Blizzard used its BlizzCon 2026 stage to confirm that Diablo 5 is real, targeting a 2029 launch, and to name the first playable classes fans will take into a broken Sanctuary. Three are locked in right now, and the studio says the final roster will be the biggest the series has ever shipped.
Quick answer: Three Diablo 5 classes are confirmed so far — the Demon Hunter, the Monk, and the brand-new Plague Knight. More are coming before the 2029 release.

Confirmed Diablo 5 classes
The reveal came during the Diablo 5: Forging the Next Era panel, and the details were later posted on Blizzard’s official site. Two of the three are returning fighters; one is entirely new to the franchise.
| Class | Status | Combat role |
|---|---|---|
| Demon Hunter | Returning | Ranged, twin crossbows |
| Monk | Returning | Melee martial arts, holy power |
| Plague Knight | New | Armored melee, disease |
Demon Hunter
The Demon Hunter is back after last leading a main-line game in Diablo 3. It keeps the identity players know: twin crossbows, high mobility, and attacks from the shadows. Blizzard showed the class leaping across the battlefield and pinning demons against walls, so expect the same fast ranged pressure the archetype is built around.
The full skill tree has not been shown, so it is too early to assume specific Diablo 3 abilities are returning unchanged.
Monk
The Monk also returns, a class that skipped Diablo 4 entirely. Part of its flavor went into the Spiritborn added in the Vessel of Hatred expansion, but the Monk itself is coming back as the dedicated close-range martial artist. It battles demons with fists and kicks while calling down holy power against enemies beyond punching range.
Its inclusion is a signal in itself. Blizzard is willing to revive classes that were absent from the last game rather than only carrying forward the most recent lineup.
Plague Knight
The Plague Knight is the first all-new class for the sequel. Blizzard describes it as “the embodiment of walking death.” It is heavily armored, roams the battlefield spreading disease and pestilence, and then consumes those afflictions to power itself up.
That spread-and-consume loop is the most original mechanic revealed so far. The complete ability list, resource system, and weapon options have not been detailed yet.

How big will the Diablo 5 roster be
Blizzard says Diablo 5 will launch with more classes than any previous Diablo game. During the panel the team clarified that this does not just mean more than another entry had on its release day. The goal is more than earlier games have offered in total.
No exact number has been given, so any specific count of eight, nine, or ten is guesswork. The three revealed classes already fill very different spaces, which is the point: ranged agility, martial holy combat, and armored disease control.
Are Barbarian, Sorcerer, or Necromancer confirmed?
No. Series staples such as the Barbarian, Sorcerer, and Necromancer are obvious candidates, but none of them was part of this reveal. The same goes for Crusader, Witch Doctor, Rogue, and Spiritborn. Their history makes them likely, not confirmed.
Blizzard has also confirmed that the Plague Knight is not the end of the new-class ideas, leaving room for more original archetypes alongside returning favorites.

When Blizzard will reveal more
Diablo 5 is in early development and aimed at a 2029 launch. Blizzard has said regular development updates will begin in 2027, covering classes, progression, combat, and build options as the game takes shape.
The sequel picks up after Diablo 4, with Sanctuary fallen and its heroes defeated. Its itemization is drawing directly from Diablo 2, including larger items that take up more inventory space, which puts more weight on inventory management. Until then, Demon Hunter, Monk, and Plague Knight are the only names to plan around, and Blizzard has been clear that this trio is a small slice of the final lineup. You can follow future reveals on the official Diablo 5 site.
