Torn Cloth is one of the first materials Enshrouded makes you run out of. It’s a Common, item level 5 material that stacks to 250. The game describes it as leftover fabric that Scavengers have patched together into clothing. It goes into bandages, the Alchemist Apprentice armor set, several pieces of furniture, and the Ectoplasm chain. In 1.0, the most reliable source is a single enemy type, the Fell Defender.
Quick answer: Kill Fell Defenders in Shroud zones or at night, since Torn Cloth is a standard drop for them. Smash barrels, cloth bundles, and tents at Longkeep north of the Cinder Vault for a combat-light option.

Fell Defender Torn Cloth drops and spawn regions
Before 1.0, Fell Defenders were called Fell Footsoldiers. Both versions, Fell Defender I and Fell Defender II, list Torn Cloth among their regular drops alongside Shroud Particles, Shroud Relic, and Shroud Spores. It isn’t one of their chance-based extras. Those extras include rings of Health, Mana, and Stamina across every tier, Runes, Legendary Runes, the Fell Defender Shield, and the Rusty Short Sword.
Fell Defenders are also the most widespread humanoid Fell enemy in Embervale. The two variants share the same spawn spread.
| Region | Fell Defender spawn points |
|---|---|
| Springlands | 762 |
| Kindlewastes | 610 |
| Veilwater Basin | 532 |
| Albaneve Summits | 450 |
| Revelwood | 404 |
| Nomad Highlands | 227 |
| Cinder’s Cradle | 205 |
| Blackmire | 44 |
| Hollow Halls | 30 |
Springlands has the densest population, and it’s also where you start. That makes the starting region the best place to stock up early instead of waiting for later biomes. You’ll know a kill counted when you open the corpse and see Torn Cloth listed next to the Shroud Spores.

You don’t need to go deep into the fog to fill your first stack. Three spots near the Cinder Vault and the Beginner’s Base cover the first few hours.

Longkeep
Longkeep is a ruined settlement directly north of the Cinder Vault, and it’s generally the first town you pass through. Fell Defenders roam there. Barrels, baskets, and rope-wrapped cargo sit among the ruins beside wooden wagons. Smash the cargo with a melee weapon, axe, or pickaxe to get Torn Cloth, String, and Twigs. Other objects you can break may yield water, metal, logs, and plant fiber.

Rookmore
Rookmore sits farther north in the valley past Longkeep, west of Braelyn Bridge. It’s held by Scavengers, who usually leave at least one Torn Cloth when killed, though it isn’t certain every time. The town also has plenty of lootable nodes, so it doubles as a Metal Scraps run.
Scavenger Camp with a mineshaft
This camp sits in the hills west of the starting base quest location. Its Scavengers are low-level and weak to Frost damage, which makes it an easy loop for a Mage carrying a frost staff.
Scavengers keep showing up in later camps and abandoned towns. Wither Camp in northwest Springlands, Hill of Scavengers in north central Springlands, Mark of Sameth in the middle-left of Revelwood, and Glenwood’s End in northwest Revelwood all hold larger groups. Most of them appear on your quest path anyway.

Farming Torn Cloth in the Shroud and at night
Shroud zones pack in more Fell enemies than anywhere else, so they give the highest yield per minute. Elixir Wells are especially crowded. If you don’t want to enter the fog, Fell bands also patrol open ground after dark. From the Beginner’s Base, a short run south drops you straight into a shrouded camp full of Fell soldiers.

Fell Defenders aren’t the only enemies in the fog that carry cloth. These enemies can drop it too, though not on every kill:
- Fell Berserker
- Fell Knight
- Fell Ranger
- Fell Sporehead
- Hollow Mage, Hollow Reaper, and Hollow Soldier
The Shroud timer at the top of the screen keeps counting down while you’re inside, and you die when it hits zero. Step out to reset it, then head back in for the next pass.
Breakables and containers that drop Torn Cloth
Outside of combat, Torn Cloth turns up in props almost everywhere you explore. Most of it sits on lootable corpses and objects rather than out in the open. It’s worth checking each of these as you pass:

- Rope-wrapped cargo bundles and the backs of wagons
- Cloth tents in enemy camps
- Barrels, baskets, boxes, and vases
- Vases in Abandoned Towers and Vaults
- Items resting on shelves, tables, and other furniture
- Wooden chests in abandoned buildings, Towers, and Vaults
Tower and Vault vases scale with the area’s tier, so higher-tier vases also roll Copper Bars, Beeswax, and potions. Chests lean toward bandages and throwable explosives, with basic materials appearing less often. Breakables are the slowest method overall, but they’re nearly risk-free.
What Torn Cloth crafts in Enshrouded 1.0
Torn Cloth feeds about 20 recipes spread across nearly every craftsperson. That spread is why one stack never lasts long.
| Item | Crafted at |
|---|---|
| Manual crafting | |
| Hunter | |
| Alchemist Apprentice Hat, Chest, Gloves, Trousers, Boots | Alchemist |
| Blacksmith | |
| Workbench | |
| Cat Pillow, Dog Pillow | Farmer |
| Clay Pot I, Clay Pot II | Kiln |
| Blue and Cyan Decorative Box | Bard |
| Bard | |
| Carpenter | |
| Ectoplasm, Excellent Ectoplasm, Extraordinary Ectoplasm | Ectoplasm Press |
The Alchemist Apprentice set is the Mage’s starter armor. All five pieces are Uncommon, item level 5, and have to be crafted under a roof. The Chest has the largest numbers in the set, with 14 Magical Armor, 10 Physical Armor, and 24 Mana.

Adventurer Boots are the Warrior’s equivalent. They’re Rare, item level 10, and give 6 Health Regeneration. They require Flame level 3 or higher and a sheltered Blacksmith.

Cleaned Bandage is the upgraded bandage. It unlocks the first time you pick up Antiseptic, heals 6 percent per second, and stacks to 20. The Huntress crafts it under a roof.

Torn Cloth also stays useful later in the game through the Ectoplasm Press. Ectoplasm sits at item level 13, Excellent Ectoplasm at 25, and Extraordinary Ectoplasm at 40. Each tier unlocks the first time you pick up its matching fragment, crystal, or aggregate. Bank a full stack of 250 before that point and you won’t have to make a cloth run in the middle of a crafting session.
