Fisch: How to Get the Comet Companion

Stardust Candy from Meteor Maniac Matthew is the only way to tame Comet beside a fallen star.

Stardust Candy from Meteor Maniac Matthew is the only way to tame Comet beside a fallen star.

Comet arrived with the Astral Observatory update on August 22, 2026, and it is one of the few companions in Fisch that no vendor will ever sell you. It floats above your head as a dark, spiky little celestial body with big glowing eyes, and the only way to claim it is to catch it out in the world next to a fallen star with the right treat in your bag.

Quick answer: Complete Meteor Maniac Matthew’s first quest in Northern Expedition to receive Stardust Candy, then find Comet floating beside a fallen star during a Starfall and press E on the Offer Stardust Candy prompt.

Comet unlock requirements in Fisch

Everything below feeds Matthew’s quest except the fallen star itself, which is where the actual taming happens. Line all of it up before you go hunting, because walking up to Comet without Stardust Candy gives you no prompt at all.

RequirementWhere it comes from
Meteor Maniac MatthewNorthern Expedition, on the raised platform near the Frigid Cavern camp
1x Cosmic RelicBreak a Fallen Star with a pickaxe during a Starfall
1x MoonstoneMeteors and Meteor Totems, an Ancient Isle asteroid, the Personal Aquarium, or the Daily Shop
1x Solarblaze or Nova Frozen WalnutFish Overgrowth Caves for a Frozen Walnut carrying either mutation

Note: a plain Frozen Walnut does not count. The quest only accepts the Solarblaze or Nova mutation, which come from the Wicked Fang Rod and the Rod of the Singularity respectively. You need one or the other, never both.

Get Stardust Candy from Meteor Maniac Matthew

Spawn a boat at Moosewood Village and sail straight out to the portal that leads to Northern Expedition. Once through, head for the snowy camp where the Avalanche Rod and Pickaxe are sold.
Climb the ladders on the three-tier platform just above that camp. Meteor Maniac Matthew stands at the top, near the Frigid Cavern side of the area. Talk to him and accept his first objective, Anomaly Investigation (SPACE CANDY).

Collect the three items. Smash a Fallen Star with a pickaxe during a Starfall for the Cosmic Relic, pull a Moonstone from a meteor or an Ancient Isle asteroid, and fish Overgrowth Caves until a Frozen Walnut shows up with the Solarblaze or Nova mutation attached.
Return to Matthew and hand everything in. He gives you a single Stardust Candy, which sits in your inventory until you use it. Completing the quest also kicks off a falling star event, so you often get a fresh set of craters to search straight away.

Find Comet at a fallen star and tame it

Comet is a roaming world encounter. It hovers near fallen stars scattered around the map, and its appearance at any given crater is random, so an empty impact site is normal rather than a sign that something broke.

Travel to an active fallen star during a Starfall and look around the crater for a small floating body with white spikes and glowing eyes.
If nothing is hovering there, move on to another active starfall spot instead of waiting. Rotating between craters is far faster than camping one.
When Comet appears, walk right up to it with the Stardust Candy still in your inventory and press E on the Offer Stardust Candy prompt.

How to confirm Comet was unlocked

The tame is confirmed by an on-screen popup reading Companion Unlocked: [Comet], and the companion drops straight onto your character’s head. From that point it lives permanently in your Companion Satchel, so you do not need a second Stardust Candy.

If no popup appears, the offer never went through. Three things account for almost every failed attempt.

  • No Stardust Candy in your inventory, which means no offer prompt spawns at all.
  • Confusing Companion Candy with Stardust Candy. Companion Candy only feeds companions XP and will not trigger the tame.
  • Searching shops. There is no NPC stock or vendor listing for Comet, so browsing merchants is wasted time.

Equip Comet and what Astralux does

The Companion Satchel unlocks at Level 30. Open it with the C key, select Comet, and equip it. Only one companion can be active at a time, so Comet takes the slot from whatever you were running before.

Equipped, Comet grants the passive Astralux effect. Its description calls it a hyper celestial entity that hovers over your head and guarantees daily star showers, and in practice it raises the server-wide chance of rare meteor and Starfall drops. That means the boost helps everyone fishing on your server, not only you, which makes it worth keeping on while you farm astral materials.

The only real cost here is patience with the random spawn. Once the quest is done and the candy is in your bag, the unlock is a matter of checking craters until the right one has something floating over it.
