FC 26 Bar Down Brilliance: How to Score off the Woodwork Fast

Force a penalty in Friendlies, aim into the far post, and turn the random woodwork goal into a repeatable one.

Force a penalty in Friendlies, aim into the far post, and turn the random woodwork goal into a repeatable one.

Bar Down Brilliance sits inside the Germany + France objective in FC 26, and it asks for one of the more frustrating actions in the game: scoring a goal that goes in off the woodwork. It is one of the tasks standing between you and the full Journey of Nations: Europe reward, which ends with the 97-rated Maradona. The condition itself is short, but leaving it to chance can eat up hours.

Quick answer: Start a Friendlies match, win a penalty for yourself using a German or French player, aim to the far corner with the shot circle stopped small, and let the ball ricochet in off the inside of the post.

What Bar Down Brilliance requires

The task completes the moment you score a goal that hits the frame of the goal first and then crosses the line. The shot has to be taken by a German or French player, and it counts in any FUT game mode. That last part is the loophole worth using, because you do not need to grind it in a competitive match where losing matters.

Why the penalty method works

Hitting the woodwork in open play is easy. Getting the ball to bounce off the post and still go in is not, because most rebounds either fly wide or spin back into play. A penalty removes the defenders, the goalkeeper animation, and the timing pressure, so you can repeat the exact same shot until the ball catches the inside of the post and drops in.

Friendlies is the cleanest place to do this. With a second controller or a friend in the match, you control both sides, which means you can manufacture a penalty on demand rather than waiting for one.

How to set up and score the woodwork goal

Load into a Friendlies match with a squad that includes at least one German or French player, ideally with a strong penalty attribute. A good penalty rating makes the shot circle steadier and easier to control.
Bring in a second player. Connect a second controller and use Couch Play, or invite a friend so you have control over the opposing side and can create the penalty yourself.
Win a penalty. Deliberately commit a foul inside the box with the second controller, or ask your friend to do so, so the spot kick goes your way.
Line up the penalty with your German or French player and push the left stick fully to one side, roughly 90 degrees left or right. You are aiming as far into the corner as the shot allows, right against the post.
Stop the shrinking circle just before it fully disappears so it stays small. That keeps the shot slightly off perfect but still on target, which is what nudges the ball onto the inside of the post instead of straight into the net.
Take the shot and watch for the ricochet. If the ball clips the post and rolls in, the task registers. If it flies wide, reset and take another penalty using the same aim and timing.

How to confirm it counted and why it sometimes fails

You will see the Bar Down Brilliance objective tick over to complete as soon as a qualifying goal is scored. If it does not update, the most common reason is the ball missed the frame entirely or sailed outside the goal after the deflection, which does not count. The other trap is taking the shot with a player who is neither German nor French, so double-check the scorer’s nationality before you shoot.

Expect a few misses even with perfect setup. The ball can rattle the post and stay out, so treat each penalty as a low-cost attempt and keep firing until one drops. Once it does, you are clear to move through the rest of the Europe set, which also hands out a special Gerd Müller item on the way to Maradona.
