Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave – How to Get Through the Wandering Wood

The Wandering Wood is a looping forest dungeon in the Saveilion region of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. It holds no enemies, just one treasure chest and a hidden exit, but every room throws you back to the entrance if you pick the wrong path. The trick is reading the environment instead of trusting your sense of direction.

Quick answer: On Cai, Dietrich, and Leda’s paths, take the exit closest to the single blue butterfly in each room. On Theodora’s path, follow the exits by butterfly count in the order 1-3-2-1-3.

How the Wandering Wood maze works

Each room opens onto three exits beyond the way you entered, and they all look nearly identical. Walking through the wrong one fades the screen and resets you to the start of the dungeon with no combat penalty. Because the rooms repeat, memorizing a fixed direction will not work. The correct exit can even shift each time you enter, so you have to read the clue every single room.

The Wandering Wood carries an Uncharted marker, meaning it has a second exit. Reaching the far end opens a new route along the southern edge of the map, which cuts travel time on later trips.

Cai, Dietrich, and Leda: follow the blue butterfly

On these three routes the dungeon is optional, and the solution is the same for all of them. A single glowing blue butterfly hovers in front of one exit in every room, and that exit is always the correct one.

Enter the first room and look past the large central tree. Find the blue butterfly circling one of the three exits.
Walk through the exit closest to the butterfly. You will move to the next, near-identical room instead of resetting.
Repeat this for three rooms total. After the third correct choice, you reach a clearing that looks different from the rest, with a treasure chest on the right that you cannot miss.
Open the chest for the Verdant Gem, then keep following the butterfly through two more rooms until you reach the exit marked “Head out.”

If you prefer exact inputs over spotting the butterfly, the confirmed directional paths line up as follows.

Theodora’s path: solve the butterfly count

Theodora’s route works differently: completing it is mandatory for the Chapter 8 main quest. Instead of following a single butterfly, check each exit for its butterfly count and choose the exits in the required order.

Bonaventure’s clue reads, “Lights move around us: from I to thee, then too, from I to thee.” Sound out the words: I means one, thee means three, and too means two. This gives the sequence 1-3-2-1-3, directing you west, east, west, west, then east.

  • Take the path with 1 butterfly.
  • Take the path with 3 butterflies.
  • Take the path with 2 butterflies.
  • Take the path with 1 butterfly.
  • Take the path with 3 butterflies.

After the fifth path, you reach the exit, and Theodora’s story continues.

Verdant Gem reward

The dungeon’s single chest holds the Verdant Gem, an accessory built around evasion. When a unit uses a combat art, it grants Avo+20 during combat with a 30% chance to trigger, and it carries a Weight of 5. That makes it a strong pick for characters with low Speed who need help dodging.

Where to find the Wandering Wood

The Wandering Wood sits in the south of the map, in the Saveilion region below Dagsion and just south of Callisto Posthouse. It is a long trip on foot, so save it for a chapter with plenty of Free Time turns left. If you have unlocked it, taking a carriage to Callisto Posthouse gets you there much faster.

Beyond the chest, the dungeon is a source of Venomstone and Spellshard ore for weapon crafting. You will know you have finished when the “Head out” prompt appears and returns you to the world map, with the new southern route now open for future travel.
