Dark Arisen changes how weapon skills reach your bar in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Alongside the skills you buy with Discipline, relic weapons recovered in Norgan can roll upgraded forms of skills you already know or brand-new ones, and a top-tier relic carries several at once. Combined with the six-skill bar added to the base game, every vocation now has room for a dedicated damage setup and a utility tool, rather than the cramped four-slot kit the 2024 game shipped with.

Quick answer: Relics come in four tiers, and a Level 4 relic weapon holds up to four skill slots. Fill those with the upgraded skills that suit your vocation, then back them with one or two passives built into the gear.

How relic skills and slots work in Norgan

Relics appraised from Norgan spoils range from Level 1 to Level 4, and higher tiers carry better stats and more skill slots. Weapons and body or leg armor top out at four slots, while shields and helmets hold three. A relic can arrive with a custom skill or an altered version of one you already use; those modified skills flash dark red when triggered so you can tell them apart from the standard versions.

The Options menu shows the interface settings, with Formidable Foe Indicators set to On to display icons over the heads of formidable foes in Norgan.

The base game’s title update expanded the equipped-skill limit from four to six, and Norgan’s enemies are built with that capacity in mind. For most vocations, use the two added slots for a defensive option and a relic skill. Filling them with attacks instead can leave you without healing, a knockdown, or a climbing option.

Lost Rites gear uses fixed properties instead of random rolls, so if you dislike the appraisal lottery, build your main weapon from those trials and treat Norgan relics as sidegrades and effect pieces.

Each vocation has a four-skill setup that covers its main damage pattern plus a passive or two. Use the table as a quick reference, then read the notes below for what each loadout is doing.

Melee vocations

Fighter uses sword relics with Plenilune Slash for a versatile attack, supported by Tornadic Strike and Cloudfall Strike. Cloudward Slash evolves into Cloudfall Strike, dealing extra damage to airborne, mid-jump, or launched foes. Choose Breakneck Toss for the weapon, or take Forceful Strikes as the alternative passive. Shield relics may carry Punishing Counter, which improves Vengeful Slash by sending smaller foes upward on a counter, as well as defensive passives such as Deflected Impact, Battering Shield, and Thawing Shield.

Warrior greatsword relics can roll Razing Ruin and Tidal Rage as the damage core. Back them with Swift Strike II, which speeds up charge time, and Mighty Chain, which boosts light attacks and loosens the timing on Chain of Blows. Fast charges matter for this vocation in Norgan, where freeze breath can interrupt a slow committed swing.

Thief daggers can roll Fanged Rupture, Effortless Kill, and Shearing Wind for a mobile burst kit, with Chaotic Strike as the general passive. Dagger-specific passives include Piercing Escalade, which raises climbing attack damage, and Nimble Tread, which increases climb speed, both of which suit the vocation’s strength at scaling large monsters.

Duospear relics for Mystic Spearhand may carry Magike Sperebaliste, which upgrades Magike Speregonne and launches smaller targets when it hits, along with Bataille Lich, Dragoun’s Pounce, and Skiedragoun’s Edaicite. For the final slot, take the Extended Burst passive or Vertiginous Strike. The six-slot limit allows this vocation to equip a gap-closer and a relic skill while preserving its signature playstyle.

Ranged and magick vocations

Archer bows may roll Cataract Shot for focused damage against one target, or Corkscrew Arrow for area damage; Myriad Shot, Stampede Shot, and Eagle Arrow are also in the pool. Critical Shot increases damage to weak points, while Full Bend strengthens Puncture Dart, completing a precise ranged setup.

Mage staff relics can roll Argent Solace for healing, Elemental Pact or Deific Bolt for offense, and support passives that are hard to find elsewhere. Extended Recovery lengthens the Anodyne heal buff, and Fortified Invocation cuts damage and resists knockdown while you are casting, which keeps a backline Mage upright in windy fights.

Sorcerer archistaves can roll Grand Brontide and Grand Decanter for area damage, with Grand Spellhold and the Fortified Invocation passive protecting your long casts. Grand Salamander, Grand Hagol, and Grand Seism are also in the roll pool, giving you fire, ice, and earth coverage depending on what the relic offers.

Magick Archer magick bows can roll Sagittate Whiteout, an upgraded Sagittate Avalanche that keeps firing magickal arrows on extra button presses, plus Glacial Bolt and Shadesnare Bolt. Add Debilitating Bolts, or Restorative Bolts if you want more party support from your shots.

Trickster

Trickster censer relics may have Dwelling Effigy, Figmental Facade for creating as many as three walls, and Gliding Gauze. Phantasmal Tome supports these with a chance to leave a grimoire unspent when used. Pungent Alarum is another option: it marks tokens, ducats, dragonplague-infected pawns, and obelisks, making it handy for exploration rather than dealing damage.

Best armor passives for head, chest, and legs

Armor relics carry passives instead of weapon skills. Helmets hold three slots, while body and leg pieces hold four, so prioritize survivability and the resistances Norgan throws at you.

Helmet3Relic Hunter, Imperiled Reflexes, Slashing Resistance II
Body4Health Boost III, Stamina Boost III, Survival Instinct, Siege Hardened
Legs4Stamina Boost, Health Boost, Enduring Grip, Homing Instinct, Wind Rider

Relic Hunter raises the number of relic drops, so it pays for itself while farming Norgan. Imperiled Reflexes lets you recover instantly from knockdowns and staggers, Survival Instinct slows loss-gauge buildup, Siege Hardened grants a defense buff when you take a hit, and Enduring Grip cuts the stamina spent while climbing.

Vocation unlock costs and stat growth (verified game data)

Before you commit to a vocation for your relic hunt, it helps to know what it costs to switch into it and max it out, plus how it shapes your stats as you level. These are the figures used while building any of the setups above.

VocationDiscipline to acquireDiscipline to max rankUsable by
Fighter10027,700Arisen and pawns
Archer10027,700Arisen and pawns
Mage10027,700Arisen and pawns
Magick Archer20027,200Arisen only
Mystic Spearhand20027,200Arisen only

Every one of these vocations reaches a highest rank of 9. The hybrid vocations cost 200 Discipline to acquire against 100 for the basic ones, but their path to max rank is slightly cheaper at 27,200. Mystic Spearhand and Magick Archer are Arisen-only; the basic vocations can be run by pawns as well.

Stat growth differs sharply between them, which affects how a relic build scales over many levels. The multipliers below are applied each time you level up while in that vocation.

VocationStrength growthMagick growthHealth growth
Fighter1.30.61.4
Archer1.20.81.0
Mage0.81.40.8
Magick Archer0.91.41.0
Mystic Spearhand1.21.21.2

Mystic Spearhand stands out as the only vocation here that pushes both strength and magick at 1.2, matching its hybrid kit, and it also gains a flat boost of 50 strength, 50 magick, 50 health, and 100 stamina while equipped. Fighter grows the most health at 1.4 and adds a flat 150 health in-vocation, making it the sturdiest frame for a relic weapon. Mage and Magick Archer both climb magick fastest at 1.4, which is why their relic setups lean on spell and bolt damage rather than physical hits.
