Marriage and children arrived with the full 1.0 release of Fields of Mistria on August 5, 2026, and getting there takes real preparation. You have to max out a relationship, finish a specific story quest, and gather deep-mine materials before you can even craft a ring. Children come later, and only after the wedding.
Quick answer: Reach 10 hearts with a romance candidate, complete The Dragonsworn Tablet story quest, craft the Engagement Ring at a forge, propose, and hold the wedding. A few in-game weeks later the Great Bird gives you a Mystical Feather, which you use to start a family planning conversation with your spouse.
Requirements before you can propose
Two things must be true before the ring is even available. First, you need to reach the final heart level with your chosen partner. Second, you need to finish The Dragonsworn Tablet story quest, because it unlocks the recipe for a key ring material.
There are 12 marriage candidates, and there are no gender restrictions. You raise hearts by giving gifts they like, going on dates, and chatting with them daily. Dates raise hearts faster in 1.0, so lean on them. Villagers reach the romance fork at 8 hearts, where you choose dating over the best-friend route, then you push on to 10. Caldarus is the exception and offers the romance option earlier, at 6 hearts, once you complete “Breaking The Final Seal.”
The morning after you hit 10 hearts, Elsie visits your farm and hands over the Engagement Ring blueprints. That mail is your signal that the crafting step is now open.

You need a forge to make the ring, and the materials sit deep in the mines. The hardest piece is the Dragon-Forged Core, which is itself a crafted item made from several rare drops. Plan a few mining runs before you attempt this.

The ring itself requires the following four materials.
| Material | Where to get it |
|---|---|
| Dragon-Forged Core | Finish The Dragonsworn Tablet story quest to unlock the recipe, then craft it at the Dragon Forge at mine level 90. |
| Diamond | Buy from Balor’s Wagon, or mine the lava floors (61-79). |
| Mistril Ingot | Gather ore on the ancient ruins floors (81-99) and smelt it at a forge. |
| Gold Ingot | Gather ore on the lava floors (61-79) and smelt it at a forge. |
To build the Dragon-Forged Core, collect these five components first.
| Component | Where to get it |
|---|---|
| Monster Core | Defeat Enchantern and Flame Spirit enemies in the mines. |
| Mistril Ingot | Smelt ore from the ancient ruins floors (81-99) at a forge. |
| Pink diamond | Mine the ancient ruins floors (81-99), or buy from Balor’s Wagon when available. |
| Ancient firefly | Catch it on the ancient ruins floors (81-99). |
| Medium Essence Stone | Drops from enemies, or craft it at The Stone Refinery in the mines. |

Proposing and holding the wedding

Note: Marriage is limited to one person. When you get engaged, everyone else you were dating drops to Best Friends, unless you toggle the option that disables this in the settings before you confirm. If you want other candidates’ 10-heart Special Items, trigger those events before you become engaged, because that door closes afterward.
How to have a child
Children are gated behind marriage, and there is no house upgrade or nursery requirement. After the wedding, keep playing normally. A few in-game weeks later, the Great Bird visits you in a dream and brings up children, then gives you a Mystical Feather. For reference, one player married on Summer 19 and the Great Bird arrived on Fall 5.

The Mystical Feather is the item you use to start a family planning conversation with your spouse. Like the proposal, this is a choice rather than something forced on you, so you can decline and discuss it again later.

If you agree, there are a couple of delivery routes. The Great Bird can bring the baby to you, or you can carry the baby yourself. Agreeing to have a child also unlocks the “Parent” achievement.

If you carry the pregnancy, you wait half a season for the child to be born, and the delivery day is marked on the calendar. Once the baby arrives, they can stay with your partner or ride on your back as you move around, and a Baby Cradle is sent to your house for the baby to sleep in.

Marriage and family achievements
Three achievements track the full relationship chain, and they unlock retroactively, so an existing save gets credit for anything you have already done. Best Friend and Romantic are the two halves of the 8-heart fork, so you can collect both across different characters in the same save.
| Achievement | How to unlock |
|---|---|
| Best Friend | Reach eight hearts with any villager and choose the best-friend route. |
| Romantic | Reach eight hearts with a romanceable villager and choose to start dating. |
| True Love | Reach ten hearts with a romanceable villager you are dating. |
| I do! | Get married. |
| Parent | Have a child. |
| Time Flies | Reach your child’s first birthday. |
Existing farms carry over completely, so a Year 3 or 4 save can date, marry, and have a child right away without starting over. The bottleneck is almost always the ring materials, so the fastest path to a wedding is finishing The Dragonsworn Tablet quest and stockpiling ancient ruins ore before you hit that final heart.
