Growing Stronger Together sends you after the Farmer, a sleeping survivor named Emily Fray, hidden inside the Ancient Vault – Farmer north of the Springlands. Recruiting her adds farming to your base and opens up the first wave of agricultural recipes. The Hunter, Athalan Skree, hands out the quest once she is settled at your camp.
Quick answer: Talk to Athalan Skree to start the quest, fast travel to Ancient Spire – Springlands, head north past Ferndale to the Ancient Vault – Farmer, press all three switches inside, glide across the lava to wake Emily Fray, then summon her at your base with the Summoning Staff.
Requirements before you can start Growing Stronger Together
The quest only appears after you have progressed far enough to have the Hunter at your base. Make sure the following are done first.
Complete Flame Altar And Base Improvements (1).
Complete Hunter Becomes The Hunted to rescue and summon the Hunter, Athalan Skree.
Have a Glider and a Grappling Hook, both needed to cross the vault’s interior.
Difficulty is rated Moderate. Completion grants the Farmer (Emily Fray) as a new survivor plus a batch of farming recipes, and the quest itself awards experience when you finish it.
Start the quest with Athalan Skree
Walk up to the Hunter at your base camp and open dialogue with her. Choose the “Surviving Together” option, and she tells you about another Ancient Vault that should hold a survivor able to grow crops and revive the land. Accepting this marks Ancient Vault – Farmer on your map.
Leap from the spire’s balcony and glide north across the landscape. You can grab the Flame Shrine along the way if you spot it, then follow the dirt road.
Continue on foot through the grassy hills and rocky ground. Wolves and the occasional Fell enemy appear on this stretch, but they are low level and easy to clear.
Pass through the ruined settlement of Ferndale. Reading the scroll in the western building here starts a separate side quest called Fortified if you want to pick it up.
From Ferndale, keep climbing the winding hill path north until the vault comes into view. Approach it from the south or south-east side, since the western face is blocked by a hill.
Sprint down the next corridor while dodging the lightning balls that fire across it. Time your movement between shots. At the far end, press the first button. This also switches off the lightning trap.
Go through the door, jump the lava gap, and climb the next mesh wall. At the end of this hall, head west across two grapple points. Make sure your stamina is full before you swing, since this is the first double-grapple crossing in the game. The second button is waiting on the other side.
Continue north through the opening and up the steps, then climb the exterior grate to the roof terrace. You can grab a small chest out on the balcony before turning back inside.
Head east into the spike-trap hallway. Time your run so the floor spikes are retracted, then press the third button at the end. This permanently disables the spikes.
After the third switch you arrive at the top floor of the main chamber. Open the door to the south for a chest before you drop down.
Glide down across the lava gap into the inner sanctum and reach the glowing pod. Interact with it to discover the soul of Emily Fray. You will see a “SOUL DISCOVERED! EMILY FRAY” prompt, and the Berry Bush Seedling recipe plus eight more unlock at the Seedbed.
Equip the Summoning Staff, select Emily Fray, and place her within the altar’s area. A blue placement outline shows a valid spot. Confirming her placement completes the quest.
How to confirm the quest is done and what you unlock
You know it worked when the “QUEST COMPLETED! Growing Stronger Together” message appears right after you place Emily Fray, and she greets you with a line about planting the seeds of a new world. The Farmer is now a permanent survivor at your base.
