Three classic Grand Theft Auto cities now share a single screen thanks to a mod from creator Salim “Dryxio” Trouvé. It drops live portals into GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas, so you can step from Grove Street straight into Liberty City or Vice City, then turn around and walk back. Each doorway is a real window into another game that is running at the same time, not a looping video or a captured screenshot.
Quick answer: The mod is not out yet. Dryxio has said it will arrive before GTA 6 launches, and you can track its progress on his GitHub page.
How the portals work
All three games run live inside one process and share a single Direct3D device. That is the key trick. Instead of stitching together separate videos, each portal is a live GPU texture with the other game genuinely rendering behind it on the same hardware.
Because every game keeps running, the worlds stay busy even when you are not standing in them. Traffic, physics, NPC behavior, and police AI all keep ticking in each city independently. Walking through a portal swaps control to whichever engine you enter, so you change into that game’s protagonist. Cross into Vice City and you take over as Tommy Vercetti, then use a return portal to head back to the hub.
Actions carry across the openings too. You can fire a weapon through a portal and hit a target in the neighboring game, and the characters and law enforcement on the other side react as they normally would. The clip does not show NPCs chasing you back through a portal, so that kind of cross-world pursuit is not part of what has been demonstrated.

Add to Google Preferences →Separate saves keep each city intact
Each game holds onto its own saves, missions, and settings. That means progress in one city does not spill into another, and messing with GTA 3’s world will not send the San Andreas or Vice City cops after you at the same time. Every save file is written independently, which keeps the whole setup from corrupting itself while three games run side by side.
The Portal Gun and movable windows
The portals are not locked to fixed spots. Dryxio uses a modified weapon named the Portal Gun to spawn and reposition the windows wherever he wants inside each world. That lets you place a doorway to another game almost anywhere, which opens the door to plenty of experimentation for anyone making videos with these older titles.
How this compares to Dryxio’s earlier mod
This is a step up from his previous experiment, which put a playable copy of Vice City and GTA 3 on a television texture inside CJ’s house in San Andreas. That earlier version rendered another game on a small in-world screen. The portal build turns those screens into full doorways you can walk through and interact with directly.
| Feature | TV texture mod | Portal mod |
|---|---|---|
| Other game runs live | Yes | Yes |
| Walk into the other game | No | Yes |
| Shoot across worlds | No | Yes |
| Movable openings | No | Yes (Portal Gun) |
When you can play it
There is no public download yet. Dryxio plans to release the mod ahead of GTA 6, which is due November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. PC and Nintendo Switch 2 versions of GTA 6 still do not have a confirmed release date. To know when the portal mod is available, watch his GitHub page for a code drop.
Note: Because the mod runs three games at once, expect it to lean on your CPU and GPU harder than any single classic GTA on its own.
Until the release lands, the demo stands as a striking reminder of how far the community can push these two-decade-old engines. Rockstar has only ever teased this idea, most famously with the Saint Mark’s Bistro mission that briefly flies you from San Andreas to a small slice of Liberty City. Stringing all three PS2-era worlds together, and letting bullets travel between them, is a much bigger leap.
