Grand Blue Roblox: Best Flame Build for PvP

Flame is one of the two fruits worth keeping on sight in Grand Blue, but the way most people build it — dumping points into Energy and hoping the fire numbers carry — falls apart the moment a real player dashes at you. The competitive version of Flame is a melee build. You run Claws, you stack Strength and Health, and you treat the fruit as two burst buttons bolted onto a brawler kit.

Quick answer: Run Captain’s Claws with 300 Strength and 150 Health, zero Energy, Brawler style, and equip only Flame Fist and Flame Commandment from the fruit tree.

Stat distribution: 300 Strength, 150 Health, no Energy

Energy is the stat that scales cursed fruit damage, and that is exactly why it gets skipped here. Flame’s moves do not gain enough per point to be worth the investment when the same points buy M1 damage that lands on every single hit. Strength does the heavy lifting, Health keeps you alive long enough to use it.

StatPointsWhat it buys
Strength300M1 and Claw Flail damage
Health1501.3k–1.4k HP floor
Energy0Skipped entirely

The Health number is not arbitrary. Below roughly 1.3k to 1.4k HP you can be deleted by a single clean combo before you ever get to counter, which makes every other part of the build irrelevant. Hit that floor first, then push the rest into Strength.

Call Hermes for quests and rank up with him. Each rank awards +5 stat points, which is the cheapest way to close the gap if you are short of both targets.

Weapon and fighting style: Claws over swords, Brawler over Trickster

Captain’s Claws are the weapon of choice here rather than a sword. Claw abilities are rapid multi-hit tools, and Claw Flail in particular converts a high Strength stat into real pressure inside a combo instead of a single slow swing that can be dodged.

Roll Sea Stone on the weapon. Without it you simply cannot connect against Logia users, and Flame mirrors are common enough in duels that this is not optional.

For the M1 layer, take Brawler instead of Trickster. The passives are stronger for a melee-first Flame user, and Brawler is unlocked through a trainer who asks for physical training activities such as push-ups and sit-ups on top of the gold cost.

Gear loadout for PvP

Bear HeadCore stat boosts
Marine Captain’s CapeCore stat boosts
Richer’s FangMax HP and PvP damage reduction
Flame RingAdds burn stacks to attacks
Kur’s Pocket WatchOverall HP increase

Richer’s Fang is the piece that matters most in duels, since the PvP damage reduction stacks with your Health investment to push you well past the one-combo threshold. Flame Ring is the only accessory doing fruit-specific work, feeding burn stacks onto hits you were landing anyway. Save the loadout once it is assembled so you can swap back after PvE runs.

Skill selection and upgrade priorities

Only two Flame moves earn a slot. Flame Fist and Flame Commandment are the ones that hold up in duels; the rest of the bar goes to style, weapon, and counter abilities. Skills level through use and then offer upgrades, so push these in the order below.

SkillUpgrade path
Fatal OpeningMaximum damage
Usopp HammerDaze duration
Flame FistDamage and size
Claw FlailDuration and damage
Flame CommandmentSlot cost to level 6
Bear ChargeMaximum speed
Nine LivesDamage and duration

Flame Commandment is the odd one out. Instead of chasing damage, take its slot cost upgrade to level 6, which frees up enough room on the bar to run the rest of this kit at once. Usopp Hammer’s daze duration is the other upgrade you should not delay, because every combo below opens through it.

An unequipped skill does nothing. When an unlock prompt appears, accept it, or equip the ability from ability storage in the character screen.

Four PvP combos

Every sequence starts from a landed M1 except the last, which starts from a counter. Learn the short one first — consistency beats length when the opponent is dashing.

Standard combo

  • M1 → Usopp Hammer → Bear Charge
  • Flame Pillar → Claw Flail → Flame Pillar

This is the full-damage route against a grounded target with no Logia protection. Bear Charge closes distance mid-string, which is why its speed upgrade matters.

Anti-Logia combo

  • M1 → Usopp Hammer → Fatal Opening
  • Flame Commandment → Claw Flail

Use this against other Flame users and anyone else with Logia intangibility. It leans on Fatal Opening and the Sea Stone roll on your claws rather than moves that get phased through.

Short combo

  • M1 → Usopp Hammer → Flame Fist → Fatal Opening

Fewer inputs, far fewer drops. This is the one to default to against opponents who dash out of longer strings, and it still hits hard because Flame Fist grows the longer you hold it.

Counter combo

  • Nine Lives → Usopp Hammer → Flame Pillar → Claw Flail

Nine Lives turns someone else’s opener into your own. It is the reason the Health investment pays off twice — surviving the first exchange is what puts you in position to counter it.

How to check the build is working

Two checks confirm it. Open your character screen and read the HP total — if it sits at or above 1.3k, you have cleared the one-combo threshold. Then hit a training dummy or a camp enemy with a plain M1 string followed by Claw Flail; at 300 Strength the damage numbers should be visibly larger than anything the Flame moves produce on their own, which is the whole point of skipping Energy.

One last thing worth knowing before you commit: eating a cursed fruit in Grand Blue is permanent, and skill levels save per fruit, so mastery you build now stays yours. If you switch this same character over to farming islands and bosses, drop the Health padding and go max Strength — the PvP survivability tax only earns its keep when the thing hitting you is another player.
