Some of the Dark Arisen expansion’s best equipment lies far from the usual routes. Explore the snowy Norgan region and the Lost Rite dungeons spread throughout the base map to find rings that boost your ability to survive, augments that affect loot and fast travel, and a cloak made with firebird feathers. These rewards are easy to overlook.

Quick answer: The powerful missable items come from three systems: rings auto-crafted from collected Scarthes, rings and augments sealed inside hidden chests, and gear tied to Norgan side quests like the Firebird Cloak.

Scarthe-crafted rings and where the materials drop

Scarthes are materials that specific enemies leave behind in Norgan. Once you gather enough of a given type, the game turns them into one of a set of rings automatically. Each Scarthe is tied to its own enemy and its own pool of possible rings, so farming the right monster points you toward the effect you want.

ScartheDropped byNeeded to craft
Pulsating ScartheWisp, Ghoul10
Frostbitten ScartheFimbl8
Sinister ScartheLesser Demon8

If you would rather buy than farm, Pulsating Scarthe costs 300 to purchase and sells for 100, while Frostbitten Scarthe costs 500 and sells for 150. Sinister Scarthe sells for 150. Every ring these produce weighs almost nothing and works across all vocations.

The rings themselves cover a wide range of effects, from clean upgrades to high-risk trade-offs. Here is what the notable ones do and the materials each needs.

RingEffectMaterials
Ring of ContingencySurvives one otherwise-fatal blow, then breaksPulsating x10
Ring of PlunderageRare chance for normal attacks to steal spoilsEphemeral x5, Pulsating x10
Ring of RearrivalLost main pawn returns when you rest at campPulsating x10
Ring of EnervationRefunds stamina when a skill’s first hit landsPulsating x10
Ring of DemonsbaneMore damage against wicked beingsFrostbitten x8
Ring of InversionHalves stamina, doubles healthEphemeral x5, Frostbitten x8
Ring of GlidingLonger jumps and throws with the wind behind youFrostbitten x8
Ring of AudacitySkills cost no stamina, but you take damage when idleSinister x8
Ring of NocturnalityDrains health by day, heals through the nightSinister x8
Ring of RetaliationChance to slow an attacker who lands a strikeEphemeral x5, Sinister x8
Ring of RejuvenescenceRecovers stamina on each standard hitEphemeral x5, Sinister x8

Each crafted ring carries a 1,000 buy price and a 1,500 sell price if you ever handle them through a vendor. The Ring of Inversion is the clearest swing of the set, trading away half your stamina for double your maximum health, which suits heavy melee vocations far more than caster builds.

Ring of Levity from appraised spoils

Norgan uses a random-reward mechanic known as Spoils. Enemies and chests yield unidentified items, which you take back to the settlement for appraisal. Appraising Abandoned Supplies may give you the Ring of Levity; it reduces your Weight Carried rating by one tier, so Heavy becomes Average, for instance.

The effect stacks, so equipping two Rings of Levity shifts your weight class down twice. It weighs 0.01 and can also be crafted from Ephemeral Scarthe x5 if you pull the material instead of the finished ring.

Shrouded Warren’s hidden floor and its rings

Inside the Shrouded Warren Lost Rite, a stretch of hallway past the normal boss room hides a breakable floor. The trigger is weight: with only the Arisen and the main pawn present and the Arisen’s status pushed to Very Heavy, standing in the middle of the corridor for several seconds collapses the floor. A Logistician main pawn will quietly shuffle your load to keep you light, which prevents the break, so that vocation has to sit out.

Below waits a Lich-type boss guarding a chest. Clearing it yields the Ring of Exorcism, which adds damage against otherworldly and corrupted foes, the Ring of Dragonsbane, which adds damage against dragonkin, and an Offering Flame.

Beorcan Stronghold augments: Fortuity and Advertence

Two of Dark Arisen’s new augments are locked behind the Beorcan Twinned Key. Its two halves sit in underground tunnels marked by the northeast and southeast black squares on the stronghold map. With both halves in hand, the main stronghold door opens onto a large chest holding the Treatise on Fortuity and the Treatise on Advertence.

  • Treatise on Fortuity raises the bonus gold found in chests and the bonus meat dropped by beasts.
  • Treatise on Advertence marks the items a foe can drop on your minimap, but only once you have already slain that enemy type.

Treatise on Lupinity from the wolf quests

The Treatise on Lupinity augment reduces the stamina you burn while traveling with your hound. It comes from Norgan’s wolf questline. After taking Freki on a walk, a nearby child asks for a Snow Deer Bone as a treat, and a follow-up sends you after a lost wolf named Skoll. Finishing that chain hands over the augment.

The Firebird Cloak questline

The Firebird Cloak is woven from gagana feathers and sits at the end of a merchant’s errand. After reaching the Eastern Snowfield and meeting the soldier commission at Northwall Campground, you rescue Amos in the snowfield and then the merchant Aymond, sending him on to the Norgan settlement. Speaking with Aymond there starts the feather hunt.

The feather itself comes from a Gagana at Gagana’s Grotto. You summon and kill the beast once, rest for five in-game days to make a new one appear, then ride it to its nest when its health is low and take the feather from there. Handing it to Aymond produces the cloak.

The finished Firebird Cloak carries 529 Defense and 188 Magick Defense, with 520 Knockdown Resistance. Its draw is elemental protection: +20% Fire Resistance alongside Torched resistance of +75% and Blighted resistance of +20%, which makes it a strong pick against fire-heavy enemies.

The missable Norgan Portcrystal

Norgan uses its own Portcrystals, separate from the base map, and one free crystal is tucked away inside the Mountain Stronghold. Coming in through the south entrance and heading up the stairs, a chest sits in the corner holding a Norgan Portcrystal. It is simple to miss on a first pass and saves a lot of backtracking later.

Norgan Ducat rewards: Ring of Virtue and the Wisdom Corset

Dwayne’s Norgan shop takes Ducats instead of gold. Two purchases are especially notable. The Ring of Virtue is priced at one Ducat; wear it while defeating the expansion’s final boss to unlock its full potential. At 90 Ducats, the Wisdom Corset paired with the Girdle of Sagacity gives you a transmog outfit, but neither piece has unique stats.

Taken together, these pickups reward exploration far more than the main story demands. The Scarthe rings alone give you a reason to farm Wisps, Fimbls and Lesser Demons long after the Norgan campaign is over, and the hidden chests and augments make the Lost Rite detours and wolf errands worth finishing before you leave the region behind.
