Grow a Garden 2 Pets: Prices, Abilities, and How to Get Them

Pets in Grow a Garden 2 are not decoration. Each one walks around your plot and runs a passive ability the whole time it is equipped, so a single pet can speed up plant growth, defend your fruit from thieves, raise your steal limit, or push the odds of a Gold or Rainbow mutation. Picking the right ones early decides how fast your farm earns.

Quick answer: Most pets spawn as wandering critters in the area between the shopping circle and the gardens. Walk up to one, hold the interact button, and pay its Sheckles price before its timer runs out. The pet then walks to your garden and its ability turns on automatically. The Ice Serpent and Black Dragon are the exception, since they come from Guild rewards rather than map spawns.

Pets are grouped into rarities that set how often they appear: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary, Mythic, and Super. Higher rarity means a rarer spawn and a steeper price, but also a stronger effect. The table below lists every pet currently in the game.

Note: prices and the roster can shift as the game updates. The Mythic and Super tiers cost millions, so plan your Sheckles around what you can realistically protect from rival buyers.

How to get pets from map spawns

Pets show up on their own in the open area between the shopping circle and the player gardens. Each spawn carries a timer above its head. If that timer runs out before anyone buys, the pet disappears, so speed matters when a high rarity appears.

All Grow a Garden 2 Pets Guide
Pets wander the lobby on a timer before they despawn.
Walk up to a pet you want. Left-click it, then hold the interact button to confirm the purchase with Sheckles.
Watch it start walking toward your garden. The ability is not active yet, because the pet still has to reach your plot’s entry point.
Guard the pet on its way home. Another player can pay more Sheckles to redirect it to their garden, and this bidding can repeat until the pet enters someone’s plot. Even after a pet is stolen, you can buy it back, but it costs more than the thief paid.

You know the purchase stuck once the pet reaches your garden and begins roaming and running its ability there. If you keep losing pets, the two common reasons are simple. Either the timer expired before you finished the hold-to-buy, or a richer player outbid you mid-walk. Private servers remove the bidding war entirely.

Map spawns are not the only route. Pets can also hatch from Eggs, and the Ice Serpent and Black Dragon come from Guild rewards tied to clan ranking, so joining and climbing a Guild is the only way to earn those two.

How many pets you can equip and slot costs

You start with 3 pet slots, meaning three abilities running at once. Buying extra slots with Sheckles lets you stack more effects, and identical pets stack too, so multiple Frogs add their jump bonus together.

Expanding slots is worth prioritizing once you have a steady income, since each new slot is another passive bonus working in the background at all times.

Best pets to buy first

Early on you won’t have millions, so the smart play is to grab cheap pets that grow your income or your mobility, then save toward the expensive defenders and mutation boosters.

  • Deer (50K): The cleanest early investment. A 10% faster growth time means more harvests per session, which loops straight back into more Sheckles.
  • Bunny (20K): Cheap walk-speed boost that helps you sell faster, reach other plots, and chase pets before rivals outbid you.
  • Bee (1Mn): The most affordable garden defender. It swarms intruders while you are away, so a valuable plot stays protected.
  • Golden Dragonfly and Unicorn: Mythic-tier profit engines that double your Gold and Rainbow mutation chances. The bigger your farm, the more they pay back.
  • Raccoon (15M): The standout for anyone focused on stealing. It raids unguarded gardens at night on its own and lifts your steal limit by +25.

Build your farm’s income with Deer and movement with Bunny first, then let your priorities decide the endgame. Defenders like Bee, Bear, Ice Serpent, and Black Dragon protect a wealthy plot, while Raccoon, Golden Dragonfly, and Unicorn lean into raiding and high-value harvests. More pets are planned for future updates, so keep banking Sheckles for whatever lands next.
