Fortnite: How Cheat Codes Work in Battle Royale

Cheat codes are a Battle Royale feature introduced in Chapter 7 Season 4, letting players hunt down hidden inputs on the map to unlock Sprites with combat buffs. They work differently from admin panel codes, another new system in the same season, so it helps to know exactly how the cheat code loop functions before you start chasing them.

What Fortnite cheat codes do

Cheat codes appear as physical objects scattered across the Battle Royale map. They spawn randomly on the ground or on walls, so there’s no fixed set of locations to memorize. Interacting with one and entering the right inputs rewards a Sprite, a buff-granting item you can equip during a match.

These are separate from admin panel codes, which is a different Chapter 7 Season 4 system. Cheat codes are tied specifically to Sprites and d-pad style input sequences, not the admin panel mechanic.

How to enter a cheat code

Walk up to a cheat code once you spot one on the ground or a wall, then press the button prompt that appears to start interacting with it.
Watch the d-pad inputs shown on screen. These display in the exact order you need to press them.
Enter the inputs in that same order using your controller or keyboard equivalent. Getting the sequence right claims the code and grants a Sprite.

You know it worked when the Sprite reward appears after the final input, confirming the code has been claimed. If your inputs are wrong, you can typically try again.

Tip: If a code looks confusing to read, you might be viewing it from an upside-down angle, which flips the correct button order. Repositioning yourself in front of it can make the sequence easier to follow.

Equipping a Cheat Master Sprite removes the guesswork entirely. With one active, pressing any button automatically enters the correct sequence for you.

Cheat code rarities and Sprite rewards

Cheat codes come in three color-coded rarities. Each one requires a longer input sequence and guarantees a higher minimum Sprite rarity as a reward.

Blue4Rare Sprite
Purple5Epic Sprite
Gold6Legendary Sprite

Finding cheat codes faster with a Cheat Code Locator

Since cheat codes spawn randomly, most players simply stumble on them while looting. If you want to target the closest one directly, a Gizmo called the Cheat Code Locator points you to the nearest code’s exact position.

You can get a Cheat Code Locator by using admin panel codes, or by visiting an Extraction Site. At an Extraction Site, the Sprite Dust Services vendor sells one for 1,500 Sprite Dust, though the purchase is capped at once per day.

Between random map spawns and a Cheat Code Locator purchased through Sprite Dust Services, tracking down cheat codes comes down to how much Sprite Dust you’re willing to spend versus how much of the map you’re willing to search on foot.
