Where all 21 jobs land for endgame Final Fantasy XIV content, sorted by role for Patch 7.55.

Every job in Final Fantasy XIV can clear every piece of content, and Square Enix keeps the roster close enough that no pick will sink a group on its own. Still, when you are pushing into Savage, Ultimate, or other tuned fights, a handful of jobs bring more damage, more utility, or a smoother path to consistent output. That gap is what a ranking is for, and it is worth knowing before you sink hours into a new job stone.

Quick answer: In Patch 7.55, Warrior leads tanks; Sage and Scholar top healers; and Samurai, Pictomancer, Black Mage, Machinist, and Reaper sit at the front of the DPS pack.

How these jobs were ranked

Three things decide where a job lands: raw damage output, the utility it hands the rest of the party, and how hard it is to play well under pressure. A job that posts huge numbers but demands frame-perfect execution can still fall behind a simpler kit that delivers the same result with less risk. This ranking reflects the Patch 7.55 balance, and it is a guide, not a rulebook. If you love a job that sits lower here, keep playing it, because a well-played B-tier pick beats a fumbled S-tier one in every pull that counts.

SWarrior
ADark Knight, Paladin
BGunbreaker

Warrior is the clear king of tanks right now. It is not the best raid tank in every situation, but it is the most reliable option in nearly every dungeon, thanks to unmatched cooldowns and strong self-sustain. No matter the pull, it stays consistent. Its only real shortcoming is damage, since it does not hit as hard as a well-piloted Dark Knight.

Dark Knight earns its A-tier slot with higher damage ceilings, but it asks for precision and real class knowledge to get there. Paladin is the middle-of-the-road pick, solid and never the worst choice, yet rarely the best. Gunbreaker can push out impressive damage and remains a capable tank, but the skill required to play it at a high level is steep, which is what drops it to B for now.

Healer tier list for Patch 7.55

TierJobs
SSage, Scholar
A+White Mage, Astrologian

The spread between healers is thin, so treat these placements as leanings rather than hard walls. Sage and Scholar are the barrier healers, and their strength is prevention. A strong enough shield stops big heals from being necessary in the first place, which is exactly what high-end raid content rewards. Scholar in particular pulls real weight in the toughest fights.

White Mage and Astrologian are the pure healers, leaning on direct healing output over shields. Neither is a bad choice, and both clear everything the game throws at them. The difference comes down to preference: if you like reacting with big heals, the A+ pair fits, while barrier fans will gravitate to the S-tier duo. There is genuinely no dead weight in this role.

DPS tier list for Patch 7.55

TierJobs
SSamurai, Pictomancer, Black Mage, Machinist, Reaper
AViper, Dragoon, Bard, Red Mage, Dancer
BNinja, Monk, Summoner

The S-tier DPS jobs share one thing: big, satisfying burst windows that would sit near the top of any damage chart. They are also relatively forgiving to play for the power they deliver. Pictomancer is arguably the strongest DPS in the game, with Black Mage close behind, while Samurai exists to chain combos and dump damage with a clean, readable rotation.

The A-tier jobs miss the very top of the damage curve but stay fully viable, and most are easy to learn. Red Mage, Bard, and Dancer in particular have straightforward, low-friction gameplay that makes them dependable in a static. Viper and Dragoon bring strong burst without the same headline numbers as the S-tier crowd.

Ninja, Monk, and Summoner round out the bottom. Summoner is fun and perfectly decent, but its burst window does not carry the same weight as better-equipped jobs. Ninja and Monk lean toward clunky, demanding play that drags them down in practice more than their ceilings suggest.

One of the best parts of Final Fantasy XIV is that you never need an alt to try something new. Every job lives on a single character, so switching is cheap and low-commitment. A bigger shake-up is on the horizon with the Evercold expansion and its new combat system, which is set to make several of these jobs easier to pick up, but that is still several months out and does not change where things stand today. For now, use this ranking as a nudge, then play the job you actually want to log in for.
