Enshrouded 1.0: How to Level Up Fast and Where XP Comes From

In Enshrouded 1.0, your character can reach level 50 at most, with 2 skill points awarded each time you level up. XP gains depend heavily on the activity: a quest may grant thousands, whereas a pickaxe swing earns only a few points. To level quickly, focus on high-paying actions and repeat the ones that can be run in efficient loops.

Quick answer: Push quests to find new locations, awaken survivors, and complete item sets. Between those, fight enemies at or above your level, then mine dense ore at Mark of Sameth or the Kindlewastes iron vein.

Enshrouded XP sources and how much each pays

Six activities award XP: discovering locations, completing quests, finishing an item set, awakening survivors, defeating enemies, and mining. The ranges below show the amount given by one reward of each kind.

ActivityXP per rewardTypical reward
Quest reward5 to 3,20075 to 1,000
Completing an item set50 to 2,200200 to 1,500
Awakening a survivor1,400 (Blacksmith)One-time
Discovering a location25 to 1,000125 to 500
Mining4 to 128 to 10
Killing enemiesScaled by level gap0.1x to 1.9x

A small bar appears beneath the notice on the screen’s left whenever you gain XP, letting you check an action’s reward as soon as it happens.

Quests and Shroud Roots

Quests offer the broadest XP range. They also take you into new territory, bring you to survivors and lead to fights, letting those activities add XP alongside the quest payout. The Springlands’ first Elixir Well is a good example. When its boss falls, the objective changes to “Destroy The Shroud Root.” Breaking the root at the well’s bottom grants Quest reward XP +225 and brings up “NEW LOCATION CHARTED!”, placing a marker on your map.

Location discoveries

You rarely need to detour for discoveries, because quests walk you into them. Reaching the vault where the Blacksmith sleeps pays Location discovered XP +400 and updates the quest to “Find the Sleeping Survivor.” Ancient Spires, obelisks, Flame Shrines and named landmarks all count as discoverable places. Once you start revisiting familiar ground, this source dries up, so a fresh region pays best on your first few trips through it.

Survivors and item sets

Awakening a survivor gives one large, one-time reward. Approach the sleeping figure and use the “Awaken Survivor” prompt. The Blacksmith awards XP +1400 at once and unlocks the Metal Sheets at Forge recipe. Early in a save, that may be enough XP to gain a level by itself. After quests, completing an item set gives the largest single payout.

Combat XP and the level gap

Combat XP varies rather than having a set amount. An enemy above your level can award up to 1.9 times its base XP, while one below your level may give just one tenth. Defeating the Fell Thunderbrute, the Springlands’ first Elixir Well boss, grants Enemy slain XP +150. Farming weak mobs becomes less effective with each level, so take on enemies at your level or higher. Shroud Spore pods and bug swarms in the Shroud also give small rewards that accumulate during a full clear.

Mining XP

Mining pays the same per unit no matter your level, which makes it the one source that never shrinks. Only certain materials pay anything at all.

MaterialXP per unitWhere
Sulfur10Kindlewastes
Tin Ore10Nomad Highlands
Copper Ore9Revelwood
Fossilized Bone7Highlands bone piles
Clay4Revelwood cliffs

Stone, Dirt, Rubble, Mycelium and Luminous Growth pay nothing and still cost Stamina. Standard metal ores take around four swings per unit, while Sulfur drops one unit every swing. That makes softer deposits more efficient per Stamina bar than their XP value suggests.

Before a mining run, eat a cooked meal, get fully rested and drink water. Together they give you close to two full Stamina bars. Bring the highest-tier pickaxe you can craft so each swing yields more ore.

How to confirm a level-up and spend skill points

Each new level shows a “LEVEL UP!” badge with your new level number and the prompt “H Invest Skill Points.” Press H to open the Skills screen and spend the 2 points from that level. If you level next to a Flame Altar, the “Commune with the Flame” prompt also appears. That prompt lists what the next Flame Level costs, which for Flame Level 2 is Resin, Penny Bun, Bones, Shroud Liquid and Animal Fur at 5 each, plus 1 Spark.

Raise XP rates with custom world settings

On a world you own, you can turn up XP before farming anything. This is optional and suits solo players who want faster progression. Every location below works on default settings too.

From the world list, select your world and click Edit before loading it. This opens the world’s difficulty options.

Best XP farming locations in Enshrouded

The strongest spots combine dense ore with enemies, so you collect mining and combat XP in the same trip. All of them reward a Flame Altar placed nearby for quick fast travel.

The Flame tells the Flameborn that Embervale has fallen to the Shroud and calls on them to construct a Flame Altar.

Mark of Sameth (Revelwood copper mine)

Mark of Sameth is a large copper mine in the Revelwood with scavengers spread through its shafts. It works best around levels 10 to 13. With decent gear, the fights are manageable. Clear every enemy first, then strip every Copper Ore vein. A full pass pays thousands of XP and leaves you with a large copper stockpile.

You can stretch the run by approaching from the Revelwood Spire. Glide left toward the large cliffs, mine the Clay and Copper deposits there, then head west into the mine. A Repair Anvil sits at the back of the lower mine behind the rubble, so you can fix your pickaxe mid-run and keep going.

In a mine cave, the player is prompted to ‘Collect nearby loot’ while an enemy lurks beside a table, with a hint about using explosives on rubble.

Keep any Flame Altar you place outside the entrance far enough away that its area does not cover the ore veins or enemy spawns. Resources and enemies inside an altar’s area do not respawn.

Kindlewastes Iron Ore vein

Once you reach the Kindlewastes, a cave passage northwest of the Kindlewastes Ancient Spire holds an enormous Iron Ore vein right at its entrance. That one vein pays 3,000 to 6,000 XP, depending on your XP settings. The area has no Deadly Shroud, so you can mine it even before your Flame Level is upgraded.

Glide all the way across the chasm, turning slightly left while airborne. Look for a road leading to a mineshaft.

Kindlewastes Sulfur clusters

Sulfur shows up as bright yellow veins on cliffs and rock faces across the Kindlewastes, with reliable clusters east of the Kindlewastes Ancient Spire. At 10 XP per unit and one unit per swing, a single cluster can be emptied in seconds. Nothing is wasted either, since Sulfur is a crafting staple.

The Flint mineshaft suits early characters. Its scaffolding levels hold several large deposits. The Amber mound only opens up after you clear that Elixir Well, and two pickaxes are enough to mine it out completely.

Elixir Well and Shroud Root farming loop

An Elixir Well puts a boss, Shroud enemies, and a Shroud Root in the same run. Taking out Shroud Roots and clearing Elixir Wells is the quickest way to earn extra skill points. Bosses, roots, and mobs return after every 5 in-game days, so setting up several altars near wells lets you run the circuit again.

Upgrade your main Flame Altar to Altar Level 2 with Upgrade Altar. This raises the building area to 80×80×80 and allows 4 active altars.
Open the map and find Elixir Wells and Shroud Roots. Place a secondary Flame Altar near each one as a fast-travel point.
Fast travel to a well and glide down into the Shroud. Defeat the guardian boss, such as the Fell Thunderbrute.
Search the boss remains for Shroud Cores and gear. Drops can include weapons like the Tainted Axe.
Use an axe to chop down the glowing red Shroud Root. The quest reward and charted-location notice confirm that you’ve cleared it.
Sleep in a bed to skip nights. Each night passes in about 30 seconds, which shortens the 5-day wait before the next run.

The Tainted Axe is a Legendary one-handed Warrior axe with 11 Cutting damage at level 1, rising to 92 at level 55. It carries Critical Strike Chance 4% and Critical Strike Damage 12%, and swings every 0.6 s.

Where Fell enemies spawn most often

For combat loops, density matters. Fell Defenders are the most common Fell foe, and Fell Critters fill out most Shroud pockets. Their spawn point counts by region show where targets cluster.

RegionFell Defender spawnsFell Critter spawns
Springlands762319
Kindlewastes610140
Veilwater Basin53257
Albaneve Summits45090
Revelwood404164
Nomad Highlands22781
Cinder’s Cradle20547
Blackmire4420
Hollow Halls302

Raw counts are only half of it. The Springlands has the most spawns, but those enemies fall below your level quickly, and their XP drops toward one tenth. Later regions like the Kindlewastes and Veilwater Basin keep enemies closer to your level, where kills pay full value or better. Fell Commanders are also common there, with 75 spawn points in the Kindlewastes and 66 in Veilwater Basin.

How to respawn ore and enemies faster

You do not have to wait out the full cycle for mining spots. To force the giant Kindlewastes iron vein back, teleport at least 500 meters away and return to the main menu. Reload the world, travel back to the mine, and the whole vein is restored. Logging out and back in resets other favorite farms the same way, provided no altar’s area covers them.

Mining and combat loops work best as a supplement rather than the main engine. Quests, discoveries, survivors and item sets carry most of the climb to level 50. A Mark of Sameth clear or an iron vein run is the right move when you are a level short of a region, a skill, or the next Shroud Root. Every set and its reward is listed in all 126 item sets and the XP each one gives.
