Enshrouded: Hunter Becomes The Hunted Quest Walkthrough (All Steps)

Hunter Becomes The Hunted is a Flame quest in Enshrouded that recruits Athalan Skree, the Hunter, to your base. You travel to the Ancient Vault – Hunter, wake her soul inside, then summon her back home with a Summoning Staff. Completing it adds a craftsperson who builds ranger gear and unlocks new recipes.

Quick answer: Commune with the Flame to accept the quest, glide east past Braelyn Bridge to the Ancient Vault – Hunter, awaken Athalan Skree in the central pod, then fast travel home and place her with the Summoning Staff to finish.

Requirements before you start

The quest is handed to you by The Flame once you finish the Blacksmith quest The Ancient Spires. After that, a ! marker appears over your Flame Altar. Interacting with the altar triggers both Hunter Becomes The Hunted and Powerful Alchemy at the same time, placing a waypoint for each Ancient Vault on your world map.

You will need two tools before leaving. The Glider makes crossing the canyons on the way practical, and the Grappling Hook is used to cross a lava pit inside the vault and to reach the final puzzle switch. Bring a bow and arrows as well, since one of the switches can only be hit from range.

Travel to the Ancient Vault – Hunter

Commune with the Flame Altar at your base to accept the quest. Open the world map and set a waypoint on the Ancient Vault – Hunter marker, which sits east of Braelyn Bridge.

Head east toward the marker. The route crosses Braelyn Bridge and open grassy hills, with ravines you clear using the Glider. Fast traveling to a nearby Ancient Spire first and gliding down from it saves a long run.

Approach the stone stairs at the vault entrance. Enemies guard the exterior and courtyard, including melee attackers and ranged archers on the towers. Their attacks are slow and readable, so clear them from the stairs before heading inside.

Inside the corridors you will meet electric orbs and floor traps. They move quickly and hurt a lot on contact, so time your run and sprint straight through rather than trying to fight them.

Awaken Athalan Skree

Past the trap corridor you reach a lava pit. Use the Grappling Hook or Glider to cross to the far staircase, then climb up into the central hall where the Hunter rests. She sits in a glowing pod, the same way the Blacksmith did.

Interact with the pod to Awaken Survivor. You will see the SOUL DISCOVERED! ATHALAN SKREE notice, and the recipe for Dried Fur at the Drying Rack unlocks at the same moment. The quest step then updates to Summon The Hunter.

Solve the gold chest puzzle

Back near the entrance foyer there is a barred gate with three unlit rune lights above it. Lighting all three opens the gate to a golden chest that holds a gear reward. The puzzle is optional, but it is right on your path.

Keep your distance from the gate and use your bow to hit the glowing rune switch above the archway on the right. The first light will activate.

Enter the side room on the right and flip the wall lever inside it for the second light.

For the third switch, go to the top of the stairs by the braziers, jump off and grapple to the ceiling point, then climb the mesh wall to reach the upper tier. Flip the final wall switch there.

With all three runes lit, the gate opens. Loot the golden chest inside to claim its gear piece before heading back out across the lava pit.

Summon the Hunter at your base

Fast travel back to your base Flame Altar. Awakening Athalan Skree only finds her soul; she still has to be summoned to appear in the world.

Equip the Summoning Staff on your hotbar. If you do not have it on you, commune with the Flame and pull one from your storage, or craft one.

Choose Athalan Skree from the survivor list, then station her in the Flame-protected part of your base. As with the Blacksmith, a small room with a bed is useful; put her there.

How to confirm the quest is done

Placing Athalan Skree triggers the QUEST COMPLETED! Hunter Becomes The Hunted banner, and your base craftspeople count ticks up from 1/10 to 2/10. Speak to her to open her Craft menu and to pick up the follow-up objectives Finding Salt and Missing Bed. Her reward is the Hunter craftsperson herself, along with the Dried Fur recipe and the quest experience.

Her greeting lines confirm the recruit: “The world of the living calls me once more. I’m a huntress – I can help you survive. Let’s not squander our time.” Once she is talking to you, the quest is locked in and the next Flame quest, Powerful Alchemy, is ready in your journal.

Hunter gear and materials reference

Athalan Skree is a crafting station for ranger equipment and survival materials, with a large recipe pool once she is set up. The Scout Chest is the ranger chest tied to her shelter, and the fur and resin lines feed much of her early crafting. The Scout Chest is crafted under a roof once Athalan Skree has shelter, and it pairs with the rest of the Scout set she makes. Dried Fur is the step up from Animal Fur, becoming sturdier and lasting longer after it dries on the Drying Rack, which is exactly the recipe you picked up when you woke her. Keep stacks of Animal Fur and Resin on hand, since both sit at the base of many of her builds.
