Graveyard Keeper 2: How to Get Faith

Faith drives most of your long-term progress in Graveyard Keeper 2. You spend it on research, story milestones, and unlocking Inspirations, but the game deliberately locks the resource away at the start. There is no hidden node or workstation that produces it early on. Instead, Faith comes from running a weekly religious service once the Temple is open to you.

Quick answer: Perform Mass at the Temple once per in-game week on Wrath day. The Temple only unlocks after you finish the boat quests for Jack and the Twins and meet the Nun at the Tavern.

Unlock the Temple before Faith is possible

The path to Faith runs through a short chain of delivery quests around the village. You help Jack build a boat, convince the Twins to row it, and then wait for the Nun to arrive. None of this involves combat, but each delivery depends on a specific piece of the Tech Tree, so unlock those first.

Speak to the merchant in the village if you have not already picked up the quests involving Jack and the twins. He points you toward both characters and starts the sequence.

Bring Jack 5 Wooden Planks and 5 Bronze Details for his boat. He splits the request across two quests, so craft everything ahead of time and hand it over in one trip to save yourself a return journey.

Make 5 Clay Plates for the twins, who stand across the bridge in the south of the village. Dig up Clay near your base, build a Potter’s Wheel, then craft the plates. The recipe yields 3 Clay Plates for every 2 Clay. Delivering them convinces the twins to row the boat.

Once the boat sets sail, carry on with your usual tasks for a few in-game days. Going to sleep eventually triggers a letter from Jack saying he will not return, but the Nun will. Head to the Tavern and talk to her to open the Temple and gain access to sermons.

Perform Mass on Wrath day to earn Faith

With the Temple unlocked, Mass becomes your steady source of Faith. It can only be held once per in-game week, and only on Wrath day. That day is marked on the calendar by a dark red symbol that looks like a vertical male symbol. If you miss it, you wait a full week for the next opportunity.

Approach the pulpit, open the Pray interface, and slot in a Prayer. Your basic Prayer is enough for the first sermon. Start the service and a short cutscene plays as parishioners fill the benches. Preaching also pays out money on top of Faith, so reinvesting in the Temple helps both totals.

You know it worked when the Prayer Report appears at the end of the sermon. It lists the visitor count, Faith received, money received, and any preaching bonuses. Collect the money on the floor, then open the Inspirations menu and confirm your Faith total has gone up.

Increase the Faith you get from each sermon

Because Mass runs only once a week, every sermon is worth preparing for. Four systems raise the Faith you collect, and they stack. Some open up only as you push deeper into the game, so early on focus on the Temple and your Gratitude.

Raise the Temple’s Splendor

Improving the Temple is the most direct boost. Start by cleaning the interior, then build furnishings that impress your flock. Interior Benches are the key early upgrade, and there are six bench spaces. Each bench costs 2 Wooden Planks and 6 Bronze Nails, so filling every slot needs 12 Wooden Planks and 36 Bronze Nails, plus enough stamina to build them all in one visit.

Further upgrades live in the Theology branch of the Tech Tree, including Shrines, Candles, Incense, and broader church improvements. You do not need everything at once, but each addition pushes Temple quality higher.

Keep Gratitude maxed before Wrath day

Gratitude is the golden thumbs-up stat at the top of the screen, and it caps how much your congregation gives you. You start with a maximum of only 10. If your Temple quality is higher than your Gratitude, the game uses the lower number, so a grand Temple is wasted without matching Gratitude. Each sermon also spends your Gratitude, which gives you the following week to rebuild it.

You raise Gratitude by helping the village in these ways:

Bury bodies, then sell the Burial Certificates to the tavern keeper.
Consume Town Gratitude pages handed out as rewards.
Sell food to the merchant.
Sell any item marked with the golden thumbs-up icon in shop menus.
Help characters complete their quests.

Aim to raise your maximum Gratitude over time, not just refill the current bar. A higher ceiling lets more parishioners attend each sermon.

Craft better Prayers

Later on you can craft improved Prayers at Writing Desks. Different Prayers grant different buffs alongside their Faith yield, so some suit certain play styles better than others. A higher-tier Prayer is not automatically better if your Temple cannot perform it reliably, so match the Prayer to your current quality and improve both together.

Unlock the Priest perk through Theology Inspirations

Completing Theology Inspirations unlocks permanent Perks tied to religious progress. One of them, Priest, directly increases the Faith you receive from sermons. Work through these Inspirations as they become available for a lasting boost that applies to every Mass.

Develop all four systems side by side for the best return. Never skip Mass on Wrath day, keep the Temple growing, refill Gratitude during the week, upgrade your Prayers, and push through Theology Inspirations. Since you only get one sermon a week, a well-prepared service is far more valuable than rushing in with a bare Temple and half your Gratitude.
