The Ranger in Enshrouded 1.0 is strongest when every point pushes one idea. The setup here is built around Explosive Arrows. These are fire-damage Special Arrows that hit an area, and Multi Shot can now copy them, so a single draw can put several explosions on a boss or a pack. The rest of the build adds stuns, bonus damage and a way to stay in the air while you shoot.

Quick answer: Buy Bow Specialization and Skill Shot, then Multi Shot, Multi Shot Spread and Multi Shot Trigger. Add Shrapnel Blast, Echoing Explosives and Shell Shock, and fire the highest Explosive Arrow tier you can craft.

Ranger build core skills and costs

There are no fixed classes in 1.0. The Ranger is one area of a single shared tree, and you can only buy a node that connects to one you already own. These are the nodes the build can’t work without. Costs are per rank.

SkillCostRanksWhat it does
Bow Specialization31Unlocks bow Special Abilities
Skill Shot13More weak-point damage
Multi Shot4120% Flurry chance on Regular Arrows
Multi Shot Spread3125% chance of a free extra arrow
Multi Shot Trigger31Special Arrows trigger the Flurry
Shrapnel Blast31+10% damage per target hit
Echoing Explosives4140% chance of a 50% damage echo
Shell Shock31Explosives stun for 2 seconds

Buying all of these at full rank costs 26 points. That doesn’t include the connecting nodes you pass through to reach them. Start at the top of the Ranger area with Bow Specialization and Skill Shot. Then work through the Multi Shot chain and finish with the two explosive passives beside Multi Shot Trigger. Shell Shock is on the far side of the Ranger area, among the assassin nodes.

The 1.0 tree omits Pyromaniac, Sharpshooter, Ricochets, and Rebound II; reassign points spent on them in older plans.

How Multi Shot and Explosive Arrows stack

Multi Shot affects Regular Arrows alone. A Regular Arrow has a 20 percent chance to produce a Flurry of Arrows, which fans out a little. By itself, the skill has no effect on Special Arrows such as Explosive Arrows.

Multi Shot Trigger fixes that. With it, shooting a Special Arrow also sets off the Flurry. Every Explosive Arrow in that Flurry is taken from your ammo stack, so expect to craft more. Multi Shot Spread adds a 25 percent chance of one more Regular Arrow joining the Flurry, and that arrow is free.

The two explosive passives scale with crowds. Shrapnel Blast raises an Explosive Arrow’s damage by 10 percent for each target it hits. Echoing Explosives gives every enemy hit a 40 percent chance to set off a second, smaller blast for 50 percent damage. A single arrow does fine against one boss. In a tight group, both passives trigger many times from one shot.

Shell Shock channels Mana into your ranged explosives, causing each affected enemy to be stunned for 2 seconds. Each enemy stunned consumes 8 Mana, so detonating a large blast in a packed room can drain a substantial amount. Explosive Arrows also make foes flinch; firing them continuously can keep a target pinned down.

Supporting Ranger nodes worth the points

Once the core is done, the best plan is to fill out the bow side of the Ranger area. These nodes cover damage, sustain and movement.

  • Marksman (1 point, 3 ranks): raises ranged damage and is a cheap early buy.
  • Ranger and Sniper (2 points, 3 ranks each): more bow scaling along the same path.
  • Fatal Precision (1 point, 3 ranks): supports critical hits.
  • Blessed Arrows (1 point, 3 ranks): bow critical hits restore 8 Mana per rank, which helps pay for Shell Shock.
  • Barrage (1 point, 3 ranks): each rank gives bow damage a 15% chance to replenish 1 durability on the bow.
  • Puncture (2 points, 3 ranks): raises ranged piercing damage, which helps when you switch to Bone Arrows.

Skill Shot is worth examining more closely. An arrow striking a weak spot—an enemy’s head, for instance—qualifies as a Skillshot. It deals 100 percent additional base damage to foes with no helmet, and 50 percent additional base damage to helmeted foes. Higher Skill Shot ranks boost both damage bonuses.

Bee Sting costs 3 points, and it is what makes the build work against swarms. Aiming or firing your bow in the air slows your fall, and each shot lifts you a little higher. It drains 10 Stamina per second. In practice, you jump when a group closes in, then keep firing Explosive Arrows down at them while they can’t reach you.

Arsonist is in the Mage area and costs 2 points per rank, with 3 ranks. It boosts fire damage, so it fits an Explosive Arrow build if you have points left after the bow side is finished.

Explosive Arrow tiers and backup ammunition

All three Explosive Arrow tiers are crafted under a roof at the Hunter, 25 at a time. Each recipe unlocks when you pick up its key material for the first time. Upgrade as soon as the next tier is available, because Multi Shot Trigger multiplies whatever arrow you have loaded.

Bone Arrow16 Blunt15Bones

Every arrow type stacks to 500. Blunt Arrows come from the Hunter, 50 per craft, and are useful against targets that resist fire. Bone Arrows are made at the Collector, also 50 per craft. They pierce through the first target to hit others behind it, so they pair well with Puncture.

The 1.0 update also added Eternal arrows that never run out and can be upgraded. Keep one in your loadout as an option that costs no ammo. The Explosive Arrow stack is still where most of this build’s damage comes from.

Bows, armor, rings and gems for the Explosive Arrow Ranger

Bow

Pick a fire bow to match the arrows. The Firefeather Bow adds fire damage, Health Leech and critical strike chance, plus extra ranks in Multi Shot, Multi Shot Spread and Eagle Eye. The Ignited Bow is a dependable fallback with fire damage, critical strike chance and bonus ranks in the same nodes.

If you’d rather focus on critical hits, the Amber Bow is a Legendary bow that scales from item level 1 to 55. It comes with Reaping 40, 5% Critical Strike Chance, 18% Critical Strike Damage, a 1-second draw and 33% faster arrows.

Armor and rings

Look for ranged damage and critical stats on every armor piece. For endgame, use the Ashwind Strider set from Cinder’s Cradle with Vorgoth’s Soulbound chest piece in place of the set’s chest. The Ashwind helmet adds ranged critical chance and critical damage, and the gloves add ranged damage. The legs and boots cover stamina and sprint speed. Vorgoth’s chest adds Bow damage, Health and Stamina. For rings, wear the Gemini Ring for Health Leech and the Ring of the Ancients for ranged damage and regeneration.

The Backpack tab shows the Wooden Arrow, a level 3 common Bow Ammo item with Damage 7 and Piercing 7, with 35 in the stack.

Gem of Burning

Gem of Burning is a Common weapon gem that works from item level 1 to 105. Fire damage sets the target on fire for 3 seconds, dealing 6 fire damage per second, and the gem then needs 5 seconds to recharge. Every Explosive Arrow deals fire damage, so the burn applies again as soon as the gem is ready.

Ranger skill point budget and respec cost in 1.0

The 1.0 tree has 243 nodes and 212 skill points in total. Leveling gives 2 points per level up to the level 50 cap, for 98 points. The other 114 come from exploration. Each of the 60 Shroud Roots gives 1 point, and each of the 18 Elixir Wells gives 3. If you want to finish the core early, hunt down Roots and Wells as you go.

Skill Point

The 1.0 launch reset every character’s skill tree and refunded all points, so existing characters can rebuild into this setup at no cost. Any later respec happens at a Flame Altar and costs 1 Rune for each spent skill point. The tree shows your new layout right away, and the next Explosive Arrow you fire will set off a Flurry if Multi Shot Trigger is active.
