Fortnite Sprite Hunt Rift Anomaly: How to Find Guaranteed Special Sprites

What triggers the anomaly, which Sprite variants drop, and the exact way to dig up buried Sprite Chests.

The Sprite Hunt Rift Anomaly is one of the few reliable ways to pull a Special Sprite out of a match in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3. When it fires, buried Sprite Chests appear inside the current Storm circle, and every one of them is locked to drop a Special variant instead of a base Sprite.

Quick answer: Wait for the Sprite Hunt Rift Anomaly to trigger, open your map to find the marked buried chest icons, run to one, hit the mound with your pickaxe to unearth the chest, then search it. The Sprite that pops out is guaranteed to be a Special variant.

What the Sprite Hunt Rift Anomaly does

Rift Anomalies are match events that have a chance to happen after each Storm phase begins. The Sprite Hunt is the Chapter 7 Season 3 anomaly built around Sprite collecting. When it activates, several buried Sprite Chests spawn inside the current Storm circle and appear on the map as chest icons.

The key difference from ordinary Sprite Chests is the loot lock. Regular chests can hand you a base Sprite, but a buried chest from this anomaly is guaranteed to contain a Special variant. It works like the Lucky Locator and Sprite Locator, which also surface buried chests, except the anomaly seeds the map for everyone at once. The number of buried chests usually ranges from three to five, so the supply is limited.

Note: while the drop is always a Special variant, the tier is still randomized. Rare pulls are the most common, and Legendary or Mythic results are far less likely.

Which Special Sprites can drop

Buried chests only pull from the Special variants currently in the loot pool. You will not get base Sprites from them, and Quack variants are excluded entirely because those are earned through Sprite Mastery rewards.

How to dig up the buried Sprite Chests

Stay in the match until the Sprite Hunt Rift Anomaly activates. You will see a banner reading “Variant Sprites have appeared in buried chests!” along with a Rift Anomaly alert. It does not appear in every match, so some rounds will roll a different anomaly instead.
Open your map. The buried chest locations show up as chest icons inside the current Storm circle. Note that these markers are visible to every player, so expect company.

Pick the nearest marker and head to it before other players clear it out. Move in equipped and ready, since these spots turn into contested points fast.

Hit the buried mound with your pickaxe to bring the chest to the surface, the same motion you use for a Lucky Locator or Sprite Locator chest.

Search the chest and collect the Special Sprite that appears. You will know it worked when the pickup prompt names a Special variant, such as a Gummy Boss Sprite or a Galaxy Fishy Sprite, rather than a base version. Carry a Portable Extractor so you can bank a rare pull on the spot instead of risking it in a fight.

When the anomaly appears and how to force it

Outside of special events, the Sprite Hunt has a set chance to trigger and can be replaced by other anomalies such as the Battle Bus Victory Royale or a Friendly Extraction event. There is no way to guarantee it in a normal match.

Power Hours change that. During events like Web Shooter Hours, the Sprite Hunt Rift Anomaly stays active throughout every match, and Special Sprite spawn rates climb across the board. That combination makes scheduled Power Hours the most efficient window for filling out a variant collection.

If you are chasing a specific rarity rather than raw variants, pair the anomaly with the wider Sprite systems. Mastery Mondays raise Mythic Sprite odds for a full day, and Vaults hand out guaranteed Sprite Chests, so a boosted window plus a Portable Extractor gives you the best shot at locking in the rarest pulls before someone else reaches the chest.
