Mastery only appears once you own the rod. The Stellarwave Melody comes from Lyren, an NPC found in a side room at Boreal Hollow during a Celestial Congregation event. If you still need the rod, finish Lyren’s questline first through the Astral Observatory route.
After obtaining the rod, equip it and open the mastery or progression screen. Use the six missions as your checklist, and keep the rod equipped so its counters advance.

Track the live mastery counter rather than your general catch total. Several quests only count fish that carry a specific mutation or rarity, so ordinary catches will not move the number.

When you catch a fish with the Stellarwave Melody, the Zodiac Wheel activates. Twelve zodiac signs appear above and on the fishing bar. The row above the bar always runs Aries through Pisces in order, while the signs on the bar shuffle every catch. Selecting the correct sign grants 3% progress each time, and hitting the 4th, 8th, and 12th signs stacks weight, progress, resilience, and progress speed bonuses.

Quest 1: Tuning the Tides
In one Stellarwave Melody minigame, pick the correct star sign four times consecutively, then complete that four-pick sequence in a single catch 88 times. All four choices must be correct in the same catch for it to count. Reward: The enhancement adds +0.5s to Zodiac Wheel lifetime, +9 Hunt Focus (Goliath Siphonophore), +100 Durability, and +1 Disturbance.
Quest 2: What is that Melody?
Catch 365 Melody fish with the rod. Every catch has an 18.8% chance to roll the Melody mutation, so keep fishing at any valid spot until the counter reaches the target. Reward: Zodiac Glider.
Quest 3: Stellar Synth
Catch 88 Synth fish of Mythical, Exotic, or Secret rarity. Each fish has an 8.8% chance to receive the Synth mutation, but the Synth label alone is not enough; the fish must also be one of those three rarities. Reward: Piano Bobber.
Quest 4: The Sequel
Directly catch 24 Spectral Serpent carrying either the Melody or Synth mutation. Fish for them in the Brine Pools within Desolate Deep. Reaching the pool needs Desolate Deep access and a glider, and the spot favors Truffle Worm bait during Clear Weather at Night. Wait for the counter to advance before treating a serpent as progress. Reward: Spectre Title.
Quest 5: Cosmic Crescendo
Land 12 Goliath Siphonophore that match the tracker’s categories: Sparkling Melody or Synth. Fish at Boreal Hollow in the Astral Observatory during a Goliath Siphonophore Hunt, using Squid bait; the hunt favors Clear Weather, Night, and Winter. Since some Sparkling or Synth catches do not qualify, check that the counter increases. Sparkling odds rise by 5% to 8% (8% to 12% overall during Aurora or Starfall); Aurora chance increases by 5%, while Melody and Synth chances each gain 3.6%.
Quest 6: Aurora Inception
Directly catch 108 Aurora Gar or Aurora Trout. The two species live in different places, so go to the location for each fish as you travel. The reward is Aurora Bait ×108 plus a Stellar Compass.

How to confirm mastery is complete
Each quest is done when its mastery counter reaches the listed number and hands over the reward tied to it. Once the final counter fills, the Nullwave Skin unlocks as the grand reward. Open the mastery or progression view to claim or verify everything, including the skin. Finishing mastery does not unrestrict the rod, that is a separate Final Convergence route, so treat the two goals as different objectives.
