Grand Blue Roblox: How to Get a Bigger Ship

Reach Maple Village, save up your gold, and buy the upgraded vessel from Mary for cannons, customization, and long voyages.

Reach Maple Village, save up your gold, and buy the upgraded vessel from Mary for cannons, customization, and long voyages.

The rowboat you start with in Grand Blue is fine for the first stretch of the map, but it runs out of usefulness the moment you need to cross real distance between islands. The upgrade is a proper ship, and it is sold by a single merchant in one village.

Quick answer: Follow the main quest line until you reach Maple Village on Maple Island, save enough money, then talk to the NPC Mary in the village and buy the larger ship from her.

What the bigger ship adds over the starter boat

The starter boat moves you along the early island chain and nothing more. The purchased ship is a platform you can fight from, park, and decorate. Cannons can be mounted and aimed, so other crews and hostile vessels stop being something you simply run from, and the anchor lets you stop in place instead of drifting while you hop off to explore.

Unlock requirement: Reach Maple Village on Maple Island

There is no shortcut here. Mary only exists in Maple Village, and Maple Village sits at the end of the current island route, so the ship is gated behind main quest progress rather than behind money alone. Work through the towns in order and keep the quest tracker on screen so you always know which objective is holding you back.

Anchor Town is where most of the grind starts, including the pushable gate that costs 25G to open and the repeatable Marine Base quests behind it. Once you outgrow that, sail the rowboat to Clown Town and farm its repeatable quests until you are strong enough to make the crossing toward Maple Island from the Clown Town harbor.

How to buy the ship from Mary

Clear the main quest chain until Maple Village is unlocked and you can dock at Maple Island. Until you have physically arrived, no amount of gold does anything for you.
Build up your funds before you shop. The ship is a large purchase compared with early weapons and consumables, so bank the payouts from quests rather than spending them the moment they land.
Find Mary inside Maple Village. She is the ship merchant, and she stands in the village itself rather than out on the shoreline.
Walk up to her and press E to open the shop, then pick the larger ship and confirm the purchase. Your money total drops by the listed price on confirmation.
Head to the water and summon the ship. If it spawns at the dock instead of the old rowboat, the purchase went through and you can start sailing to the outer islands.

Note: if the shop refuses the purchase, the cause is almost always one of two things. Either you are short on money, or you are interacting with a different village NPC and not Mary.

Fastest ways to save up the money

Repeatable quests are the backbone of your income. Anchor Town’s Marine Base loop pays out reliably at low level, and the Clown Town quests from Jonni and the Mayor keep going while you push through the 30–69 stretch. On Maple Island, the wave quests from Gus and the farmer serve the same purpose at 70 and above, which conveniently means you can farm the last of your funds in the same village where Mary is standing.

Life skills fill the gaps between quest turn-ins. Mining ore, fishing off the dock, farming crops, and cooking all level independently, and cooked food doubles as a combat buff so the time is not wasted. World bosses spawn every hour and drop boss chests along with Celestial Coins, which makes the hourly timer worth watching while you grind.

Using the ship: Cannons, anchor, and customization

Once the ship is yours, three systems come with it. Customization lets you change how the vessel looks, the mounted cannons can be manned and aimed at targets on the water, and the anchor stops the ship where it sits. Dropping the anchor is a hold action rather than a tap, so keep E held down until the ship comes to a stop instead of pressing it once and walking away.

The practical payoff is reach. Long crossings that were impractical in the rowboat become routine, which matters for hunting down items on the outer islands and for keeping up with the hourly cursed fruit spawns on trees and plants across the map.

Grand Blue is still in Early Access, and Eternal Pose has been shipping changes to the game regularly, so prices and village layouts can shift between patches. The route itself has stayed consistent, though. Quest your way to Maple Village, keep your gold, and Mary handles the rest.
