Dire is the sixth and final difficulty of Stygian Onslaught, and in Version 7.0 it puts three bosses with tens of millions of HP behind a two-minute timer each. The extra objective on top of simply surviving is speed, and that is where high-investment teams like Neuvillette hypercarry, Lyney with a Lunar support core, and a Wriothesley Stellar-Conduct squad separate themselves from everything else.
Quick answer: To earn the Sublimation weapon skin on Dire, beat all three battlefields solo in a combined 180 seconds or less, which works out to an average of 60 seconds per boss with no Exalted One buffs and no character reused across stages.
Dire difficulty rules and the 180-second objective
Dire sits behind a Fearless clear and runs enemies at Level 110. Each battlefield gives you two minutes, so a boss that survives past 120 seconds ends the attempt on its own. Character locking matters just as much as raw damage, because a unit, weapon, or artifact piece used in one cleared stage cannot appear in another without wiping the earlier record.
| Rule | What it means on Dire |
|---|---|
| Unlock | Clear Fearless first |
| Enemy level | 110 |
| Timer | 2 minutes per battlefield |
| Speed objective | All three battles inside 180 seconds total |
| Exalted Ones | Buffs do not apply |
| Team building | No repeated characters, weapons, or artifacts across stages |
| Rewards | Claimable only from a single-player clear |
Because Exalted One bonuses are switched off, every point of HP, ATK, and DEF comes from your own builds. That is the main reason Dire clears are usually reported with constellation and refinement counts attached rather than as plain team lists.

Add to Google Preferences →The three 7.0 bosses and how each one breaks
Every battlefield in Stygian Onslaught: Battle of the Starburst is gated by a shield or ward rather than by a healthbar alone. Pushing damage into a locked boss wastes most of your two minutes, so the fastest runs are built around the break condition first and the damage window second.
| Boss | Dire HP | Break condition |
|---|---|---|
| Chimeric Winged Lion | 23.35 million | Electro Ward of 40 gauge units; a Stellar reaction strips 16 units instantly, and Stellar Glimmer also stops its greatsword attack and its Anemo Orb absorption |
| Veteran Wind Operative | 17.5 million | White Damage Shield from Hunt Down; break it with raw damage, and shield yourself or dodge to avoid the damage-over-time debuff |
| Knuckle Duckle | 25.9 million | Kill or disrupt the Stamping Devices; Electro-Charged and Lunar-Charged hits dismantle them, which collapses the Ward and drops its Electro RES |
Two details change how you build. The Wind Operative’s White Damage Shield blocks the damage bonus from Vaporize and Melt, so reaction multipliers matter less than flat output while it is up, and she applies a large Bond of Life that cannot be healed off. The Winged Lion, after its ward falls, takes back the damage it absorbed and briefly runs reduced Cryo and Anemo RES, which is the window a Cryo carry is meant to hit.
High-investment Dire lineups that clear in 175 seconds
A full 7.0 Dire run built around Lyney, Neuvillette, and Wriothesley finishes in 175 seconds, five seconds under the cutoff. The split is uneven on purpose. Two fights take the better part of 70 seconds each, and the third is cleared fast enough to buy them that time.
| Battlefield | Team | Clear time |
|---|---|---|
| Veteran Wind Operative | Lyney, Ineffa, Nicole, Columbina | 71 seconds |
| Chimeric Winged Lion | Neuvillette, Furina, Citlali, Escoffier | 72 seconds |
| Knuckle Duckle | Wriothesley, Yae Miko, Odette, Xilonen | 32 seconds |
The Neuvillette team ignores the usual Stellar-Conduct recommendation for the Winged Lion and instead uses constant Hydro from Neuvillette alongside Cryo from Escoffier and Citlali to chew through the Electro Ward with reactions, with Furina scaling the damage. It is a shield-break-by-volume approach rather than a Stellar one.

Lyney handles the Wind Operative because her shield punishes reaction-dependent carries, not raw Pyro output. Ineffa supplies an Electro shield to block the Hunt Down debuff, while Nicole and Columbina cover the buffing. The Wriothesley team, meanwhile, is the Stellar-Conduct core most guides point at the Winged Lion, pointed at Knuckle Duckle instead, and it works because the Stamping Devices die to concentrated damage even without a Lunar-Charged setup.
The builds behind those times are signature-weapon tier. Pieces such as the Tome of the Eternal Flow, Kagura’s Verity, Primordial Jade Cutter, Peak Patrol Song, and Cashflow Supervision show up alongside sets including Marechaussee Hunter, Splendor of Tranquil Waters, Golden Troupe, Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City, and Starcaller’s Watch.
What a sub-180 Dire clear actually costs
Constellation level does most of the heavy lifting at this tier. A separate 155-second 7.0 Dire clear ran Sandrone C6R1, Yae Miko C3R1, Odette C2R1, and Escoffier C0R1 against the Lion; Arlecchino C6R1, Chevreuse C6 with R5 Favonius Lance, Fischl C6 with R5 Stringless, and Nicole C6R1 against the Operative; and Zibai C6R1, Linnea C2R1, Columbina C2R1, and Ineffa C0R1 against the Duckle.
Note: Meeting all reward requirements on Dire generally means teams with most constellations unlocked, because the jump in enemy stats from Fearless is large and no external buff covers the gap.
Testing damage before you commit to a Dire attempt
Before running the real thing, it is worth putting each team through a controlled damage test against a Ruin Guard. A stationary target with no ward mechanic tells you whether a rotation produces enough raw output in 60 seconds, separate from any shield-break problem.

Run the test with the exact team you intend to bring, including the same weapons and artifact pieces. Since Dire locks equipment across battlefields, a set you borrow for a test team is a set the next team cannot use.

Compare the totals across all three of your planned teams rather than optimizing one. The 175-second run works because a 32-second Knuckle Duckle clear absorbs the overtime from two roughly 70-second fights, not because any single team is perfect.

When a test ends, the exit prompt counts down briefly before returning you to the field, so you can reset and repeat the rotation quickly.

How to confirm the Dire clear registered
Each won battlefield shows a Battle Complete banner, and the run ends with Challenge Completed once all three are done. Reward tiers for Dire only unlock from a solo clear, so a Co-Op assist leaves the challenge marked as beaten without the rewards attached.
A completed Dire run also grants Eminence to the teams you used. When enough players use a character for Dire clears, that character becomes an Exalted One on the daily reset, which grants the 20% HP, ATK, and DEF bonus on every difficulty below Dire.
Why sub-180 attempts fail
- Bringing a Vaporize or Melt carry into the Veteran Wind Operative, where the White Damage Shield cancels the reaction damage bonus.
- Taking the Hunt Down attack without a shield, which heals the Operative and applies a heavy damage-over-time debuff.
- Attacking Knuckle Duckle directly while its Ward is up, since its boosted RES makes brute force impractical until the Stamping Devices are gone.
- Letting the Chimeric Winged Lion absorb its Anemo Orbs, which restarts the flight and attack cycle instead of triggering a paralysis window.
- Swapping a character, weapon, or artifact piece into a later stage after an earlier clear, which erases the previous record.
Battle of the Starburst runs until September 22nd, 2026, and the Disturbance Outbreak window for artifact rewards has already closed, so the remaining value in this cycle is the Dire clear itself and the weapon appearance tied to it. The following cycle opens on September 30th, 2026 with a new boss lineup, which means any team you assemble now has a fixed shelf life.
