Fortnite Droid Tycoon Fishing: What the Updated Desert Cave Adds

The reworked cave holds harpoon machines, a scrap delivery point and a blueprint seller tied to droid fishing.

A desert cave in Star Wars: Droid Tycoon has been rebuilt with the same equipment that powered droid fishing during the C-3PO event. Purple harpoon machines sit inside it, a “DELIVER SCRAP” station is stacked on the platforms above, and a “SELL BLUEPRINT” station sits alongside it. Grey and red droid NPCs are wandering the space too.

Quick answer: Droid fishing is not a permanent activity. It runs inside a weekend event. To use it, load Droid Tycoon while an event is live, travel to the desert cave with the purple harpoon machines, fish up scrap and Blueprints, then hand them in at the DELIVER SCRAP station to convert them into Scrap Points.

Droid fishing location: the updated desert cave

The cave is reached by following the event waypoint across the desert, which reads in the hundreds of metres when you set off from the plaza side of the map. The mouth of the cave opens into the fishing floor, and the delivery platforms are stacked above it, so you climb rather than walk straight through.

Three things inside the cave matter. The purple harpoon machines are the fishing points themselves. The DELIVER SCRAP station is where scrap becomes Scrap Points, which are the currency the event unlocks run on. The SELL BLUEPRINT station handles Blueprints you pull out of the pit.

Droid NPCs are placed around the cave in grey and red variants. They are part of the set dressing for the area rather than a separate objective, and they highlight the same way other targets do when you aim at them.

Scrap Points and Galactic Blueprints: what fishing pays out

Fishing feeds two reward tracks. Scrap thrown into the delivery station becomes Scrap Points, and those points are what you spend to unlock the event rewards. Blueprints come out of the same pit, and Galactic Blueprints in particular were tied to fishing when the mechanic first appeared.

Version 1.22.0 reworked how those payouts land. Here is what changed on the fishing side.

ChangeEffect
Blueprints award Scrap PointsBlueprints are no longer dead weight at the delivery station
Higher-tier Scrap scalesBetter scrap grades hand over extra Scrap Points
Sarlacc Tentacle behaviourIt attacks less often during the minigame

The same update also added Critical Strikes to droid crafting, put Critical Strike Upgrades in the Nova Crystal Shop, cut the Beskar timer from 20 minutes to 15, and gave the Droidex a visual pass with navigation shortcuts.

Fishing RNG and the Sarlacc Tentacle

The original version of droid fishing was luck-based from start to finish, and that is the complaint that stuck to it. You could do everything right and still fail a pull, which is why the question of whether the activity is skill-based now keeps coming back.

The grind rate drew fire as well. Galactic scrap paid out in small chunks, and the Nova Crystal return during the first run sat at roughly 1,500 scrap for a single crystal, far below what the R2-D2 event handed out for the same amount of time.

Note: Event progress is individual, and extra players do not speed up the sarlacc pit minigame. A private lobby avoids being jumped on the way out of the fishing area with Blueprints in hand.

If you do stay in a public lobby, take the Armory gear you have unlocked. Weapons open up with each Rebirth, and Captain Phasma’s F-11D Blaster becomes available at three Rebirths.

Fishing bugs: version check and camera issues

The most expensive problems with the fishing minigame were technical, not mechanical. Three kept recurring, and all three cost progress.

  • The camera locks during the minigame and only releases if you quit out of the match.
  • Minigame assets fail to load, which requires a full game restart.
  • An invisible object sits over the fishing button and blocks the interaction.

Version 1.21.0 also had a bug that stopped event rewards from being earned at all. The fix was to restart and confirm you were on 1.21.1, with the version number visible in the bottom left of the screen. That same check applies now. Before you commit an evening to the grind, restart into a fresh lobby and read the build number in the corner.

One PC-specific fix is worth knowing. If the top daily quest cannot be collected after an update, switch out of Performance Mode to DirectX 12, restart Fortnite, then claim it.

When droid fishing is available

Droid Tycoon runs an event every weekend, and each one carries a 2× Credit multiplier, a 2× Upgrade Chip multiplier and a 2× chance of crafting Flawless droids. Fishing only existed inside the C-3PO event window, which is why the cave sits inert the rest of the week.

EventDates
C-3PO Event (fishing debut)July 11–12, 2026, re-run July 18–19, 2026
Galactic EventJuly 25–26, 2026
D-O EventAugust 29–30, 2026, re-run September 5–6, 2026
Protocol Droid EventSeptember 12–13, 2026

No official statement has tied the reworked cave to a named event, so treat the exact return window as unconfirmed until it appears in the in-game News tab.

How to confirm droid fishing is live

Load into a fresh lobby and read the version number in the bottom left of the screen. If it is behind, close the game fully and relaunch before doing anything else.
Check whether an event waypoint is active. A live event pins a distance marker for you and points it at the event area, so there is no need to search the desert manually.
Travel to the cave and interact with a purple harpoon machine. If the fishing prompt appears and the minigame opens, fishing is running. If the machine gives you nothing, the activity is gated behind an inactive event.
Throw your first scrap into the DELIVER SCRAP station and watch the Scrap Points counter move. That increase is the confirmation that your pulls are being banked, not lost to a loading bug.

The hardware in the cave is the clearest signal so far that the harpoon pit is coming back rather than being retired. What is still open is whether the pull itself stays a coin flip or gets a skill input, and the answer to that only shows up the moment the machines switch on.
