Fisch: How the Crested Relic Changes the Tryhard Rod

The Tryhard Rod has always been a trade: absurd luck, a 10× mutation on every catch, and a control stat so bad the reeling bar is barely visible. The Crested Relic, added alongside Skycrest, attacks that problem from the other direction. Instead of widening your bar, the Crested enchantment slows the fish down.

Quick answer: Apply a Crested Relic at an Enchant Altar to roll the Crested enchantment, which notably slows hooked fish. If the rod currently has Keeperbound active, you must deactivate it at the Keeper Warden first, or the new enchantment will not stick.

What the Crested enchantment does

The enchantment description is short and literal: hooked fish are notably slowed. That matters more on this rod than almost any other, because the Tryhard Rod’s -0.37 control leaves you with a sliver of a bar. A slower fish means fewer sudden direction changes to chase, so the sliver becomes manageable without stacking control enchants.

It does not touch the rod’s base numbers. Luck, lure speed, resilience, and the +300% progress speed split all stay where they are — Crested only changes how the fish behaves during the minigame.

How to put Crested on the Tryhard Rod

Check the rod’s current enchantment slots. A Keeperbound setup will typically be running something like Magnitude Might plus Sanctified, and Keeperbound locks those in place.

Visit the Keeper Warden and deactivate Keeperbound. Until that is switched off, the rod will not accept a new roll, and the altar will simply refuse the relic.

Take the rod to an Enchant Altar and use the Crested Relic. The slot you are overwriting is the one that is not providing your control, so Sanctified is the usual casualty rather than Magnitude Might.

Confirm it worked by reading the enchantment tooltip on the rod. It should list Crested with the line about hooked fish being notably slowed, and the difference is obvious on your first cast — the fish drifts instead of darting.

A 13-minute session in the Drylands with a fully buffed setup produced 151 fish that sold for 14,773,716 C$. The Tryhard mutation applying to every single catch is what carries those numbers; Crested just keeps the catch rate high by removing most of the failed reels.

Catching the Olympian Devil with Crested

The rod also landed a Big Tryhard Olympian Devil weighing 1,827,839.3kg, on the second attempt. That is the practical ceiling test for this setup — a fish that normally punishes the Tryhard Rod’s negative resilience becomes catchable once its movement is dulled.

Note: a failed first try is normal here. Crested reduces fish speed, it does not freeze movement or add resilience, so a bad opening sequence can still break the line.

The Crested Relic does not work on the Sovereign Pillar

Feeding a Crested Relic to the Sovereign Pillar gets you nowhere. The pillar only accepts a Quest Relic or a Limited Relic, and Crested counts as neither, so the prompt just repeats the requirement and rejects the offering. Save the relic for the altar.

Where to get Crested Relics

There are two routes. The guaranteed one is Skycrest Island itself — the main quest and the side quests on the island hand them out. After that, they come from general grinding and fishing, which is slow unless you are running a rod with the Scavenger enchantment to pull extra drops while you fish.

The Tryhard Rod has spent a long stretch bouncing between builds as the game rebalanced around it — the Peppermint route was nerfed, stabs from outside sources had their progress cut by 75% and lost their stun, and Keeperbound setups leaned on Magnitude Might plus Sanctified to stay usable. Crested is a simpler answer than any of those: make the fish slower, and the rod’s terrible control stops mattering quite so much.
