Genshin Impact 7.1 Stygian Onslaught: Best Teams for All Three Bosses

Team setups and boss mechanics for clearing every Battlefield in the current Stygian Onslaught cycle.

Team setups and boss mechanics for clearing every Battlefield in the current Stygian Onslaught cycle.

The current Stygian Onslaught cycle pits you against three high-HP enemies, each with a mechanic that punishes brute force and rewards the right elemental setup. Two of the three bosses lean heavily on Stellar Glimmer reactions, while the middle fight is built around constant Cryo application. Planning your rosters ahead of time matters, because from Menacing difficulty upward you cannot reuse the same character across different Battlefields.

Quick answer: Run a Stellar team (Vesna or Sandrone with Odette) on Battlefield 1, a Cryo Freeze team led by Skirk on Battlefield 2, and a Stellar or Pyro shield-break team on Battlefield 3.

1Battle-Hardened Domovoy SculptorStellar Glimmer (Swirl or Conduct)
2Secret Source Automaton: Overseer DeviceCryo
3Guardian Blade of Drifting SnowStellar Glimmer or Pyro

Several strong units, such as Odette, Sandrone, Yae Miko and Qiqi, slot well into more than one fight. Decide which Battlefield needs each of them most before you start Menacing or higher, since a character locked into one stage cannot appear in another.

Battlefield 1: Battle-Hardened Domovoy Sculptor teams

The Domovoy Sculptor, also called Churin, carries one of the largest HP pools in Stygian Onslaught so far, sitting above 13 million in Fearless and nearly double that in Dire. It opens the fight with 90% resistance to every element, so you cannot win without a Stellar reaction enabler.

During battle, it creates Ice Cubes and shapes them into Jack Frosts. Strike it with Stellar reaction damage before the carving is complete to leave the cubes as harmless statues. Each statue’s explosion hits the boss for 500,000 damage; two exploding together deal one million. The blasts also cut its Anemo resistance by 25% and its other Elemental resistances by 20%, with this effect stacking up to three times. Even then, it retains 15% Anemo resistance and 30% resistance to other Elements, so keep interrupting it consistently. Any unshielded hit from the boss can knock out your active character.

  • Vesna, Odette, Faruzan, Vodyanitsa
  • Mizuki, Odette, Cryo Traveler, Diona
  • Sandrone, Odette, Yae Miko, Qiqi

Vesna, Odette, Faruzan, Vodyanitsa

Vesna’s premium team is the strongest pick here. She triggers Stellar Swirl while the boss is carving the Jack Frosts, interrupting the attack and cutting its Anemo resistance. Stopping the carvings before they finish is the priority, since a completed carving deals heavy damage. In testing on the preview build, this exact lineup cleared the fight in 77 seconds at Level 105.

Mizuki, Odette, Cryo Traveler, Diona

Without Vesna, Mizuki can handle the stage comfortably. Use Cryo Traveler and Odette for sub-DPS, with Diona covering healing. To avoid bringing a dedicated healer, put Faruzan in Diona’s slot instead.

Sandrone, Odette, Yae Miko, Qiqi

A Stellar-Conduct option built around Sandrone and Yae Miko works well too. Interrupt the boss as it carves the Prime Ice sculptures to drop its Elemental resistance, then focus damage while it is exposed.

Battlefield 2: Secret Source Automaton Overseer Device teams

This boss is weak to Cryo and starts the fight with a Cryo meter. Applying enough Cryo keeps its Flow Momentum gauge from filling, and holding the gauge below zero greatly reduces its resistances. Two Cryo units reliably meet the requirement, and skilled players can manage with one. It has the lowest HP of the three bosses, so you can save your best characters for the harder fights and clear this one with a simpler team. Watch out for its ground Hydro pull, which can drain your health quickly, so bring units with good mobility.

  • Skirk, Escoffier, Furina, Vodyanitsa
  • Sandrone, Odette, Yae Miko, Qiqi
  • Cryo Traveler, Alyosha, Diona, Sucrose

Skirk, Escoffier, Furina, Vodyanitsa

A hypercarry Skirk Freeze team is the best choice. Constant Cryo application keeps the gauge pinned, exposing the boss to maximum damage. If Vodyanitsa is busy on another Battlefield, Shenhe or Yelan fills the fourth slot. A similar Freeze setup swapping in Wriothesley with Shenhe also clears the stage. The Skirk lineup cleared this fight in 73 seconds at Level 105 in preview testing.

Sandrone, Odette, Yae Miko, Qiqi

Although this is a Stellar-oriented team, three of its members apply Cryo constantly, which is exactly what this boss needs. Keep the Cryo gauge at zero and the resistance drop opens a steady damage window.

Cryo Traveler, Alyosha, Diona, Sucrose

This free-to-play lineup supplies plenty of Cryo. With Alyosha, Diona and Sucrose supporting, Cryo Traveler is a capable main DPS and clears the fight as long as the Cryo gauge stays low. Among four-stars, Charlotte and Layla are also strong Cryo picks for this encounter.

Battlefield 3: Guardian Blade of Drifting Snow teams

The newest boss in this cycle is also weak to Stellar Glimmer, but it gives you more than one way through its shield mechanic. When its HP drops to 80%, it deploys a 42U Cryo shield. Triggering a Stellar Glimmer reaction converts it into a damage-based shield worth 15% of the boss’s total HP. Breaking that shield deals 10% of the boss’s HP plus 60% of the damage absorbed, and stuns it briefly.

The shield returns roughly 40 seconds later, so expect to repeat the process two or three times depending on your damage. If you fail to break it, the boss regenerates 10% of its HP, dragging the fight out. Heavy Pyro application also breaks the Cryo shield, which opens up an Overload approach.

  • Sandrone, Odette, Yae Miko, Qiqi
  • Flins, Columbina, Ineffa, Cryo Traveler
  • Mavuika, Ororon, Iansan, Chevreuse

Sandrone, Odette, Yae Miko, Qiqi

Sandrone’s best team is a top pick because its Stellar-Conduct reactions tear down the shield fast. Once the shield breaks, the blocked damage reflects back onto the boss. If you do not finish it quickly after the first break, it will put up a second shield for you to destroy.

Flins, Columbina, Ineffa, Cryo Traveler

A Flins team also handles this stage, but replace Sucrose with Cryo Traveler so you can deal Stellar Glimmer damage to the shield. After the shield is down, return to Flins’ normal rotation to pour damage into the boss.

Mavuika, Ororon, Iansan, Chevreuse

The barrier is Cryo, so Pyro application is just as effective at breaking it. You can clear the fight with a Mavuika Overload team featuring Iansan, Ororon, and Chevreuse, without a Stellar enabler. Off-field Pyro characters like Xiangling and Bennett also work, as do Pyro catalysts such as Klee and Yanfei.

You will know a Battlefield is cleared when the “Battle Complete” screen appears and the challenge records your time. Clearing all three in a single run finishes that difficulty level. If you are aiming for the Dire weapon skin, remember the Perilous objective requires finishing the entire challenge within 180 seconds, which averages out to about 60 seconds per Battlefield.
