How to confirm the game has unlocked

On PC, the Steam library entry switches from the pre-order or countdown state to a playable Install or Play button once the clock hits your local launch time. On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the store tile changes from pre-order to download. If your time has passed and the button has not updated, restart the storefront client to force a refresh.

⚠️
A day-one update is required before you can start. Some players who obtained the game early were blocked by an online check, so plan for a patch download even after the unlock time.

Preload and download size

No preload time has been confirmed for any platform. Neither Steam nor the console stores list a fixed pre-download window, so you should expect to download the full game at launch. PlayStation 5 pre-orders may pull the files automatically if auto-download and auto-login settings are enabled, but no firm date has been published for that.

On PC, set aside roughly 60 GB of free space, with an SSD strictly required. The base download is expected to land somewhere between 30 and 60 GB, and a day-one patch can push the final footprint higher.

PC system requirements

The hardware bar leans on graphics memory and storage rather than CPU. At minimum you need 8 GB of VRAM, 16 GB of RAM, and an SSD.

Reviews and what to expect at launch

Review copies went out late, so full-length reviews are not expected on launch day. Comprehensive coverage is more likely in the second week of June once outlets have logged enough hours.

The remake keeps the original story of the prison colony in the Valley of the Mines, where King Rhobar II's magical barrier traps everyone inside after it spirals out of control. It offers more than 50 hours of play, a reworked combat system that drops the stamina bar in favor of spacing and positioning, and faction choices that shape the outcome. The game costs €49.99 on PC and €59.99 on consoles, with the soundtrack included on PC and a copy of Gothic Classic bundled on consoles.

If you want to lock in before the unlock time, the official Gothic 1 Remake Steam page handles PC pre-orders and the soundtrack bonus.
