The Silly Seal is a feeding companion in Fisch that lives on the floating ice around Northern Summit, inside the Northern Expedition region. You tame it by offering a high-rarity fish while a wild seal is close enough to approach you, and it joins your roster once it accepts the gift.

Quick answer: Sail to Northern Summit in Northern Expedition, hold a fish of Legendary rarity or higher, walk up to a seal on an ice floe, and press E to feed it until it accepts.

What you need before you start

The seal will not accept just any catch. Bring a fish rated Legendary or above, since higher rarities noticeably improve your chance of taming on each attempt. Mythic-tier catches such as a Bluefin Tuna, Sunfish, or Solstice Ray all work well.

  • A fish of Legendary rarity or higher ready in your inventory.
  • Access to Northern Expedition and its Northern Summit area.
  • Level 30 or above, which unlocks the Companion Satchel (press C to open it).

Exotic and Divine Secret fish cannot be used to tame the seal, so keep those out of your offering slot.

Taming the Silly Seal at Northern Summit

Travel across the ocean to the Northern Expedition zone and steer toward the waypoint labeled Northern Summit. The route runs through open water past markers like Ancient Isle, so follow the Northern Summit label on the horizon until you reach the icy sector.

Arrive at the frozen waters and scan the small broken ice platforms drifting around the island. Wild Silly Seals slide and rest on these floes, so move slowly and look for a white seal on or beside the ice.

Open your fish inventory and equip your Legendary or higher fish so you are holding it as you approach. The seal must come to you first, so close the distance carefully instead of rushing it.

When the Feed [E] prompt appears, press E to offer the fish. The seal may eat it without joining right away, showing a message that it isn’t ready to come with you yet, so keep feeding until it accepts.

Confirming the unlock and the 5-minute cooldown

Taming is complete when the screen displays “Success! The Silly Seal took your offer to heart!” followed by “[Companion Unlocked: Silly Seal]”. The seal will then follow your character.

If the seal gets startled, it runs off with the message “The seal got scared and ran away…”. You then wait roughly 5 minutes before trying that spot again, or you can move on and approach a different seal immediately. Using higher-rarity fish reduces how often this happens.

Equip the Silly Seal from the Companions menu

Press C to open the Companion Satchel, then scroll to the Companions list and select the Silly Seal. Choosing it equips the companion so it walks with you; the card shows “Equipped” once it is active.

How the Silly Seal’s hunger and progress ability works

The Silly Seal helps most when catching Progress Locked Fish, because its passive lowers the time a catch takes. The catch is that its ability only runs while its Hunger stays high, and you keep Hunger up by feeding it fish.

Each fish you feed raises Hunger by a set amount based on rarity. The seal has 120 maximum Hunger and cannot be fed once it is above 110. Feeding applies a 1× Hunger multiplier, rising to 2× when the companion is at max level, and Hunger drains over a maximum of 420 seconds (1500 seconds at max level).

While Hunger sits above 60, the seal grants +8% Progress every 1.5 to 3 seconds. There is also a 10% chance on each tick that it steals the fish instead, ending the catch and granting double Hunger value, though it cannot steal Mythical or rarer fish. It gives no Progress when you are catching a Divine Secret fish or the Redlip Batfish, and it cannot be fed Divine Secret fish at all.

With the seal tamed and equipped, keep a steady supply of fish on hand to hold its Hunger above 60 whenever you plan to chase a Progress Locked catch. That is when its speed boost actually pays off, and it is why this companion fits best as a fishing helper rather than a constant follower.
