Fortnite’s 9th Birthday event runs from September 21 through October 1, when Fortnitemares begins. It adds a limited group of Celebration Quests offering free XP and cosmetics, including one that requires four Birthday Cake slices from Named Locations. The challenge is awkward because cakes spawn at only a few set places across the map.
Quick answer: Drop at a Named Location with a giant Birthday Cake, walk up to the smaller slices around its base, and eat four to finish the quest for 5,000 XP. Fortnite OG is the most reliable place to find them.
Where to find Birthday Cake slices
Birthday Cake returned for the anniversary as a common floor item, and it only spawns at set points of interest. At each spot you’ll see one large decorated cake with several individual slices arranged around its base, usually ringed by balloons that make the setup easy to spot from a distance. The slices are what count toward the quest, not the big cake itself.
Only regular Named Locations count for this quest; lore landmarks such as Reality’s Reign are excluded, so use the POIs listed below. Fortnite OG offers the safest route, with Junk Junction especially useful because its map-edge position is usually quiet and lets you reach the cake before another player takes the slices.
| Fortnite OG | Chapter 7 Season 4 |
|---|---|
| Junk Junction | Lifty Lodge |
| Pleasant Park | Latte Landing |
| Loot Lake | Wonkeeland |
| Shifty Shafts | Chopped Shop |
| Salty Springs | Battlewoods |
| Fatal Fields | Cluster Canyon |
| Paradise Palms | Sunken Shores |
| Happy Hamlet | Heatwave Harbor |
A cake normally provides about four slices, meaning one location is enough to complete the quest when you arrive first. Should someone have eaten them already, move to another spawn or queue for a new match instead of lingering there.
Make the giant cake your first stop at the POI, then worry about looting. Other players are also chasing the free slices, and the spot has nothing left once they have consumed them.

Add to Google Preferences →How to eat a Birthday Cake slice
Birthday Cake works differently from standard healing loot: the slices cannot be picked up or placed in your inventory. You must eat each one at its spawn point.
The game only lets you eat a slice when some health or shield is missing. If you are at maximum values and no Consume prompt shows, damage yourself slightly before trying again. Starting the match and eating cake immediately usually avoids the issue because your shields are generally not full.
How much each slice heals
A slice replenishes a modest, set amount, and consuming several consecutively lets those restorations accumulate. Besides counting for the quest, cake therefore provides a fast early-match top-up during gearing.
| Per slice | Amount |
|---|---|
| Health | 10 |
| Shield | 10 |
Since several slices can be consumed, enough missing health and shield lets one complete cake restore both bars fully. Small Shield Potions and Bandages take inventory space, but cake does not—and none of it can be kept for later.
If the slices are missing in Battle Royale
At the 9th Birthday update’s launch, standard Battle Royale spawned the large cakes without spawning the Cake Slice consumables, making the quest temporarily impossible in Chapter 7 Season 4. In that situation, use Fortnite OG instead; its slices appear reliably at the locations listed above.
Once Epic fixes Battle Royale, the process is the same: head to any Named Location, look for the cake, and eat four total slices. Just keep to the listed POIs rather than random landmarks, since only slices eaten at Named Locations credit the quest. The XP payout and quest completion confirm it worked the moment you swallow the fourth slice.
