Ronova, the Ruler of Death, spends most of Chapter VII: Act IV “A Rekviem for the Underworld” as an unanswerable force. The fight that closes the act is the first time anyone in Teyvat actually makes her bleed, and it only works because three fighters and one unfinished piece of Fatui hardware hit her at once.
Quick answer: Stay mobile inside Ronova’s Crimson Moon domain, let Dainsleif eat the shockwaves, break her barriers with a three-way assault, then finish her with Pierro’s Eye of the Fatui lance through her central barrier.
Everything below spoils the ending of the Version 7.1 Archon Quest, including what happens to Ronova afterwards.
Ronova’s curse and why she can be hurt at all
The reason Snezhnaya moves against her is practical, not philosophical. Mitya explains that Ronova has been suppressing Snezhnayan technology to protect the Heavenly Principles, and that Project Mistilteinn cannot continue while she is watching. Every time research crossed a genuine threshold, the curse activated and killed the people standing nearby.

The trigger condition matters because it defines her limits. The curse fires on significant technological advancement, not on ambition or intent, which is why incremental work slips through and why the final-phase energy test cost Project Stuzha both its researchers and its resources. Mitya survived it. That survival is the whole argument for the fight.

Pierro reaches the same conclusion from the other direction. Repeated deaths and repeated returns mean Ronova is not free to do as she likes — she is bound by rules she herself has to obey. She is vulnerable to anything established as a rule, and the cost of testing that is memory erosion rather than permanent death.

Add to Google Preferences →The Seal of Life setup that makes the fight possible
Before anyone swings a sword, Snezhnaya builds a counterweight. Regrator and Sandrone propose using Vesna’s inherited fraction of the Ruler of Life’s power to push directly against the Ruler of Death, and Sandrone outlines extracting life force to reach the vault of life. Vesna tests it by pulling a Seal of Life into a floating orb.

Seals of Life are not free. Sandrone warns that a damaged seal permanently erases the memories tied to it, and Mitya, Regrator, Rayne and Paimon all hand theirs over knowing that.
Rhinedottir sits on the other side of the same equation. Designated the Ruler of Life, she shows up to reclaim celestial life force in person, and a recovered memory shows her and Ronova discussing how to revive the dead in the gaps between Celestia’s oversight periods. The Four Shades have been working around the rules for a very long time.

Who fights alongside you
The Traveler does not go in alone. The act runs through a throne-room audience with Cryo Archon Anastasya Feodorovna Snezhnaya, with Capitano, Tartaglia, Pantalone and the rest of the Fatui command present, and the assault party that comes out of it is the Traveler, Dainsleif and Pierro. Each one covers a different failure point in the fight.

| Fighter | Role in the fight | Key tool |
|---|---|---|
| The Traveler | Mobile damage, barrier chipping | Electro-infused sword slashes |
| Dainsleif | Front line, shockwave defense | Melee plus telekinetic shielding |
| Pierro | Barrier break, finisher | Eye of the Fatui prototype |
How to defeat Ronova in the Archon Quest fight
How you know the fight is over: Eitr and the Celestia pillar
The encounter ends when the red rift breaks apart and Ronova disappears through a dimensional tear rather than dying on the field. She stumbles out beside a Celestia pillar, bleeding and severely wounded, and recognizes the sensation of dying as something she has never felt in her own body.
What she does next is the act’s real ending. Drawing on Hyperborea and the Shadow Realm, she produces the forbidden substance Eitr and presses it into the base of the pillar, fracturing the marble and the core inside it. The Ruler of Death loses the fight and damages Celestia’s own architecture on the way out.
Fighting Ronova again as a Weekly Boss
Beating her in the story is not the last you see of her. Ronova also becomes a new Weekly Boss in Version 7.1, which means a repeatable Trounce Domain run after the Archon Quest encounter. Story progress is the route in, so there is no map marker to rush before the quest.
- To access this Archon Quest, reach Adventure Rank 18 and complete Chapter VII: Act II “Wraith’s Nocturne.”
- Act III and Act IV are both permanently available, and they unlock in order.
- Trounce Blossom cost: 60 Original Resin, halved to 30 for your first three claims each week.
- Those three half-price claims are one shared pool across every Trounce Domain, not three per boss.
- One reward per domain per week, reset every Monday at 4:00 AM server time.
- Condensed Resin does not work on Trounce Blossoms.
The bundle for finishing the Archon Quest inside its window, and the Epilogue that follows it, both expire on 2026/11/03 14:59 (UTC+8). The Weekly Boss stays; the Epilogue does not.
Her talent material names and the difficulty tiers for her domain are shown on the Trounce Domain reward screen and on the character talent screens in-game, so check those before committing Resin to a farming route. If you are heading in cold, clear Act II first — it is the only prerequisite standing between you and the fight.
