Frost Spike and Glacial Domain in Crimson Desert: Beloth the Darksworn rewards

Frost Spike and Glacial Domain in Crimson Desert: Beloth the Darksworn rewards

Frost Spike and Glacial Domain are two ice-based abilities tied to a single endgame fight in Crimson Desert: the Beloth the Darksworn boss inside Hoenmark Ruins, deep in Hernand's frozen highlands. One is an Abyss Gear that slots into a melee weapon and reshapes your Turning Slash. The other is a special equipment effect built into a unique helm. Both come from the same encounter, and both reward patient, deliberate use rather than mashed inputs.

❄️
Quick answer: Defeat Beloth the Darksworn in the "Wraith in the Frost" faction quest at Hoenmark Ruins to receive Frost Spike. Then use the Abyss Artifact at the glowing spot in the arena to open the ruins, loot the chest inside, and pick up the Plate Helm of the Shadows, which carries the Glacial Domain effect.

Where Frost Spike and Glacial Domain come from

Both rewards trace back to a single boss kill. Beloth the Darksworn is one of the game's "Overwhelming Beings," a wraith bound to the Hoenmark Ruins arena in the Hernand region. The fight is part of the House Lanford questline, listed in the Faction Quests journal under "Wraith in the Frost," with the objective "Slay Beloth, the Darksworn."

Killing Beloth automatically grants Frost Spike and an Abyss Artifact. The Plate Helm of the Shadows, which carries the Glacial Domain ability, is not an automatic drop. It sits in a chest inside the ruins that only become accessible after you use the Abyss Artifact on a glowing point in the arena. A short cutscene melts the surrounding ice and opens the path forward.

Preparing for Beloth at Hoenmark Ruins

The arena sits in the coldest part of Hernand, and the temperature drops to its lowest possible value during the fight itself. Without ice protection, your Stamina drains, and Beloth's pressure becomes unmanageable. Aim for at least 15 levels of Ice Resistance before stepping in.

GearEffectWhere to get it
Kuku Ice-Resistant ArmorLv. 10 Ice Resistance, Lv. 3 Movement Speed when fully upgradedCrafted at Grimnir's Kuku Shop using an Enhanced Kuku Pot, Frostcursed Plate Armor, Power Core - Crown of Shadows, and Core of Exultation
Frostcursed Plate Armor / CloakLv. 5–7 Ice ResistanceChest in Mistshard Cave, behind a waterfall in the Demeniss region
Bear Hide CloakLv. 5 Ice ResistanceHernand exploration loot
Core of ExultationCrafting component for Kuku armorLight reflection puzzle in the Sanctum of Exultation, Pailun
Power Core - Crown of ShadowsCrafting component for Kuku armorCrown of Shadows enemies south-west of the Abyss Nexus in Hernand

Stacking the Kuku Ice-Resistant Armor with the Frostcursed Plate Cloak reaches 15 Ice Resistance, which neutralizes the blizzard inside the arena. Investing Abyss Artifacts into your character before the fight raises your effective combat strength, even though the game doesn't surface that scaling clearly in any menu.

The Beloth fight in brief

Beloth has roughly 13,000 HP and fights with a frost halberd. His pattern mixes a short standing combo, slamming attacks, and a triple spin into a leap slam with a long recovery window. He also seeds ice swirls on the ground that telegraph falling ice shards, plus area freezes that punish standing still. Fire imbued attacks and the Kuku Watcher Pack's stun build are both effective.

Several of his attacks cannot be parried cleanly. Red "special" moves are unparryable as a rule, and parrying mid-combo or mid-action tends to fail; you generally need a neutral stance before the parry will read. Dodging into his recovery frames after the leap slam is the most reliable damage window.

Frost Spike: stats, activation, and behavior

Frost Spike is an Abyss Gear that fits into any melee weapon socket. Once embedded, your Turning Slash fires a wave of frozen spikes in a frontal cone, dealing additional damage on top of the slash itself. For Damiane and Oongka, the equivalent Turning Slash inputs trigger the same projectile.

EffectSummons a wave of frozen spikes in a frontal cone for additional damage
ActivationStrong + Weak Attack at the same time (Turning Slash input, R1 + R2 on controller)
CostConsumes additional Spirit per use
Imbue Element requiredNo

The practical value goes beyond the extra hit. Frost Spike pushes the stagger bar significantly faster, which matters against bosses where stun windows decide the fight. Pairing it with another Turning Slash modifier, such as Wave of Darkness, or imbuing the weapon with an element via the Imbue Element skill, can make a single Turning Slash stun a boss outright.

Embedding and removing Abyss Gears is handled by the Witches found in each region. Elowen at the Witch's House is one example. Their menu includes Embed Abyss Gear, Extract Abyss Gear, and Create Socket, which is how you swap Frost Spike between weapons or free up a slot.

Glacial Domain: stats, activation, and behavior

Glacial Domain is the special equipment effect on the Plate Helm of the Shadows, looted from a chest that opens after the Abyss Artifact cutscene at Hoenmark Ruins. It is not an Abyss Gear, so it does not occupy a weapon socket. Instead, it triggers from the special equipment slot.

PropertyDetail
SourcePlate Helm of the Shadows (chest inside Hoenmark Ruins after the artifact cutscene)
EffectReleases a cloud of frost in front of the player that deals damage over time
ActivationL2 to select the helm from the special equipment slot, then R2 to use it
Cooldown10 seconds
InterruptibleYes — taking a hit cancels the channel; dodging also cancels it

The cloud functions as a continuous icy breath. It chews through grouped enemies cleanly, but the channel is fragile. Against active mobs like Flame Knights, a single attack will cut it short, and the cooldown prevents an immediate re-cast. Glacial Domain performs best when the target cannot retaliate, such as a stunned boss with a full stagger bar, or a downed enemy where you can plant the cloud over them.

How to verify the rewards landed

After the kill, the Faction Quests entry "Wraith in the Frost" updates, and a "Frost Spike acquired" notification appears on the loot ticker. The Abyss Artifact arrives in the same drop. Walking up to the glowing spot on the arena floor and using the artifact triggers the ice-melting cutscene; if the prompt does not appear, you are not standing on the correct interact point.

The Plate Helm of the Shadows shows up in the Inventory under headgear with Glacial Domain listed as its ability. The same chest run also includes the Plate Armor of the Shadows, which has Heart of Stone embedded for Petrification Immunity, and the Plate Gloves of the Shadows with Ascent 1 (climb speed) and Surge 1 (swim speed).

Using both together

The two abilities are designed to stack. Frost Spike accelerates the stagger bar through repeated Turning Slashes, and Glacial Domain capitalizes on the resulting stun by laying down sustained damage during the window when the boss cannot interrupt the channel. Against trash mobs, lead with Glacial Domain to soften the group, then clean up with Frost Spike Turning Slashes, and standard melee.

Spirit management matters. Frost Spike consumes additional Spirit per Turning Slash, and the message "Not enough Spirit" will block the cast outright if you spam the input. Wild Ginseng (no Spirit cost) and Skyroot (no Stamina cost) are the cleanest consumables for keeping pressure on without running dry mid-combo.

⚠️
Note: Glacial Domain is a special equipment effect tied to the helm, not a socketable Abyss Gear. You cannot transfer it to other armor or extract it at a Witch.
