Gray Zone Warfare’s island of Lamang has always had a dark streak, and Update 0.5: Rogue Ops adds its most unsettling location so far. The Asylum, officially named Lakevale Sanctuary, is a dark, multi-level psychiatric facility. Inside are barred cell blocks, an interrogation room built around an electric chair, and autopsy tables holding the remains of human experiments. It is also a high-difficulty combat zone, with armed guards, keypad-locked doors, and task items locked away in its deepest labs.
Quick answer: The Asylum is Lakevale Sanctuary, one of three new Tier 4 Points of Interest in Update 0.5. Supporter Edition owners have had access since October 19, and everyone else gets it on October 22.
Lakevale Sanctuary and the other Tier 4 locations in Update 0.5
Rogue Ops adds three large Tier 4 Points of Interest to Lamang. All three are built around tougher enemies and new kinds of interaction. The Asylum is the one that leans hardest into horror.
| Point of Interest | Type | Tier |
|---|---|---|
| Lakevale Sanctuary | Asylum | Tier 4 |
| Northern Reach | Military Research Site | Tier 4 |
| RLSL-1 | Radio Observatory | Tier 4 |
The update also scatters more than 15 smaller locations across the island and adds traps and environmental puzzles. The Asylum uses both in a self-contained way. Its doors are locked, its power is off, and the parts worth reaching sit at the far end of both problems.
Gameplay from the preview build, labeled Alpha EA | 0.5.0.0-317067 MFG Preview, has been circulating since the Supporter Preview opened. Rogue Ops is also the release that moves Gray Zone Warfare from pre-alpha to alpha.

Add to Google Preferences →Asylum layout: Cell blocks, wards, and basement tunnels
Most of the facility starts out in near-total darkness. A weapon-mounted flashlight is what makes the first stretch playable. The ground floor is a maze of barred cell corridors, offices with overturned furniture and bloodstains, and laundry areas full of carts and hanging sheets. Those sheets block your line of sight just enough to make every corner a risk.

| Area | What’s inside |
|---|---|
| Cell blocks | Barred corridors, locked cells, guards |
| Offices and laundry | Kickable doors, carts, hanging sheets |
| Interrogation room | Electric chair, chains, tripod camera |
| Medical wards | Gurneys, surgical lights, X-ray viewer |
| Patient cells | Wall slogan “IDLENESS BREEDS CRIME” |
| Basement tunnels | Pipe-lined maintenance corridors |
| Generator room | Machinery, switchboards, chemical barrels |
| Experimentation ward | Body bags, autopsy tables, secure lab |
| Upper hospital wing | Lit ward, privacy curtains, supply carts |

Much of the Asylum’s horror comes from environmental storytelling rather than scripted scares. A sealed interrogation cell can be seen through an observation window. Inside it, an electric chair is wired to a car battery, with blood spattered on the walls, chains hanging from the ceiling, and a tripod camera set up to record whatever happened there.

The medical wards come next. They have tiled rooms with gurneys and surgical lamps, and one has a lit-up X-ray viewer showing a hand. In one patient cell, a body lies curled on the floor beneath the stenciled “IDLENESS BREEDS CRIME.” It is not clear whether the patient is dead or comatose.

Below everything is a damp utility level with pipe-lined tunnels and a generator room. The experimentation ward and its secure lab are behind several locked doors. The autopsy tables there hold disfigured test subjects covered in fleshy growths.
Asylum keypads and the new hacking tool
Several of the Asylum’s security doors use SECUR-MAX keypads marked AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY. They connect to a system that is new in Update 0.5. That system is a hacking tool with three tiers, which can bypass electronic locks and open restricted areas.
In practice, the tool is a PDA-style decoder that connects to the keypad by cable and shows the correct digits one at a time. When the code is complete, the keypad accepts it and the door unlocks. Codes can also be typed in by hand once you know them. The preview build shows three working codes inside the facility.
| Keypad | Code | Method shown |
|---|---|---|
| Basement security door | 5793 | Cracked with decoder |
| Second keypad | 1986 | Cracked with decoder |
| Inner ward door | 1313 | Entered manually |
These codes come from the 0.5.0.0-317067 preview build. The doors they open lead toward the experimentation ward and its lab.
Restoring power with the Asylum breaker box
The darkness can be fixed. A gray, wall-mounted Breaker Box in the lower levels has four interaction options: Open, Close, Turn On, and Turn Off. Choosing Turn On switches on the overhead fluorescent lights throughout that sector. You can tell it worked because the hallways visibly light up.
Power changes how the place plays. Lit corridors make guards easier to spot. Later in the route, the experimentation ward and the upper hospital wing are fully lit rather than covered only by a flashlight cone. Kicking open the inner lab door sets off a security alarm.
Asylum enemies and combat
The Asylum is defended by armed hostiles in tactical gear and camo, as you would expect from a Tier 4 site. They are posted in cell corridors, office doorways, stairwells, and at the basement entrance. Fights happen at close range and around corners. Stairwells are especially dangerous, with guards waiting at the bottom or coming down toward you.

Defeated guards can be looted for their weapons and armor. One named hostile, Sombath Vongphachanh, carries a rifle and body armor. The preview run uses a Mithras Security Systems loadout that fits the space well.
- L85A1 rifle with an optic and a mounted flashlight
5.56x45MM AP (M855A1)ammunition- Suppressed Glock 19C sidearm for the tight cell blocks
- FAST MT helmet and a plate carrier
- A second squadmate, who joins up once the first security door is unlocked
Asylum loot and the Chemical Containment Container
Three pickups appear along the route through the facility. One of them is tied to a task.
| Item | Where it was found | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Fishing Line | Basement table with paperwork | Loot |
| Potassium Iodide | Cabinet in the experimentation ward | Loot |
| Chemical Containment Container | Table in the secure lab | Task item |
The Chemical Containment Container is marked Task Assessment when you pick it up, so it belongs to the new task content in Rogue Ops. It is in the secure lab, which means you have to get past the keypads and the alarmed door first. Rogue Ops also adds new Main Tasks and Long-Term Contracts that send players into the new locations, alongside tasks connected to the Hideout, smuggling, and hunting.
For now, early entry to Lakevale Sanctuary is available through Supporter Preview, included with the Supporter Edition upgrade on Steam. Other players can visit the Asylum when Rogue Ops arrives on October 22. The launch features a soft wipe: lockers and money reset, while rank, vendor levels, and completed tasks are retained, along with unlocked apparel.
