slot cannot be touched by Remove Affix or Focused Reroll afterward.

Done properly, this is how gloves end up carrying stacked multipliers — Critical Strike Damage alongside Vulnerable Damage and Attack Speed — without a stray reroll wiping the affix you were building around.
Affix Value Reroll and Horadric Reroll: what each one protects
Season 15 added two reroll recipes that do different jobs, and mixing them up wastes materials.
- Affix Value Reroll rerolls the values of all base affixes on equipment, Charms, and Seals at once, while leaving Greater Affixes, Enchanted affixes, Tempers, and Transfigurations alone. It costs Attuned Primordial Dust.
- Horadric Reroll applies only to Legendary or higher Charms and Seals. It completely randomizes their base affixes while leaving Set Bonuses and Unique and Mythic charm powers intact.
Two bug fixes also matter here. Unique Charms and Unique Items can now have their powers rerolled through the Cube, and Mythic Amulets no longer land on sub-maximum Unique Affix values the first time they are Transfigured.
Upgrade Direct Item to Mythic and the Crafted tag
Mythic Uniques can be made three ways — the Cube’s Upgrade Direct Item to Mythic recipe, Rune Crafting at the Jeweler, or the Blacksmith’s Mythic Cache. The Cube route costs more than the other two, but it is a full 1:1 transfer. Put in a Tibault’s Will with the affixes, tempers, and masterworking you already invested in, and the Mythic version keeps all of it.
Unmodifiable items are rejected by this recipe, so Transfigure the piece only afterward. The resulting item receives a Crafted tag, and you may equip just one Crafted item at once. Items made by the Jeweler or Blacksmith as Mythics do not receive that tag.
Amalgamation shortcuts for runes, tributes, sigils, and Seals
Amalgamation upgrades stacks of the same consumable, socketable, or dungeon key into a higher tier version. Several of the most useful conversions are never spelled out.
- Five Rare runes amalgamate into one random Legendary rune, which is the cheapest source of Legendary runes for Mythic crafting.
- Five Blue Tributes of the same type become one Yellow Tribute; five Yellow become one Legendary, which is how you climb Kurast Undercity reward tiers.
- Five Nightmare Dungeon sigils produce an Escalating Nightmare sigil, which pays out more Primordial Dust.
- Three Legendary Horadric Seals through 3 to 1 Transmutation can return a Seal with a bonus +1 Charm Slot, which is worth chasing before you spend Affix Value Rerolls on one.
How to confirm a hidden transmute worked
Two signals tell you a hidden recipe registered. Before transmuting, a valid combination replaces the empty output preview with ???. After transmuting, the result does not sit in the Cube — it drops straight into your inventory, which is why players regularly assume their materials vanished.
Take a screenshot of your inventory before you press Transmute on an unfamiliar combination, then compare afterward. For Legacy Runewords there is no ambiguity at all, since the finished item appears as a named Unique with its rune recipe listed at the bottom of the tooltip.
Plenty of combinations are still unmapped. References to Hellfire Torch and Annihilus have surfaced in Season 15, with hints pointing toward the Talisman system, but no confirmed way to obtain either exists in the live game yet. Until that changes, the practical move is to stop vendoring odd quest items, keep a few high Item Power white bases in each slot you care about, and try anything that looks like it came out of Diablo 2 — most of the time, it does something.
