Music in Enshrouded 1.0 is a collection you complete through two routes. You craft some instruments at the Bard, and you hunt the rest down across the world.
Quick answer: Five Music item sets pay 650 XP in total (all sets are in all 126 item sets and the XP each one gives). The Bard makes the basic instruments and the Handpan. The four Ornate instruments sit in the Nomad Highlands, and the four Exceptional ones sit in the Kindlewastes.
How the Music sets work
The Music category has five sets: Basic Instruments (75 XP), Rare Instruments (100 XP), Epic Instruments (125 XP), Handpans (175 XP) and Songs (175 XP). A set completes once you have owned every item in it.
The basic instruments and the Handpan are made by the Bard, Valory. Rescue her to unlock the Flute, Harp, and Lute recipes. The Hand Drum recipe becomes available only once you own a Hand Drum; your first comes from her quest “Hand Drum For The Bard”. The Handpan recipe unlocks when you own Iron Dust. No instrument recipe requires Water.
You can’t craft the Ornate (Rare) and Exceptional (Epic) instruments. Each one waits at a single fixed spot. An elite skeleton enemy carries the Ornate Hand Drum, so you have to defeat it to get the drum. Three of the Exceptional instruments are locked inside gold sarcophagus chests.
Every instrument also counts as Comfort furniture:
- Each basic instrument and the Handpan provides 1 Comfort.
- Ornate instruments give 2 Comfort.
- Exceptional instruments give 3 Comfort.
The Handpans set needs more than the crafted Handpan. You also have to find the Ornate Handpan and the Exceptional Handpan. The Songs set is made up of the 15 music sheets.
All locations below are given as a distance and compass direction from the nearest named map place. North is up, and distances are rounded to 10 m. “High above” means the spot is well over that place. “Well below” means it is far beneath it.

Instruments the Bard makes
Craft these five instruments at the Bard once each recipe is unlocked. Her full list is in all Bard, Collector and Fisher recipes.

The Flute takes a single Bones and is available as soon as Valory is rescued. The Handpan needs Steel Bars and Iron Dust.
Hand Drum For The Bard
The Hand Drum recipe stays locked until you hold a drum, so you need this quest first. The drum is a pick-up in Blackmire, about 120 m north-west of Treetop Vukah Settlement, high above it. The quest opens with this objective:
“The Bard wants you to retrieve the hand drum she lost while fleeing the Vukah. Reach their nearby settlement and have a look around!”
When you reach the settlement, the objective updates and tells you to climb the giant tree:
“You’ve reached the Vukah settlement by the giant tree. Climb to the top of the tree and search the settlement to find the lost hand drum!”
Picking up the drum gives you your first Hand Drum. The item reads: “A simple percussion instrument used to play music. The little chimes add a nice flair to any song.”
Handpan
It is the only crafted piece of the Handpans set. Its description reads: “A hang drum is a hand-played steel instrument whose gentle tones spread like ripples across still water.”
Ornate instrument locations in the Nomad Highlands
Collecting all four completes the Rare Instruments set for 100 XP. Three of them are simple pick-ups. The drum has to be taken from an enemy.

Ornate Hand Drum
Head below Myrtle Tombs to its south-west and defeat the elite skeleton that carries the drum. The item text: “A fine drum with a patterned leather cover, famously owned by Daniel the Damned, a former member of the Honeydews. Fans speculated that the back of the drum was inscribed with runes that would make Daniel play faster, like a possessed man. Now that you’re holding it, those rumors prove to be false — but his damnation was very real, at least!”
Ornate Flute
Look high above Surat’s Rest, to its east. The item text: “Miles Rapore’s old flute, used to decorate the soundscapes of The Honeydews’ many musical performances. He’s often credited with keeping the band together, but his reclusive attitude towards crowds and stringent focus on marketability earned him a bad reputation.”
Ornate Harp
The harp sits a short walk south of Vukah Outpost. The item text: “A heavenly instrument, previously owned by Harper Langley of The Honeydews. Its body has a beautiful carved pattern reminiscent of a mermaid’s fishtail, befitting Harper’s image as a siren.”
Ornate Lute
Go to Scavenger Outpost and head down, since the lute sits well below it. The item text: “An expertly crafted lute, originally owned by Chester Loft of The Honeydews — the most daring and lucky of the members. Fans also dubbed him “The Lucky Lute”. Despite his adventurous tastes, his good fortune always kept him and his lute out of trouble, so the quality and craftsmanship of the instrument are well preserved.”
Exceptional instrument locations in the Kindlewastes
All four complete the Epic Instruments set for 125 XP. Gold sarcophagus chests hold three of them, and the harp is a loose pick-up.

Exceptional Hand Drum
Find the gold sarcophagus chest about 140 m south-west of Draconian Vulture Nest, well below it. The item text: “An epic drum with finely painted blue lines on it. The pattern on top resembles a symmetrical star.”
Exceptional Flute
North of Sleeping Sands, the chest sits inside the Shroud. The item text: “A delicate flute, decorated with swift aquamarine brushstrokes that carry the tones forth like silvery winds.”
Exceptional Harp
The harp is a pick-up just south-east of Ocean’s Heart. The item text: “An outstanding harp with fine, silvery strings. The shape of the body and lightweight wood make this instrument perfect for learning to play the strings. Holding it makes you feel a bit melancholic.”
Exceptional Lute
The gold sarcophagus chest is about 370 m east of Ridgeback Mine. The item text: “A wonderful lute with carefully placed, playful decorative lines. They spring forth like joyful melodies on a sunny midyear day.”
Handpans and Songs
The Handpans set (175 XP) needs the crafted Handpan plus the Ornate Handpan and the Exceptional Handpan. The Songs set (175 XP) is the 15 music sheets; where each sheet is sits in all collectible locations.
