Rose’s slide looks like a classic dodge roll, so players reach for it the moment a boss winds up. It does get her out of trouble, but not the way a true invincibility move would. Knowing the difference decides whether a swing passes harmlessly overhead or clips her anyway.
Quick answer: No. The slide has no invincibility frames. It lowers Rose so high shots and swings miss, and she slips through small enemies, but any hit that reaches her low body still connects.
The slide has no i-frames
The slide depends on Rose’s position rather than granting immunity. For roughly 0.63 seconds, she stays close to the floor; attacks passing above her can miss, and she can move through small enemies.
You trigger it with a direction (W/A/S/D) plus Shift on PC, or a direction plus Circle on PlayStation. The in-game tutorial describes it plainly:
Sliding allows you to squeeze through narrow passages, pass through enemies, and reposition Rose out of harm’s way during combat.

Because it is a height trick, the slide shines against anything that travels above the ground or commits to a straight path.
- Ducking under arrows and other shots.
- Sliding through an enemy brings Rose out on its far side.
- Passing under lunges and dashes.
Sliding or dodging backward can also create an attack opening. With a one-handed sword, Rose’s immediate follow-up attacks deal more damage than her regular swings, so use the move to set up a stronger hit as well as to gain space.
Slide timing and cooldown
Rose covers her distance in the first half second. She can slide again after 0.8 seconds. That delay can matter when escaping: a second slide isn’t available immediately, so make your first slide count instead of planning to chain another.

The backward dodge
For melee pressure, the backward dodge is usually the better tool. The tutorial spells it out:
Press [Circle] while stationary to perform a backward dodge. Pressing [Circle] again during the first dodge will cause you to move even further back.
On PC the same move is bound to Shift. Rose moves in the first third of a second and recovers quickly, which makes it the cleaner choice for stepping out of a melee swing’s reach.
Moves that do make Rose untouchable
Real invulnerability exists in the game, just not on the slide. These are the moments nothing can touch her:
- A successful Holy Light parry grants 1 second of full invulnerability (see how to parry with Holy Light).
- Rose is protected from another hit for 1 second after taking damage.
- Rose is protected while swinging from a whip ring or pulling herself toward one.
Attacks you cannot slide through
Some attacks reach Rose’s lowered body or cannot be ducked at all. Against these, use spacing or a parry instead of sliding into them.
- The Fallen: the close-range bash.
- Medusa: get out of the path of her petrifying eye ray.
- Joan of Arc: the fire pillars as they explode, and the charge-up before her empowered strikes.
- Death: the reaping chain, in both fights.
- Isaac: his grab attack and the counter he launches from a parry stance.
- Talos: his stomps, enormous fist, and columns of fire.
- Carmilla: her blood-spike projectiles and the numbered blood mark.
- Dracula: Watch for the explosive blood blast and his grab; while winged, beware the rising claw, the life-draining grab, and the stream of bats.
- The Succubus: exploding claws and projectiles that drain Rose.
- The ??? shadow boss: its gap-closing dash.
- Arthur: rays of light and crystal shards.
- Mammon: Avoid the cloud that transforms Rose into gold.
Treat the slide as a repositioning tool, not a safety button. Lean on the backward dodge against melee, save the slide for shots and straight-line rushes, and keep the Holy Light parry in mind for the one true second of invulnerability when a boss commits to an unslideable attack.
