Fortune’s Weave has no fishing minigame, but fish are still scattered across the world map and worth grabbing as you travel. Every species is tied to specific Search spots, so the trick is matching the fish you need to a fishing ground that can actually produce it before you spend turns getting there.
Quick answer: Fish come in three tiers — Common, Rare, and Very Rare. Find your target below, travel to any listed Search spot, and save Rare or Very Rare hunts for Spring Tide days, which raise the appearance rate.
How to find and identify fish
Use Search at fishing locations throughout the world map to catch fish. The result is random, with the location’s appearance rate affecting what you find. In the world map menu, hover over a location to see its name, region, and associated fish in the upper corner; check these details to verify your destination before traveling.
The fish symbol indicates its rarity: blue with no stars means Common, light-blue with one star means Rare, and teal with two stars means Very Rare. Dungeon fishing spots aren’t displayed on the world map, unlike stone deposits.
Spring Tide days, shown on the Calendar, bring Rare and Very Rare fish much more frequently. When a quest calls for one of these species, time your trip to arrive on a Spring Tide day and save some travel turns, as landing a rare catch may require several tries.
Common fish locations
These are the easiest catches and cover most cooking and everyday request needs. The Danann Sea, the Lir Sea, and Amalthea’s bridges and lakes carry the widest spread.

Rare (one-star) fish locations
One-star fish appear at fewer spots, so their odds jump on Spring Tide days. Lake Baldr in Pasithea is the standout stop, holding three of them at once. Garla Marlin is the most forgiving to gather since it turns up across several coastal regions.

Very Rare (two-star) fish locations
Two-star fish each appear at only one or two Search spots, which makes Spring Tide almost essential when you are chasing a specific one. Note that similarly named catches are separate fish with separate spots, so check the exact species a request wants. A Ladon Loach, a Ladon Pike, and a Queen Loach do not share a location.

The Paradise Fish is worth singling out. Beyond cooking, it is handed over to recruit Ninae, so plan a dedicated Spring Tide run for it if you want her on your roster.
Buying fish and opening crates
Not every fish has to be caught. A handful are stocked at the Port of Pandora market in Castalia, which is the fastest way to grab a Grady Goby, Lir Fish, Golden Trout, or Rahlan without a fishing trip.
You can also pick up fish by opening Fish Crates, and Washed-Up Crates found in the Danann Sea and at Elektra’s Peluza Cape can drop fish too. A couple of species sit outside the standard tier tables — Moonfish turns up at Kothar Lake in Amalthea and Zorto Lake in Lambath if you spot one while searching those waters.
What fish are used for
Fish earn their storage space in several ways, so keeping a varied stock cuts down on repeat expeditions.
- Cooking at Feasts on the world map and at Rest Spots inside dungeons, where they recover HP for the units on your journey.
- Filling requests, which often name a specific species — having one already stored saves a return trip.
- Feeding mounts to raise their Bond Level on Cai’s route, since different mounts prefer different flavors.
- Trading with the Vandahl Trading Co. in Dagsion and its traveling vendors for weapons and items.
- Recruiting characters and unlocking classes, as with the Paradise Fish needed for Ninae.
When cooking, only add enough fish to fully heal your party so you don’t burn through rare catches you were saving for a request. Grab whatever appears while you’re passing through a region, and you’ll rarely need to make a special detour outside of hunting a specific two-star fish.
